March Champions League – number 4
Previous winners: 1: el mico, 2: three-way 0-0-0 final draw !!!(Plugster, late mail and odds against), 3: Finbar
Basically we are using the same rules as for February, with a few exceptions.
New things: 2 rounds, the first one goes from 08. march and finishes on the 21.march. Round 2 (top 4 from the first round) compete in the remaining days of the month. The main reason for this is to make it more exciting when Finbar get’s in his 400 points multi early on, it’s not all lost at that point..

This thread is only to be used for competition comments. Any other bets that are not part of the Masters should be put on the normal Betting Thread.
Anyone who wishes to take part in the betting masters '04 must “register” (post on this thread) before the end of 15 of march. It's free to join and the only rule upon joining is that you start your first tip with I'M IN in capitals at the start of it so that I can keep an easy trace of when people started their campaigns.
Rules are as follows
1 Every player has 150 points to bet with in the first round.
2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 15 bets during the first 2 weeks.
3 In the second round the 4 finalists all start on 0 points, but the winner from the first round will get an additional 10 points (1 bet) to the 100 points that can bet used in the second round.
4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the 08 of march (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on 21/3/04. Then the top four posters come together in a mini league from there on and out march month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the 31.march.
5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score on April 1st
6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices. In the case of exchanges, in order to clarify that a price genuinely existed the player must put on some of their real money to create a betting slip that will confirm the price they have submitted for Betting Masters. Most prices will be acceptable but in the case of a very high price, a player may be asked to produce a screen print on the thread to verify the price they
quote.
8 Singles and upwards accepted.
9 For boxed multis and bets such as yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.
10 For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than international cricket/European soccer/tennis.
11 Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.
12. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning that If you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together.

(you could have got the much higher odds of: 8.37 on this combination on centrebet, by the way !!)

Every separate bet made must be 10 pts. No more, no less. You get 150 at the start so 15 bets throughout the comp.

I don't think it would be fair to change your odds at this point. It could cause a "dangerous"/difficult betting format for the entire masters if we’d change the odds on our bets each time we found a better odds, it changes all the time too, making it difficult to keep track off. Just like in real life, we've got to find the best odds before we place our bets..sorry.

Sorry, you had me down for 2 bets but what I meant was that I had the Blake one still to run PLUS the two settled ones. I made a mistake with my points. Coria won so it was 18.33 points there, not 20. Blake beat Dent :hmph: so that lost but Henmania won in straight sets so that's another one home for 18.5 points.

If we do his bets in numerical order, then his last bet (number 15) was Rough draft, that would mean that his ”bet 12” Gulfstream race 8” didn’t count, meaning that his total after 15 bets is 40 points, sorry about that. But I think it is the only fair think to do.
The way things are going in the Masters I doubt that 67 points would have been enough to get through to the next round anyway.
Players must try and keep track of there own bets, because (as this clearly proves) I make mistakes from time to time..

Here's the interesting bit - I'm playing the FTSE nice and safely but I'm off out for an hour in a minute and there's only two hours of trading this week then I need to get through my last six bets and try and get as many safe winners in to hit my projected 160 points. By thetime i get back I reckon most markets will either be at 0 giving no bet, not even at 1.01 OR too volatile to risk (My three nastiest losses when trading properly on FTSE have all come on Friday afternoons!)

Yes, like Finbar just said: only 2 days left of this first round. Bets not made is not counted (=0). The events betted on must finish before midnight (central uk time) on Sunday. Then the top four posters come together in a mini league from there on and out march month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the 31.march.
In the second round the 4 finalists all start on 0 points, but the winner from the first round will get an additional 10 points (1 bet) to the 100 points that can bet used in the second round.
So it really should be a race for first place, not just to make a top four finish.
(The Masters are closed for new contestants now...)

You're exactly right there BUT in my defence, the rules change every competition and I'm simply making the rules for this one work in my favour. What's more, Odds Against did something similar in BMII and got through the group stage.
I will have a wry smile on my face if I don't get through. My big regret is that I didn't do more of these bets as that particular well has dried up as the FTSE stops for the weekend so I need to negotiate my last six bets safely on something else.
The thing is I have lost on FTSE backing 1.04 before, so even these bets aren't secure as you might think! :eek:

This is a slight change from the last Mssters as the bets had to be placed by 2359 on the Sunday BUT contestants could have their bets settled up to 0600the ofllowing morning thus enabling all US sports. It means little or no US sport on Sunday.

Just put on the bet for real and the odds are 6.88 to 1 so return should be 78.8 pts (presume stake isn't included but if it comes in sure it will be checked)
If first goal is scored before player comes on or player doesn't play then that leg of the bet is void (Coral rules which I'm imagine no one has a problem with)

Spot on. Which is why I rarely do it to the level I did it last year. Regularly bet £50 last year to win £6 or £7 and it's nice the way it adds up at the end of the week. However, one nasty £120 loss in two hours one Friday dented two months of £150 slowly built profit. Also had a £50 loss one morning simply because the site I checked wasn't working properly and gave me the wrong info on which to place my bet!!!
Quite fun to resume it for the Masters though. ;)
