I won't be....if the boys play to similar standard as they did against Germany..then I see no reason why they might not actually make it...granted you have a few points re preperation, lack of fitness ,trainer etc...but I do believe that the Boys will giv it everything they have got....and they will....it will be tight qualifier....so am not convinced re your prognosis but time will tell...hope you are wrong with this one...:(

Think there is a strong likelyhood it will be either Columbia or Chile based on remaining games to be played in the group...however having made the above statement..anything can happen in this notoriously unpredictable group........would fancy our chances that little more if it was Chile:p

Short odds but worth a punt.
The League Cup in Ireland has the same status as its UK counterpart but this might be Shels only chance of silverware this season. Coming on the back of a home defaet to Derry at the weekend this is Shelbourne's chance to bounce right back against third from bottom side St Pats.
Due to injury problems they only have a squad of 15 to choose from so Shels are expected to name a near full strength side.
Shels Manager Pat Fenlon said: “I’ve fifteen senior players – including the two keepers - available to me on Monday night, so it doesn’t leave me with too many options Also included there is our new signing Alan Reynolds who probably isn’t a 100% match-fit just yet. Our main problems are at the back, where we’ve had to make enforced changes every week. But Monday night gives us a chance to turn things around"
St Pats are expected to field their strongest team, bolstered by a victory against Finn Harps (2nd from bottom) although the long journey back from Donegal may be a factor late in the game.
Shelbourne also won their League meeting in April 3-1

right, time to climb to 11th on the ladder,

tonight's tennis.

ferrer, top 5 in the world on clay, well, close enough v di mauro, a chump, 1.15, says it all, ferrer should be right up for winning this tournament.

into

soderling to beat mayer, 1.74, soderling not on his preferred surface, but a talent, at home in Sweden, v Mayer, a perennial dud. Soderling with (****) a win over Verdasco at Roland Garros, and wins over good clay courters Robredo and Chela on clay this season, Mayer with no such form. frenetic home crowd also worth plenty.

double pays 2.0.

By the way, Murray is playing against Carraz who is ranked nearly 100 places higher that Murrray although he is bigger odds.

Murray did start at 1.1 but is now 1.4 but you can still get 2.75 on Carrez. People betting with heads has seen Murrays odds coming out and at 2.75 I see no reason not to punt ojn the higher seed. On the other hand, Murray did look good at Wimbledon and if in form will probably blast this other guy out the water.

Not goldmine but I'm gonna have a tenner.

ozeagle

please put in normal betting thread,

this match up is definitely one to avoid. carraz has form on grass.

..and way over the odds, home crowd was worth plenty at Wimbledon.

Got a big time Goldmine bet for Saturday in the USA major league soccer.

CHIVAS USA v REAL SALT LAKE - UNDER 2.5

FIrst of all both teams are utter sh*t. Chivas have only won one game (against Salt Lake!) all season. Salt Lake have not won away all season (played 8, lost 7!). The reason for these dismal records is a serious lack of firepower. Chivas have scored 7 goals in 9 home games, Salt Lake only 2 goals in 8 away games so far.

Odds not yet available, I will post them when they are but I thought that I would give you all advance notice so that you can ensure you get on/ check it out for yourselves.

A big no no on this one. The MLS is the most unpredictable league in the world. Goals just fly in, in one moment.

I remember watching a game last season, it was like paint drying and in the last 1 and a hlaf they socred 3 goals it was stupid.

Stay away mate

You might luck it but i'd stay well off.

Thanks for the warning mate, but I think I will stick with this one. The goals for stats speak for themselves, and the fact that they are so poor in a league where goals fly in left-right-and-centre really does give an indication of the strike power on show. In an unpredictable league it is predictable that this game will produce few goals.

I appreciate your input though.

Hope it works mate, i never like to see people lose money. I just think it's a really dodgy league. If it works it might be a good money earner in the future.

right, time to add 2, yes, 2 more picks to the goldmine.

both tennis, both 1.5

1.) serra to beat vanek. serra pounded vanek a month ago, 4 and 0, has been in great form on clay all season, in fact, for a couple of years now, especially on the challenger circuit, which is effectively what this match up is. vanek with some reasonable wins, but not in the same class as serra, serra 23 and perhaps something to offer, vanek 27, going nowhere.

2.) soderling to beat hernandez. clear class differential here. soderling isn't all that bad on clay, as you'd expect from a player of his talent. hernandez is plain shit. add to that soderling's the last remaining local, and there should be a big crowd presence to kick him on. facile here, expect straight sets and how.

another $1 coming for Oz.

Another Irish gem...

DERRY CITY v FINN HARPS
Blue Square 1.5

The second north-west derby of the season, Derry won the corresponding fixture 2-0 at Finn Park and are currently third in the league.
City defeated second placed Shelbourne last weekend for the second time in a month at Tolka Park and followed that up with a penalty shoot-out defeat of Drogheda United in the League Cup on Tuesday night. Derry rested a number of players in that game, including Peter Hutton and Eamonn Doherty, but both are likely to return to the starting line-up for Friday night’s game. Only right full back Eddie McCallion missing, after the full-back tore his medial ligament at Shelbourne last weekend. Otherwise, they are pretty much at full-strength.

Manager Healy is confident saying. “If we play as I know we can play, we are more than capable of winning this game. If we play like we did two weeks ago against Shamrock Rovers and in several of our games this year, we are more than capable of winning.”

Derry City home form 8-3-3
Finn Harps Away form 1-0-6

Yes I got it wrong.. I wrongly assumed it was a double (was wondering how two 1/2 shots became even money) but gladly losses were kept to a minimum as I backed them both in a double and not two singles.

Derry to beat Finn, 1.5

Late Mail

Back from Goldmine hibernation, and with a solid place bet in the Australian gallops for Saturday.
Eagle Farm Race 6 - 2 Show Biz Kid PLACE
Will no doubt be at least 1.5, im thinking somewhere between 1.8 - 2.0

This is a classy horse in a field of wannabees, although it hasnt had the results to show its as good as it is, bad barriers and bad luck have haunted it its last couple of starts. But it WILL NOT miss a place.
Its got a top barrier tomorrow (5).
Good jockey
Recently won a barrier trial easily when it was made to work hard.
And will beat Ozs' tip which im sure will be put up here in rebuttle, River to the Sea.
Get on, just add 1.8 to the mine now.
Thanks.

Going to add one of my main cashcows this season to the Goldmine this time.

Icelandic Premier League, FH Hafnarfjordur to beat Keflavik, 1.50 with Sportingbet.

FH have gone through the start of the season with style, and 9-0-0 26-5 indicates they are a notch above the rest up there. They've won all home matches with at least 2 goals, and score goals left and right.

Keflavik one of the teams just below FH, but already 12 points adrift after only 9 games. Keflaviks problem is that they concede far too many goals, 19 in 9 matches so far. That is a stat only "outshined" by 9th placed no-hopers IBV. They're in for a insurmountable task away to the freescoring league leaders tonight.

Surprised to see 1.50. Yes, Keflavik is 3rd, but if you look at the quality of both sides, form, stats, whatever, this is a safe home win.

Busy weekend for me, two rugby league goldmine bets for you all.

1.
Warrington -2 to bt Wigan @ 10/11 Victor Chandler

Warrington are the form team in the comp at the moment with the results they are picking up and their 3rd place in the league shows the improvement the team has shown since the early weeks where they struggled. Wigan on the otherhand are still ragged by injuries and have to count on their numerous kids to get them through the season. Big losses for Wigan are Brian Carney & Kris Radlinski who will be replaced by two kids, a big big loss. Forget the home advantage here too for Wigan as Wires strong following will ensure a packed stand behind the sticks and having been to the JJB on many occasions in my supporting life, Im sure there will be more noise from the away end than the quiet Wigan lot. The handicap should be nearer the 8 to 10 mark in my eyes and I can only see a convincing win for the Wire faithfull which will still give us hope for Wigan to get relegated, which is now 100/1 at Willie Hills by the way if you want to invest a little more.

2.
Wakefield +12 to bt Bradford @ 10/11 Sky Bet

Wakefield did the Goldmine a favour by beating the handicap when coming from behind against Salford last month. The performance last week against St Helens was a much improved showing with players looking like they wanted to play for their shirts which hasnt been the case for a long time. Solomona's distribution brought Wakefield back into the game at one point but it was St Helens ability to score from anywhere with the talent they have on show which won them the game. Bradford simply dont have the options that St Helens had and wont be able to score like they did. Bradford were well beaten away to Leeds last week and only a couple of late consolation tries helped put a bit of respectability on the scoreline which they didnt deserve. Previous to that they drew at home to Widnes, beat Huddersfield away and got ravaged by St Helens. Bradford are no longer the force of old and Robbie Pauls injury means new signing Ian Henderson may have to start at half back. The guy is a quality player but may take time to settle down. Considering Wakefield only lost by 12 to St Helens there is no reason why Bradford should be giving the same start than Saints did who are a lot better than the Bulls. Wakefield beat Bradford away early in the season and when points are at a premium as the relegation battle hots up, theres no reason why we cant win on Sunday let alone stay within 12 points.

I expect my league position to have improved by +1.82 come 5:15pm on Sunday and bring me into 3rd place in the league and a challenge at the top two will be next on the cards !!

Well, I got Warrington at 1.85 on Tuesday for the straight so I'm happy with that but can endorse the Goldmine tip - crazy hcap which should be pounded by the lot of you. Tempted by Wakey BUT the only thing stopping me is that I thought Bradders played well at Leeds last week.

Contained them when they could easily have gone under. Had some bad luck with the reffing when they were bearing down on goal only for Leeds to go straight up the other end. Despite my money on Leeds last week losing that particular bet was fair enough as Bradford battled their arsenals off.

Hope you're right Wildcat - you nearly always are when it comes to Wakey.

Same sentiments Grim, think Bradford were better than they were given credit for last week, Saints killed me last weekend so staying away from any large handicaps this weekend, might be that Warrington the only bet at the moment. Looked at all the markets tonight, and not one thing stands out for me on the Saints vs Hull game

1.55 - Centrebet

Back in the goldmine!
On paper it looks like a close game, number 2 in the league against number 3, but there really are some big differences between the two teams.
Haugesund are the biggest and have (on paper at least) the best team in the division and have got 27 points from just 12 games. They’ve got a few players back for this one too.
Flekkerøy, are actually from Kristiansand! So I know a little bit more about them then I normally know about teams..
They are really great at home, they’ve now recorded 18 straight wins out on there small island. But away from home they’ve only won once this season. Doubt that they will beat the best team in league on Sunday.

Theyve picked up results where in all honesty I couldnt see them getting (Warrington) or hoped for a shok (Leigh). Fair play to them though, the kids have stood up and been counted after getting hammered by Leeds and Saints.

Relegation is a two horse race now between us and Widnes, and if we win away at Widnes on Sunday then I think its all but over.

my stonker is WCE to beat Brisbane in the AFL.

they've had their measure for some time now.

at home, with something to prove. i'm still not convinced about Brisbane, carrying too many 1st year players for my liking.

1.6 is goldmine. but i'm out.

Classic. There was one bet that I've been waiting for for months. Can't be arsed putting others on here but this is simply nailed on and the same bet won for me last year.

Phil Taylor to win PDC World Matchplay in three weeks time.

Just checked it out - top price 1.4!!!! :o

Got 2.1 on the same thing last year.

Looks like I'll be studying the draw to get an e/w bet on the winner of the other half of the draw.

It is - I'm the open minded one. The missus is the worried one.

Anyway - keep these comments on the guest house thread.

Finally - this guy in 5 whole nights = £90
Saturday night on Pai Gow £67 in four hours. Pai Gow is also enjoyaable (unlike BJ which melts your brain after 3000 hands!!)

Pai Gow also doesn't come with the risk of getting the window put through by a narrow minded local tw at

Back again, got to get invovled on this even if it isnt Rugby League.

Tiger Woods to win the Open Golf Championship @ 3/1 (Most firms).

Everything in his favour this week with the tournament been played at St Andrews. Big hitting will see him reach some par 4's in 1. Last time they played here, Tiger won by 8 shots. He comes into this tournament in form in the major events with a 1st and 2nd finish in the last two. 3/1 doesnt look the best price in the world, but I doubt anyone would want to lay any higher than that. Get on !!

Guys, my goldmine bet for tonight is for Liverpool vrs TNS.

You can get 1.65 on Liverpool -3 handicap in tonights game at Bet365(haven't looked around for a better price).

No explanaition needed really except this is going to be a battering. If it was the second leg at Anfield with a 3 goal cushion then it wouldn't be goldmine but as its the first leg, Raffa will be taking it seriously i.e. no team full of youth players, first teamers only and also limited subs meaning a good side will play the whole game. TNS will not be scoring and if Liverpool score less than 4 I'll eat my hat.

saul1664
13-07-2005, 12:05 PM
If you can access betfair take the asian handicap -3.0 & -3.5, if Liverpool win by 3 goals you get half your money back, if they cover the handicap the odds are between 1.80 & 1.84 (about 4/5). Agree should cover easily though Benetiz says that he is worried about TNS as they are fitter

Shelbourne 0,-0.5 PremierBet 1.9

An all Irish clash in this Champions League qualifier. I see a close game (hence the Asian handicap option) although I see a good many plus points in favour of Shels.
Shelbourne are well into their season currently second in the Premier league while Glentoran have yet to start their season.
Both sides have some injury problems, however Shelbourne welcome back four players who have been sidelined by injury for much of the past month - Central defender Colin Hawkins and winger Richie Baker returned to the starting line-up for last Friday night’s eircom League win over St Patrick’s Athletic and both are expected to retain their places. Former Irish international midfielder Alan Moore made a substitute appearance in the same game and Dave Rogers, who was one of Shels’ heroes a year ago, scoring one of the goals that helped dump Hajduk Split out of the competition, could also make his return to the side after recovering from a neck injury.
Glentoran midfielder Gavin Melaugh is out with a knee injury while Pat McGibbon and Mark Glendinning will miss the second leg. On the positive side
former Blackburn player McCann (Football Writers' Young Player of the Year for 2001/02 and is a former Northern Ireland U21 international) has been passed fit
Of the two managers, Fenlon (Shelbourne) appears the more positive:
"It won’t be easy but we’ll work hard and look for the win and then hope to finish the job in the return leg.”
"We would love to travel to Dublin with a win but more importantly with Shelbourne not scoring at the Oval. That is our main objective, to keep a clean sheet." Roy Coyle, Glentoran Manager

KANSAS CITY v Salt Lake @1.5 Skybet/Gamebookers

My under bet between the worst two teams in the MLS last week failed due to the total capitulation of Salt Lake. Now it is time to earn that money back with interest by backing against the Salt Lake Scat. No away wins and shocking form for Salt Lake and so I have been looking forward to seeing what price Kansas would be- the fact that it is just within Goldmine range is a bonus! Pile on.

oz, not that it really matters, im up to 1.68

now a bit of a long term one here;
australian big brother
overall winner: Tim @ 2.1 on centrebet

anyone who has watched this series will know that these odds are far too generous. this guy has got the rest of them covered. half of the remaining nutcases in the house are just that, nuttas, they have no chance of winning and the "intruders" do not win.
out of the original crew there is only one true threat, kate, who from all accounts is not too well liked by the main voting public, young girls.
timmy has got all bases covered, he never causes too much grief and the only person who has been nominating him will more than likely be leaving this week.

Not sure if I'm giving everybody enough notice for this one but it has been one of those weeks at work.
Second placed Dublin play second from bottom Athlone.
Athlonewho are also currently managerless (applications to AthloneTownfc.com please) after Stephen Kelly stepped down as manager after the midlanders’ disappointing series of results culminated in a home defeat at the hands of bottom club Kilkenny City last weekend.
The Vikings should win this one keeping up pressure on first placed Sligo.

Two big long term bets. (If I cannot do two, one will have to count as short term)

Ashes Match-ups:

MCGRATH +0.5 wickets v Warne @1.88 (betfair)

McGrath will consistently take wickets with the new ball, where as Warne I feel may struggle except for maybe at Old Trafford. McGrath loves Lords and will get at hatful in the first test starting on Thursday.

PONTING -25.5 runs v Vaughan @1.71 (betfair)

Ponting is coming into form just at the right time, and his record against England speaks for itself. Vaughan is not the same player he was when he scored a load in the last ashes series. He is struggling for form and does not know how to play- whether to go for his shots or to dig in and occupy the crease. I can see 3 centuries minimum from Ponting, whereas I would not be surprised if Vaughan does not average more than 30 this series.

srs9jps
17-07-2005, 11:49 PM
AUSTRALIA to win 1st test @2.0 (most places, e.g. skybet)

England's record at Lords v Australia is dire, they just do not win there. Both sides will come out all guns blazing in this test, which combined with the good weather should ensure that there is not a draw. McGrath loves Lords and if England get put in I wouldnt be surprised to see England get skittled. Make the most of this price, you will not get anything near these odds for Australia to win in the rest of the tests.

Ponting is a great player but this is definitely not goldmine for me. "Speaks for itself"? You haven't checked it you mean! His test record against England is worse than against any of the other 'proper' test nations. I think he averages about 40.
"Coming into form"? He has had one good one day knock.

Whatever you say about Vaughan and the pressures of captaincy, he is still a top batsman. Ponting may or may not be good enough to afford to give him a 25.5 run start tests, but this is definitely not goldmine IMO.

Time to collect again tonight.

Wakefield +8 @ 10/11 to beat Wigan (Most Firms)

We are bang in form at the moment as the last three games since Tony Smith has taken over shows. Wins at home to Bradford and away to Widnes (where we took the p!ss basically out of them) and a loss by just 8 to St Helens shows we are back to somewhere near last seasons results. The team are attacking with options all over the park and the weak link which was the defensive line has improved beyond belief showimg last week when Widnes had 8 sets of 6 in out 20 in a space of about 10 minutes and couldnt get past us. Ok Widnes arnt the best team in the world but it takes a bloody good effort to stop any team from scoring 20 yards out on 8 occasions in such a short space of time.

Solomona is simply supreme and is well worth watching tonight alone for his passing. Watch for the set move near the line where Jeffries will pass a short ball to Solomona who will run at the line and then pass the ball behind him, whilst looking forward, back to Jeffries who cuts accross the back and goes for the gap in the line. The forwards are beginning to make yards and are wanting to play for the shirt and Smith has put in the mentality of if you dont play well then your out and I'll bring in someone who does. Competition for places is now a big factor at Wakey.

Wigan, Ive always wanted to take on as they are a young team and ok I got them wrong on the relegation front but a win at Leigh isnt exactly the biggest result in the world and Warrington were simply dire when they played Wigan. They were then brought back down to earth by Saints last week and a couple of late tries out some respectability on the scoreline, nothing more than that though, Wigan were outclassed. We WILL score points against them as their defensive record is shocking and even though Radlinski is back for Wigan, I just cant see why man for man they are 8 points better than us.

Throw the following into the equation too. Solomona signed for three more years, announced last week, fans flood to Widnes and we win easily. This week, Wakey announce Tadulala signed for 2 more years, he has been our most consistent player this year so more good news) fans will flood again and the team will want to put on a good show for us. And finally, Jason Demetriou, Wakeys captain, its his 100th Super League game tonight and he wont want to lose it, thats for sure.

8 start is too much, we wont be outclassed tonight at all and we may well even win the game.

P.S. Check my website later for a 25/1 first try scorer which has been overpriced big time in my eyes.. he should be 14/1 at the very most in my eyes and is worth a few quid.

Cork win 1.5
Just within Goldmine limits.
Cork are top of the league in good form including a good away win in Europe, only lost once at home (to Drogheda in April). Rovers bottom of the league although this is in part due to an 8 point deduction by FAI. This will not be a push-over for Cork although Rovers have suspensions and financial problems meaning they have had to cut their playing staff in recent weeks (Paul Caffrey, Brian McGovern, Cathal O’Connor and Keith O’Halloran among those either already departed or set to leave the club). Most Rovers fans have written off this game and are focused on their upcoming games with fellow strugglers Waterford, Bray and Pats.

Team news:
Cork's Mark McNulty could return in place of Phil Harrington in goal after coming through an under-21 match unscathed earlier this week. Roy O’Donovan is banned after his red card in Drogheda last week.

Shamrock Rovers have suspensions for their Captain Trevor Molloy and Will McDonagh, while central defensive pairing Jason Gavin and Jason McGuinness are both doubtful. Former Bohemians and Longford Town defender Brian Shelley could make his debut after joining from Carlisle United.

Previous meeting:

Shamrock Rovers 1-3 Cork City _

England's record at Lords v Australia is dire, they just do not win there. Both sides will come out all guns blazing in this test, which combined with the good weather should ensure that there is not a draw. McGrath loves Lords and if England get put in I wouldnt be surprised to see England get skittled. Make the most of this price, you will not get anything near these odds for Australia to win in the rest of the tests.

Gutted that we lost, but to be fair was a solid bet. :p

Galway United win 2.25

A lower table clash between 7th placed Galway and 8th placed Monaghan United. Both teams have 20 points, however Monaghan have serious injury and suspension problems.
Monaghan United go into Tuesday night's clash with Galway United hoping to end a mid-season slump that has seen Mick Cooke's men lose their last 3 League Games. Key man, Striker David Lee, is likely to be absent for the remainder of the season with a broken ankle, while defender Thomas Heffernan is also unlikely to play again this season due to illness. Top scorer, forward Philip Hughes misses his first game this season due to suspension, while midfielder Barry Burke's return to the team is delayed by suspension following his sending-off from the bench in Kilkenny.
With Marc Kenny departed for Shamrock Rovers, new signing Derek Griffin is likely to play alongside Jimmy Fullam in midfield. Ger O'Callaghan should return from the ankle injury that kept him out of the game against Dundalk, and Ashley White is likely to continue in his emergency striker's role alongside Ciaran Quinn.
Galway travel to Century Homes Park on Tuesday to take on Monaghan United in the final series of games this season - the previous meeting saw a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw. United must plan without David O'Dowd who has an ankle knock while Nigel Keady has a bruised instep but is expected to be passed fit. Derek O'Brien, Billy Clery and Colin Fortune all return from suspension.
Galway have won 3 out of their last 4 matches (2 away) but were beaten by Coventry City 1-0 in a pre-season friendly.

Well it happen eventually....

Monaghan 2 - Galway 0

From what i can gather it was a new signing (lithuanian winger Mardasis) who did the damage with both goals. :(
Must admit though, there is no mention of him - not even on Monaghan fc's official website.

si1965
26-07-2005, 11:55 PM
Looking around the match reports to see what went wrong with my tip and it appears that Monaghan have indeed found a match winner although most of their fans don't even know his name - this is from the Mons message board:
Ronaldo wrote: Our new foreign winger looks good.
I made that comment too when I saw him!
Yeah I think he is Lithuanian. Not sure of his name. He just arrived at my gate last night (friendly match with Celtic selection) with his bag and told me he was playing and with the thousands of people (ha) coming through the gate hadnt time to ask him more.

To be honest, at this level of football one skillful player does have the ability to win a game - which is why injuries and suspensions of key players are often crucial.
It appears that Galway did have a backheel from 6 inches out cleared off the line (according to one of the posters) and as Mons only got their second 2 minutes from time this may have made more of a difference to the final result.

Sorry for the late notice on this but not had much time. Risking a red card here.

Centrebet
WATERFORD v DERRY CITY
Derry win 2.00

Form tells thed story here - Waterford in freefall with one win 12 games ago, they have no money and have lost key players over the past few weeks including the club captain. They have also lost two managers in the last month and tonight will be the new incumbent's first match in charge. Derry on the other hand are flying high and are unbeated in 11 games and are keen to keep up the pressure on leaders Cork while their attention is focused on Europe. The only downside for Derry is the journey to Waterford - just about as far as you can travel (only Cork would be a longer trip for them).

Long term bet

Crystal Palace to win coca-cola championship @ 13/2 (bet direct, sporting odds)

It's common sense that you shouldn't actually bet on your own team as the heart often rules the head, but in this case, there is no reason to bet against Palace as the winners of this league which they should do quite comfortably.

Easily have the highest quality squad and cover in all areas, from defence through to attack the quality and quantity is there for all to see. Players that struggled in midfield last season like watson, soares will have much more freedom and space this time around and can develop as good players.

The big question mark is AJ staying or not, if he does (and it looks likely, a return of 30+ goals isn't out of the question). Add to that Macken, Torghelle, Freedman and possibly one more and you should get 50+ goals from the strike force alone.

New signings seemed to have gelled in well, Ward and Hall look great in defence, McAnuff seems an able replacement for Routledge, we have more money to spend, a creative midfielder coming in of sufficient quality would absolutely kill this division off I feel.

Of the challengers, Southampton have lost their entire front line, don't have much of the crouch money to spend, and clive woodward has come in and disrupted things and is rumoured to want to have a hand in team affairs (a disaster waiting to happen). Norwich and Wolves look strong and Leeds have a bit of money behind them, the rest are eminently beatable.

If we had stayed up, and were playing the likes of Wolves, Leeds et al, we would expect to beat them most times playing them, so with virtually the same squad minus a few loan signings and out of contract players, there is no reason to feel afraid, a sparkling start in the first three games, where we face two of our rivals away could mean we are clear favourites after only a week, and the opportunity to lay the bet off for a clear profit will surely rear it's head within the first two months or so.

Also worth a small interest is AJ at 8/1 with the Tote for top scorer, he may go if we struggle and are mid table by xmas, however, if he is banging in the goals on a regular basis and we are top at xmas, it is very unlikely he will leave (be allowed to leave) and can't see anyone else outscoring him, especially with penalties.

To me this could be one of the best bets of all time.

Kilkenny City v Galway United
Kilkenny win
2.1

United play Kilkenny City tonight (a Bank Holiday in Ireland). Kilkenny are on a massive run at the moment winning their last five matches (including defeats for the top two sides in the Division - Dublin and Sligo). On their last outing they thrashed Dundalk 5-0. Galway also won on Friday but this was against bottom club Athlone and followed defeats to Cobh and Monaghan.
Cannot find any team news regarding Kilkenny but for Galway Ronan Frawley (defender) and David O'Dowd (forward) are doubts with ankle problems. This may be the last of Kilkenny's run as two of their young players, Ray Lally and Shane Guthrie, are Turkey bound with the world student games side (11th Aug).

Apologies for the last post, Kilkenny went down 2-0 in the end. On reflection, apart from their recent run there was nothing else to indicate a win so perhaps it should not have been a Goldmine tip - will be more disciplined in future.

Dublin City v Kildare County
Dublin City Win 1.55

The Vikings defeated top-of-the-table Sligo City 3-1 to reignite the their title charge and Sligo's subsequent loss last night has reduced their lead to two points. The upset loss to Kilkenny has been the only game in the last five that Dublin City haven't won. A victory tonight will see them go top of the League.

Kildare accounted for Cobh Ramblers in Saturday's clash at Station Road. This was a welcome respite after a series which saw County get only 1 point from four games.

Dermot Keely return to the home dugout after his suspension, definitely out is full-back Derek Pender. Back in the frame for the visit of John Ryan's side is midfielder Paul Shiels who returns after suspension while central defender Alan Keely should be available after recovering from an ankle injury, new signing Aidan Lynch is also available.

Said City's chief executive Ronan Seery: "We've been playing good football and are in with a great chance of promotion. We've seen more and more fans beginning to turn up for our games and that's a welcome trend.

"The players respond to a good atmosphere and hopefully we can start to spread the word that we are playing a nice attacking brand of football and we are deserving of support of the Dublin footballing public."

Dublin 0 - 0 - Kildare :sob:
Seemingly Dublin had the lions share of the match and had a couple of good opportunities to score but failed to do so. Kildare were described as 'solid' which I guess is another way of saying 11 men behind the ball.
See you in a month after my ban expires...

Going against my own team in the goldmine here.
Viking a very strong home side (5-2-1 this season), Start also normally struggle in these games (4-1, 4-0 and 3-0 in the last 3 games against each other here!).
Start missing there best central defender Borgersen, but the big news today is that there other regular central defender (Håland) is also likely to be out because of an injury.
Think this will just prove too much for our small squad..also have a couple of other injuries.. :(

What price now on Cas after they got beat yesterday ?

They have to go to Whitehaven away (Currently top of the league) on Sunday and win otherwise it could be all over as there is only 4 games left to play.

Aiming to climb into second tonight as I fancy a football bet in the lower leagues.

Boston United to bt Shrewsbury Town @ 8/11 Stan James

Both teams started the season badly on Saturday with losses, however Boston lost to one of the favourites to win League Two away at Wrexham which cant really be knocked. Back at home tonight where they won 11 times last season they should have too much for Shrews who only won twice on the road last season and have done nothing serious in the transfer market to improve on their squad. Boston have Jason Lee back for this game and his aerial ability will cause problems for Shrewsbury. With Lee, Julian Joachim and Noel Whelan spearheading the Boston attack (who can all do a good enough job at this level), Boston will have too much for Shrewsbury tonight.

It is great to hear of a club in crisis, when it is at nonleague level even better (remember Redbridge last season?). Carshalton have not played many friendlies because they have not had a secretary to organise them, and the ones that they have played they have been so bad in that their fans have begun taking bets on how many goals they will let in!!

Really think this is a good one, and at a great price.
Tri Nations Rugby
NZ to do away with OZ at 1.63 on Sportstab.
Australia has been going almost as well as my punting lately, so lets just say woefully. They looked terrible in SA and were lucky to finish as close as they did to the Boks. Theyve been riddled with injuries to some of their big players (Larkham, Latham and Sailor) and have replaced them with debutantes not really deserving a shot at the big time. Although they always step up at home, i think they will cop a pounding from the much flashier All Blacks.
The All Blacks look set to keep Umaga and although Kelleher is out Weepu is a solid replacement. They just look so much better with the ball in hand than the Wallabies, and they were unlucky not to beat SA as they looked much the better side. Also coming off some poundings of the Lions where they were mighty impressive, the All Blacks will be bang on to dish up a can of whoop ass on the Wallabies.
Think the score will be about 35 - 15.
I'll be on anyway.

Time to risk a Red Card here, but its back to the Rugby League for me.

Huddersfield to bt Warrington @ 11/10 Blue Sq, Corals, Lads, Sky Bet, Tote

At first I was tempted by Wakey today with 20 start away to Saints, but the Huddersfield bet looks better value. Having witnessed at first hand last week the way Huddersfield dismantled Wakefield in impressive fashion, I have to think they can beat Warrington who are struggling for form at the moment and the game is at Huddersfield too. Warrington are missing Lee Briers who is the main focus point for their attacking play and they were put to the sword last week by St Helens who were on a downer after missing out a CC final place. Huddersfield, full strength with Paul Reilly back in the team after a 3 game ban. I have this game handicapped as Huddersfield -4, so to get odds against on them off scratch seems the perfect play to me.

Back to the Union again this weekend.

Take NZ -9.5 to do away with the Boks @ 1.9 on Centrebet

NZ are by far the best team in the Tri-Nations and although theyve gotten away to a couple of sluggish starts so far their attacking ability is just so much better. They throw the ball around and actually create chances, unlike AUS and SA. In SA they looked unlucky not to win as they had the better possession and chances, but as always the SA home groud hoodoo got them. SA have looked pretty average and it surprises me they are yet to lose, NZ have got the quick covering players AUS dont have to stop their flying wingers should they get a quick turnover. Main thing is though, its in NZ and they want to get back on top of the ladder. Once again, think the score will be 35-15ish. Dump!

best coupling it with Palace who will make a mess of Stoke, and Chelsea, who have far too much for Tottenham, who couldn't even get one shot on target last night, nor a corner v lowly Blackburn.

see you next week,

Man City to bt Portsmouth @ 4/6 Hills & Skybet

Portsmouth are simply dire and have no chance whatsoever of takign anything from the COM Stadium. City beat Sunderland away midweek and Portsmouth are no better than Sunderland. 4/6 isnt the best price in the world, but for a banker bet, you cant go much better than this on the coupons this week.

Good man. I've had loads of winners recently (another 3 in the yankee on Friday to collect £106) but I tend not to put the longer-priced ones up in the Masters. I really must change that policy - though my hot streak must come to an end soon.

Right I had no intetrest in ever posting a tip in this thread but I;m going to suggest this altthough no doubt ozplank will forget my hospitality of last week and find some excuse to ban it.

Let's see.

Federer over Santoro 1.01 BUT 1.51 with this deal from sportingbet.com

Specifically with sportingbet.com but the 1.51 is the legitimate price you get thanks to this weekend's offer.

Stake £20 or more on ANY sports market this weekend and get 50% of your stake back.

Therefore bet £100 on Federer and 1.01 and get back £101 and then £50 back within 72 hours making this the best 1.51 shot you'll ever get.

sportingbet.com are the biggets bookie in the world so no fears about not getting paid out. They gave me a free £100 on Liverpool to beat AC Milan and I collected £237 without risking a penny of my own dough. Funnily enough I'm quite keen on this company since then!!

For those who like to give yourself maximum cover you can even take Santoro at 80 on Betfair for £2 which I've just done. Given that I'm jinxed in Goldmine, Fed will no doubt twist his ankle when 6-1 6-1 up but in that case I'll better off as I'll still get my £50 back and make £158 on the Santoro win ;)

Right, looking back I didn't realise the Fed game wasn't far off starting so I guess ozclown would have pounced on the time rule. The above bet DID win (surprise, surprise!) and yours truly made his 1.51 with a minimum of fuss.

Right, same deal and absolutely no excuse for anyone to find fault with this. It's a 1.51 bet once again when doing the sportingbet.com deal. It's guaranteed so exactly what the Goldmine is all about.

France over Faroe Islands 1.01 becomes ****1.51******

France will win and, just to compund this, are at home as well.

Just take the deal (you've got all day to do it) and turn £100 into £151. In fact as the odds are 1/80 I guess that means you collect £151.20!! :D

Buy yourself a few beers and raise a glass to Uncle Grim (who in turn will be spending his £51 on drowning his sorrows after HUll's mauling last night :sob: :o )

My first go at this in a while.

Italy to beat Scotland are 1.57 with Lads. They should batter the jocks to be honest and I reckon it is well over priced. Scots have got a bit more confidence under Smith but they haven't got anymore quality.

Should be a banker away win.

1.01 shot? No squire, it was a 1.51 shot.

I hear exactly what you're syaing but jeez, you on;y haave to look at my record in this Goldmine to see I'm jinxed.

World record holder in marathon. Lost one marathon race ever. Guess which race I put in the Goldmine.

World record test batsman decides to go AW when he's the Goldmine.

Vainikolo fails to score against Hull at 10/11 in march yet sets a Super League and scores SIX when the fixture is played again last night.

Yes, it was a super chicken thing to do but the thought of Federer getting injured and me losing big when I could cover it for £2 was too large to ignore.

What would you do - go for £51 and risk £50 at the same time or go for £49 or win £110??????

£300 up for the week makes this one of my best ever weeks. Even took £11 for five minutes work on a Blue Square promotion last night.

In fact, Hull last night is my only loss for two weeks.

b) I replaced it with France

c) France won

d) Monkoid amongst others followed in and collected at 1.51

e) In any language it's a 1.51 winner

f) oz goes to a new low even by his standards and bans a bet which makes people money

This a Goldmine.

What I did was probably the safest bet in this entie thread and kept to the Goldmine principles of producing winners and money.

People followed it in and won.

I knew you'd ban it but what makes me laugh is that you waited until after the France game just in case it lost and then you'd have been shooting your load all over NSW before subtracting a point from the score

not at all, i never knew about the france bit until you just told me, that's why i mentioned federer,
the second i sighted it it was clear that this was just another (vain) attempt by you to flaunt the rules which everyone else adheres to.
the price was 1.01, you added 50 quid to it by having 100 on it.
you show me where the price was 1.51, and i'll put it in.
you're rooted to the bottom of the saltmine. add another -1 this weekend.
i'll drink (my duty free Absolut) to that.

It IS funny but oz's continual banning when it suits is a bit strange. Granted I'd still be on a minus but why ban winners?

As for the France thing it was 1.51 whatever. You got 50% of your stake back so if you did £20 you got a tenner back thus it was a 1.51 then as well.

The maximum bet was £100 so given the situation I advised people to hit it for the max.

ozeagle

you collected an extra 50 quid, thanks to your (clever) 100 investment, the price, du dreck sau, was 1.01, NOT 1.51.

Yeah, maybe, it did seem too good to be true. Though I'm pretty sure I got the same impression from the offer page that Grim did.

I didn't, though I'm not familiar with these offers - do they take a while to pay out?

Fair point on the maths though JCM. What a shame oz couldn't have thought of that one for himself.

Oh well, I can live in the forlorn hope that Whitehaven will balls up against Rochdale next week.

Right, sticking this in because it's guaranteed although not to go in the chart.

IT's an arb and it's long term but as it's investment material with a guaranteed payout I thought I'd stick it in.

Dallas to win more than 8.5 games 2.1 with Ladbrokes
Dallas to win less than 8.5 games 2.12 with Pinnacle

Simple maths here - stick level stakes (as much as you can spare) on each and you walk away in late December/early Jan with a 5% increase on your stake. Personally I just loaded £400 of Baby R's money on it!!!! Just adds £20 or £24 to her kitty, which is a darn sight more than it would get sitting in Barclays earning about £5 in that time!!!

Banks typically pay 5% in a year - this pays it in just under four months.

Apologies if this isn't suitable but at 15% p.a. this pays BETTER than a real Goldmine!!!

OK lads, after a bit of a break here's a lock to boost our account balances this weekend:

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA -16.5 Points v The Sharks (NRL)

Just about as close to a certainty as one would ever see. The rampaging Dragons are right on track to win their 1st title in over a 1/4 of a century. Best list in the comp, internationals all over the park, in form, at home and totally focussed on winning th comp, the Dragons will go through the Sharks like a dose of salts.

Seriously, the Sharks are only in the finals to make up the numbers and coming off a loss to Souths last week after leading 12-0 last week and with a couple of their stars out injured or suspended, they'll just be cannon fodder for the side who will probably win the comp.

Pile it on lads. :p

I said it's not for the chart bur rather than it get swallowed up in the Betting Thread I put it here simply as a 15%p.a. investment.

On a practical level, stick the money on now, forget about it and then when you're poor in the New Year following Xmas etc. you get a fat sum +5% back for four months work.

Simply a no risk bank interest type of investment. That's why I haven't tied up my own money but just lumped Baby R's bank account on it.

Ok, time to go top of the league tonight. Short notice I know, but its within the two hour rule, so it should be ok.

London Broncos to bt Salford City Reds Scr @ 4/5 Bet Direct

Simple fact is, London have to win to keep their top 6 hopes alive, Salford couldnt give a toss as they are stuck in the middle, just like Wakey. London come off a tense but very creditable win against Huddersfield and will be looking to continue the roll here tonight. Mark Mclinden is out which is a loss but London still have Luke Dorn and Paul Sykes ready to roll in and new signing Karl Temata from the NZ Warriors goes straight into the 18. They have to win today against a Salford team who really have nothing to play for. London by 8 according to my ratings so the SCR has to be taken.

Top of the league here I come !!
