hey all, I tried to find an RSS feed for this site (well two, one for news, one for new forum posts), but could only find info in the archive on attempts to get RSS running.
However, it doesn't work with pluck (http://www.pluck.com - highly recommended for any fledgling RSS fiends! ;-) so any guidance would be good.
I'm thinking that RSS is looking good for a great way of digesting headlines/posts etc, and will become more popular. Indeed, it also cuts down on 'wasted' bandwidth costs for those who only want the headlines and not the gfx, much like the old gopher/archie days. I know of a few old CIX b*stards who still complain about html mail wasting bandwidth (!?).
Any mods/admins here who are reading this could do well to publicise this more, maybe?
Hit me with you red-hot flames! :-)

I would also point out that RSS doesn't detract from visitors to the site as any interesting threads/news items that were clicked on would still bring a link to your page, so if anything, visitors would be increased?
Who knows .. any chance of a banner? hehe.. only joking :-)
ta,
Adrian

A*se... RSS is quite cool... it's a thing where you can group all your popular news feeds and stuff together with one application (aggregator)... Hold on .. I'm not making things any better am I?
Bum ... Can anyone else help me here? I'm floundering ...

RSS has been shot in the ass a little by Atom, and Google's decision to use Atom over RSS:

Also, most people aren't using browsers with RSS readers integrated into them yet, although that may change.
Not really got time to go into any depth about this now, I'm off to bed...

Ah, oki, don't know about atom, just came across RSS related stuff recently and seen the benefits, although i don't doubt there will be better, see below

Think that Pluck is written with .NET or something, there's a lot of browser based controls, which would suggest that it's still in it's infancy as this technology is not so widely adopted in my humble and minimal experience. However, as .NET gets adopted further, the way we browse the web on Windows machines will undoubtedly change. Micro$oft are both followers and leaders to varying degrees and .NET does look tasty enough for most casual users at the very least.
It's not an absolute necessity of course - rather an added gloss for those who might be interested? Might not that *that* long to set-up, but would still need a little set-up.
At the end of the day, I was looking for a CPFC RSS feed and couldn't find one. Why should CPFC.org not be the first? :-)

Lo,
Any one had a chance to look into this as yet?
Have a look at the SI forum for how they've done it ..
