View Full Version : Chelsea to halve their squad

Mourinho's first announcement is that he wants a squad of no more than 21 players plus goalkeepers. He's currently got 33 plus 8 out on loan.

Anyone that could be useful to us? I'd start with Mikael Forssell. OK he's out on loan but presumably an offer of a full time move would override that. He knows Palace well, the fans have a lot of time for him and he's really started coming into his own as a Premiership striker. The price could be a problem as he scored more Prem goals than anyone in Chelsea's squad last year.

i like the idea of signing mikael again, although i can see the price being a stumbling block, i think itll be a case of keeping the players out on loan and getting rid of the players they didnt really play this season. but, we can dream of having mikael back.

Surely he'd be more liekly to sign for B'ham, should Chelsea decide to offload him permanently.

I'm sure Mourinho's right, though. A squad of 40+ players, including those out on loan seems ridiculous. Except for young players that are still learning and have room to improve, what's the point of keeping hold of the others, as they are never going to get near the first team?

If Forsell doesn't get in the Chelsea side now, after being top scorer in a poorer team, then he never will.

Offloaded will most liekyl be: Hasawank, Veron, Geremi, J Cole, C Cole, Forsell, Nicolis (sp), Stanic, Petit, among other fringe players. None any good to us - either too good/expensive to join us, or some will end up at Bolton.

I thought that forsell had allready agreed to stay at birmingham for another year?

Probably find that Chelsea will offload more than quoted as they will evidently buy a number of players during the summer.

It appears I'm wrong from the previous posts, but I was under the impression that Forssell had actually been bought by Birmingham and therefore no longer had any connection with Chelsea?

Forssell has agreed a year one loan extension at Brum I believe BUT has said he absolutely does NOT want to sign there on a permanant deal. He was obviously waiting for Palace to get promoted :D

Personally, and I accept that we can't afford him, he probably wouldn't want to come, and a lot of people think he's crap, but personally, i'd love it if we signed Hasselbaink.

He doesn't start very often for them though does he? C Cole that is.

I was at Fulham Vs Charlton the other week with a mate of mine who also supports them and he said the same thing. Judging by the performance i would agree too

Hasselbaink could do a job if they loan him to us and pay his wages.

They're going to take a stonking loss on any they can sell, loan the rest of them out and pay 90% of their wages for a couple of years until their contracts run out (cf. Real Madrid with Morientes and many others).

What about Neil Sullivan? Has he still got it? I dont think he'd be hugely expensive.

I reckon Mutu will stay.. seems to me he's Mourinho's kind of striker..

Veron has gone on a season year loan to Inter.
