Worthing Eagle told me the file is at www.freedrive.com (http://www.freedrive.com)
username: niksherman

look for the folder called "CM update in here"
Worthing - hope its okay to post this.. if not let me know and I'll delete it.
----------------------------
I downloaded this and was really enjoying it.. very accurate for the most part and it doesnt have all the usual boring stuff like half the Swedish U21s joining Man Utd for 9million. BUT I did start getting error messages and after about 7 months, the game reached a point where it would just close to the desktop every time I tried to play.
I dont know if this is a fault in the database or in my game. I did start playing a new game without the update but it was painful because of all the errors they made regarding Crystal Palace which were corrected in Worthing's version.
I've still got CM2 somewhere. Zohar is brilliant in it! Don't like CM3 though.

I hated 99/00. Next to impossible to do anything with 18 million in debt.. some ridiculous wages. Players completely mis-defined. I know it was admin-time but still it was frustrating to play that.

Yep. I'm the best damn CM player in the west! South Even. CM 00-01 is more fun than 99-00. And the're both so much better than CM 2. I didn't like the idea of them changing the way it was done at first but once I got used to the game it was so much better 2can.

90-100 - Div 2
100-110 - Div 1

00/01 - Relegated!!! - Luckily chairman Peter Morley has shown faith in me , but I have to earn promotion or else the sack surely beckons.
Anyway I've started the 01/02 season with a 3-2 win over Stoke and have signed Ashley Cole on loan as well as Ritchie Partridge from Liverpool , who has impressed in pre-season .
Martin Rowlands (AMC from Brentford) is a class act and Chris Summers (Forward from Merthyl Tydfil) looks like he can get 20+ at div 2 level.
But then again it could all go pear shaped - so would welcome any advice / tips on how I can get the lads back to their rightful place and for me to avoid ending up at Wrexham again as in 99/00!

I started with a season of Rangers and won all three domestic competitons plus the Champions League. Too easy.
Once I used Palace it was much tougher:
00/1 Div 1 champs, League Cup winners
01/2 Prem champs, FA and UEFA Cup winners
02/3 Prem champs, Champions League winners
03/4 Still playing but I am in the finals of the FA Cup and Champions League and am 3 points clear in the Prem with 2 games to play, but the only team that can reach me has only a single game left.
The secret is to buy lots of Scandanavians. Cheap and talented.

Best tip: ignore 99% of tips, they just wont pan out. Players vary widely from game to game because of a random element. But keep an eye on the more popular ones and snap them up should they hint at greatness.
Paul Dillon (Rotherham) David Collins (Burnley) Carl Laurie (Crewe) and Dean Keates (Walsall) are four of my favourites.

Can someone kindly give me some help. I only got the game recently, and haven't got a clue what I'm doing, even after reading the instruction book from cover to cover.
Like when I started, it asked me if I wanted background leagues, and to choose them. What did that mean, and what should I choose and why?
I'm Palace, and I haven't got as far as the start of the season, but I've played a few friendlies it has arranged. So far:
1. I haven't scored a goal in any of the games. In fact, I rarely manage a shot.
2. Half my squad are already very tired - even some who haven't even played http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
3. Those that aren't tired, seem to have very low morale already.

I bought him, he's quality
I'm playing as Rushden and Diamonds, and have won consecutive promotions from the conference to Division One.
I'm now two points off a automatic promotion place to the Prem
Great strikers to buy are Andri Sigporsson, Neil Midgley, Jay Boothroyd, Gudni Runar Helgason, and Illias Saglamoglu.
I play 3-5-2 attacking all the time, with a good attacking midfielder infront of a midfielder and defensive midfielder. I've got my passing set on 'mixed' passing. No long ball for me.
Go for midfielders with high passing ratings, and strikers with pace, aggression and, most important, FINISHING (try and get ones with finishing 20)
I also go for players with high ratings for teamwork, dribbling and determiniation

Don't give up yet Ian, the players get tired after playing the friendlies as a matter of course. They don't reach 100 percent fitness until the first competitive match, unless you've gone and selected more intensive training scheme for them in which case they will always be tired.
I manage Conference clubs and I've never I have only ever won one friendly. The Nuneaton Borough side I managed even lost 3-2 to the Metropolitan Police! (Oh dear) but still get off to a good start when the league season starts, unfortunately I had deleted that game and have to start again. The computer controlled Palace don't win any friendlies either and usually have a really bad start to the season.

Background leagues mean that you have fully operational leagues running. So if you turn Argentina on background, you get a full range of players, divisions and clubs from Argentina. This gives you more choice, you can even move to Argentina and manage a Argentina club. But it also slows your computer down as there are many more games to process. If you dont select it as Background, then 90% of the players and clubs go and you only have the bigger clubs and players available and cannot go to Argentina.
My standard is to have Scotland as Background and include the Conference too, as for me thats the most realistic set up while keeping processing time down. If your computer is very slow I wouldnt have any background at all.
Oh and Palace strikers are almost always crap :-x
What year are you in? / What version are you playing?
The single best piece of advice is send your scouts to Sweden pronto and buy Scandinavian.

I can't understand what you are doing wrong..
unless you've got you players on intensive fitness training. If their fitness levels are between 60 and 80% then it's ok as it is the pre season. I'm normally not good in pre-season friendlies either. I've played CM ever since CM 92/93, yet every time it takes me a while to adapt to every new version because of all the changes so if you are coming in with no CM experience then it's going to be very difficult. Don't worry though, after only a few weeks (real life weeks!) you should have gotten the hang of it. Remember it's extremely realistic so any minor adjustments to tactics and training will have a bearing on results. Pay attention to players recommended on this thread they really do help. If you are still stuck it might be worth having a look at Mark Vaughan's guide to CM 00/01 which can be downloaded from www.thedugout.net (http://www.thedugout.net) (used to be the best CM site but isn't updated that often, and although it has a big forum section it is full of European weirdos. And the main moderator is called Bright*n) I'll try and post a direct link to the guide later. Im am campaigning to have a CM forum added to the BBS and Dave has asked me to remind him before the BBS is updated.
Anyway, good luck!

I'm still on my first season. I've got an excellent midfield and attack but a dreadful defence.
Now that most of the money is gone I can see that I should have spent more on defence. But I am comfortably mid-table and can say that at least my games aren't boring....always lots of goals (even if alot of them are in the wrong net).
So does anyone know any great, and cheap, defenders out there?
I agree with Goteborg... Anders Svensson is superb. I'm especially pleased because I discovered him without anyone else's help. Andri Sigporrson is fantastic, although I got that one as a tip.

I`d recommend
Laurie, Northwich Victoria
Notman, Manure
Bubb, Millwall
and Foley, Scousers as good young players who would come to Palace (only on loan in Foley and Notmans cases)
Also if you want to manage a title winning team staight away but can`t bring yourself to manage the Manc scum, try Brondby in Denmark who p1ss all over other Danish teams.

Well, I am now in 2023 with Dundee FC.
I have won 15 leagues, 18 cups and spent in total £323 million on players, and sold £378m worth of players...
I can only really recommend one player, as he was the most effective of all my signings...Daniel Jensen.
I think he plays for Heerenveen and he cost me £5.4 million but he was worth it.
I played him in midfield for 1 1/2 seasons, and then moved him up front. In his first season up front, he scored 38 goals in 29 games.
He helped me win the Champions League with Spartak Moscow.

Thank you too Zonin (also Ian of Chatham) for the very helpful advice. Do I have to actually APPOINT a trainer, or is that done automatically? If I do, (and I haven't) it would explain why they're so unfit!
Incidentally, I like your idea for a CM Forum, even though I'm clearly not going to be of much help to anyone! If the idea finds favour, I wonder if it could be extended to include Fantasy Football. There must surely be many like me who have various divisions at work entered in the National Fantasy League, or perhaps those who enter newspaper/media versions as an individual. It would be great to swap ideas on differeent players abilities, and strategy etc.

All countries will have a certain number of real players even if you dont have any backgrounds running. So there will always be Swedish, Argentinian, Italian players available. Even Japanese, Indonesians and Zaireans are available. You will always be able to scout countries even if they are not backgrounds.
When you select a country to run as background you simply get a few thousand more players (most of whom will be moderate to crap).
To see what I mean.. look at a foreign club like River Plate. They'll only have 4-5 real players. If you had selected Argentina as a background, they would have a complete squad of 30ish players.
I selected Scotland and the Conference because I think it creates more movement between those leagues and the English leagues which is more true to life. But dont worry about that, there are lots of good Swedish players available cheap, just send your scout there and he'll find plenty. Scotland isnt bad too for talent either, particularly defenders.
If you havent changed training then it will be automated and set on default levels which is fine to start the game with. You'll naturally click in there after a while and adjust things how you like. But you're okay to play your first couple of seasons without worrying about it.

Depending on which club you manage, you will have an assistant and coaches. I think Palace start without an assistant because both Houghton and Cockerill are classified as coaches (this doesn't mean that they cannot be you assistant, all you have to do is offer them a new contract as an assistant). Assistants don't do much more than coaches, except for managing your reserve team. I would always recommend having a full quota of Assistant, coaches and physios. Assistants and coaches are importrant for training while if you have 3 good physios your players are likely to have a shorter recovery time when injured. It is an advantage not a necessity to have scouts (Richard Stacey and Bob Clayton are good scouts who start the game unemployed and I would also recommend Kit Carson from Peterbrough) I nearly never have all my scouts out at once, I would think that you only needed 3 or 4. If you are a smaller club then finances do not always allow you to have a full complement of staff, it is up to you to find the right balance.
BTW here is a link to where you can download Mark Vaughan's hints and tips, it is very good, a word document about 35 pages long: http://www.thedugout.net/download_centre/CM00/Other/more4.html

I took Padova from Serie 2c to Serie A in straight seasons, the secret is to play 4-1-3-2 formation as given in default, Absolutely unstoppable then!!!!

Has anyone else experienced this?
Currently in my second season at Palace on 00/01 and virtually in ever other game I have at least one sometimes two strong penalty appeals turned down!
I'm convinced (without sounding like Alan Smith) that this was partially to blame for our relegation.
Whether this is thrown in to move you into complaining to the F.A about a ref (a new feature in 00/01) I don't know, but it just feels like downright victimisation to me!

One of the most important tips:
Whenever you are playing a team NEVER NEVER click on a player you might be interested in on the opposition team to see their stats as this nearly always means they will score against you.
If you dont believe me try it out a few times

Currently using your formation you suggested and im in 1st place with Palace in my 1st season! Bought Koumas for £2million and Horsfield for £1.4million. Played 28 games and 9 points clear. Sold Fan Zhiyi to Man U for 3.5million. Using the Palace update from a BBS member. Theres a few data pop up problems but it still works fine (so far)

Those of you playing 99/00 and complain about the £18m debt: Download an update for it. I have with mine and now you start the season with Ruddock, Craig Harrison and Jamie Pollock who are all quality in the game plus £6.5m in the bank. Just got promoted in my second season after in my first season leading for the whole year then ballsing it up in the final month then the play-offs.
Just a few players for you:
Alberto Artiguas -Spanish lower league attack who scores constantly
Michael Duff - Cheltenham, Right Back whose stats may not seem all that but becomes superb
Alex Aguiniga - Nexaca, Ecuador Captain and dirt cheap another player with an average of around 8
Marcus Allback - Swedish striker who in some games seems to score hatfuls of goals others not but will always finish with high ratings
Chris Llwellyn(dodgy spelling) - Attacking left sided player.
Andrew Quy - Bit shaky to start with but turns out to be an excellent player.
Jarko Wiss - Attacking CM pure class
Stephen Foster - Bristol Rovers central
Loads more to mention but these chaps as well as the 3 mentioned earlier are doing it for me at the moment.
