Apologies if this has been on before but...

A possibility?

No Croatians thanks. They only play when they feel like it.

I can't see us picking up any players from Euro2004, for the simple reason that anyone who has had a half decent tournament will come with an over-inflated price, wage demand and/or ego.

Croatia's best player. I'd love it if he came to Palace.

I wondered when someone would post this up.

I didn't bother as I thought his wages would be sky high - especially as we'd be in competition with Man City.

Interesting comment. Is that tongue in cheek bearing in mind your reaction to a not dissimilar comment on one of the Nigerian threads?

He won't come, Croatians don't like to play in countries where everyone makes sweeping generalisations apparently.

Both comments were tongue in cheek. It's a shame that the self-styled intellectual 917L (and a few others by the looks of things) was too thick to realise...

shall we just come back to reality. if they are good at euro 2004 then they wouldnt be interested in palace. and secondly are these the sorts of players to spend the money??? i want commited players who we could trust to stay and fight for promotion should we go down. we need to invest for the future and not 1 fling in the premiership, almost build a team that would stay up in 2 years time, not a player who wil be off at the first sign of trouble

<---- prepares himself for abuse as I'm going to bring up CM!!!

Last CM4 game I signed Rapaic on a free, gave me a quality season or two! ;)

Why not go for a guy with the quality of Rapaic? Sure we want players with commitment and determination but a little trickery, flair and uncertainty wouldn't go amiss either.

And while Palace may not be his first choice I'm sick to death of people saying things like "wouldn't be interested in Palace". We may not be world renowned but pleaser remember we are top flight in the most fashionable league and if we want to stay there we have to start acting like it.

And lets be honest Ancona to Palace doesn't sound too unlikely does it?

Ah a "specialist" subject. Rapaic is the best player Croatia have by a long shot. He's also vastly older than most of the squad (30/31).

He can play as either a center forward or wide on the Wing. He was at Ancona last season who finished rock bottom of Serie A. I think he'd be a good signing, although unlikely. We should look at Olic if anyone. He's a left winger/forward, and he's younger and quicker. He playes for CSKA Moscow.

Also Niko Kovac. A regular in the Croatia team, but hardly ever plays for Hertha BSC. He's 31, but looks like he still has a bit of talent. He's a bit like Shaun Derry (As in he can play defensive or attacking midfielder) but with more talent. If Portsmouth can get Mornar I'm sure we could pick up one or two of the Croatians if we really wanted.

We should definitly avoid Boris Zivkovic, and Giovanni Rosso. I can't figure out how a guy called Giovanni Rosso has a dual nationality of Croatian/Isreali. I'd expect some Italian in there.

Is Croatia an EU nation now? I can't remember who joined apart from Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Just been playing CM 03/04 as Croatia. Rapaic is a quality player in the game (and useful in real life too). Get's 9's and 10's every game for Croatia.

He's actually listed in the Euro 2004 programme fanbook as Dovane Rosso. Perhaps 'Giovani' is to make it easier for English speakers?

Everybody pronounces Prso incorrectly, so why not?

How do they pronounce it? I say it "Purshow".

Correct pronounciation is 'Prizj-oh'.

Rapaic rarely plays up front in the world outside of CM and PES, Jim - I trust that you're not going by computer games on this specialist subject of yours?

And Olic had a horrific season with CSKA; he's also worse than Mornar, who hardly set the Premiership alight with Pompey. No thanks.

Agree with you on your other points, although Rosso is a decent defensive midfielder. Not sure what your beef with him is.

Was a decent player for Perugia. Not sure that his wages would be too massive either - would depend on other clubs views of his Euro 2004 performances. I think we would have a chance and that he would be a decent aquisition, language and work ethic permitting.

I have seen Rapaic play a couple of times up front for Croatia. mainly at the World Cup though.

The trouble with Rosso is his "attitude". Apparently he's one of the main culprits behind the bust ups in the Croatia squad. He even stated he'd rather play for Israel than Croatia. Although not quite sure why. I mean Croatia actually qualify for tournaments.

Most of Croatia's best players play for top clubs R. Kovac (Bayern), Tudor (Juventus). Ok so maybe they only have two really high quality players. :D Rapaic would be good for us though. Ben I was basing Olic on EURO 2004. Have to admit I don't sit and watched the Russian League. :D

What about Niko Kovac, did you agree with me on that? Thank God Mornar is at Pompey! :D

Tudor is their only genuine class player.

The rest are average who manage to raise their game monumentally against the more celebrated footbaling nations.
