I have been dragged into a Xmas Panto! I would like to rehearse my accent and lines. Is there any way, with or without or a "free" download, to record my lines to hard disk and play them back??

Thanks for any help........

Interesting choice of forum Coveta!

Can't you just use a tape recorder? http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

I have to admit that I don't own one!

But, I DO have a computer and a mic!! Surely there must be a simple solution for a computer "beginner" like me?

The important thing's the hardware - do you have an audio sampler or a soundcard with sampling capabilities ?

What I just read:

That's Gaffer out of the loop!

If he's got one of those I would've thought that "jargon" would mean something to him. Sorry, can't really put it any simpler than "sampler" or "soundcard" !

Probably, but it's my own technical shortcomings that have left me feeling ashamed! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

I did say that I was a beginner, I'll have to admit that I don't really understand your reply..sorry

Coveta - do you have sound on your computer ? ie. does it make sounds at you ?

If so, then you'll probably have a soundcard (assuming it's a Windows PC). Have a look at the back of the machine and see if there are any headphone-type sockets - if there is one then there may be one that is labelled as "mic" or "line in" or something like that signalling that you can plug your microphone in and sample (ie. turn into computer data) the sound.

Try:
From the Start button select Programs, then Accessories then Multimedia then Sound Recorder. It should be a standard program on most PC's.

Watch out though, the files get very big, very quickly.

Yeah, yeah. You were just going to come out with more techno-babble like "monitor" and "keyboard" to confuse Gaffer http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

To make it simple for Gaffer:

I think you should take down to Tiffany's buy her a nice bracelet and then off for a slap up meal down Covent Garden. Candles, tablecloth, serviettes the works, then off home for a nightcap and romantic night of heartburn.

Right, thanks. I have tried this, but it seems that you can only record 60 secs at a time.

Say I wanted to record some CD tracks to hard disk?

Have you got a CD player in your PC ? If so there are quite a few utilities that will lift the audio off the CD and dump onto your harddisc - I'll have a look for some places where you can download them if you've got one.

Why don't you try the Music Match player, available as a free download from www.musicmatch.com. (http://www.musicmatch.com.)

This clever little bit of software, (there are countless others as well), will play all your own audio cd's and also record them as MP3 files onto your hard disk. It has lots of other nice little functions as well.

LOL! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif

I make no apologies for not being a sad techno-freak like some of you guys http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/wink.gif

David, sorry I prefer nice hotels to "audio samplers" and "sound cards"...

And you can find instructions for doing this at WWW.tvchannel.co.uk (http://WWW.tvchannel.co.uk)

Rather than musicmatch, try http://www.realjukebox.com it can come with realplayer and realdownload if you want. With Realjukebox you can record audio cds and create cd's of your own if you have a cd re-writer as well as countless other things. Realplayer replaces Windows media player if you want it to or can just be a backup. Realdownload allows you to pick up where you left of downloading, even if you are disconnected from the intewrnet, they are great! (between you and me, realjukebox is better)

ps. I am not a computer boff, its just so easy.

pps. I am not advertising for Real in any way, shape, or form! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif
