Number of bets; 20 in the first round and 15 in the second round.
This thread is only to be used for competition comments. Any other bets that are not part of the Masters should be put on the normal Betting Thread.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the betting masters '08 must “register” (post on this thread) before the end of 18 of July. It's free to join and the only rule upon joining is that you start your first tip with I'M IN in capitals at the start of it so that I can keep an easy trace of when people started their campaigns.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days.

3 In the second round the 4 finalists all start on 0 points, but the winner from the first round will get an additional 10 points (1 bet) to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round.

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the 01 of July (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on Tuesday 20/07/04. Then the top four posters come together in a mini league from there on and out June month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the 31, July.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score on august 1st

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices. In the case of exchanges/live betting, in order to clarify that a price genuinely existed the player must put on some of their real money to create a betting slip that will confirm the price they have submitted for Betting Masters. Most prices will be acceptable but in the case of a very high price, a player may be asked to produce a screen print on the thread to verify the price they
quote.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10 For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than international cricket/European soccer/tennis.

11 Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

12. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that If you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together.

How do the contestants feel about a format change for the month of July. Since many are away on holidays in July (3 out 7 thus far)

What I’m proposing is that we just do the first round this time. 20 bets and the winner after that is the winner, no second round.

It’s just a suggestion and I’m hoping for some feedback from the participants, majority rule...

Hi All

I have good news and bad news for Pauldrulez. Good news is he has 10 extra points which he badly needs!

His 13/2 shot returns 75 not 65 as posted.

The bad news is he has posted 3 each way bets as single bets which means I make it he has used 13 bets total. I will recheck.

I will wait for Stigma to say what is correct on the Each Way rules but I asked this question in the June compo and did not get a negative answer so assumed this was correct.

'I make that 11 bets I think as i'm doing 5 Each ways' One was a single.

Also part of rule 9. says 'each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet'

Therefore EW counts as two bets. I'm sorry if i'm wrong but that is how I understood it to be and I did ask in the last compo.

Can we have a ruling please Stigma? Thanks.

From the bookies rule book:
EACH WAY (E/W) SINGLE
This actually consists of two bets, the 50% on the WIN SINGLE, and 50% on the PLACE, which covers you for a horse placed 2nd or 3rd (4th in 16+ runner handicaps). The PLACE part is usually paid as 1/4 the odds, although each bookmaker does change this slightly due to runners, race type, etc. Check the details on there web site.

E/W bets are counted as a single bet in the masters, which means 10 points / 2

Just be reading about e/w bets rulings in past betting masters, the headache continues.
Because in the march one we actually agreed that e/w bets were banned and that points couldn't be split.
But a general feeling was expressed by Grim Reaper:
I suppose though two 10 point bets (one to win, one to place) is acceptable.

Mostly due to Örebro's awful defense. They've let in 21 goals in 9 matches, and have the worst Goals Against record in Allsvenskan. IFK Göteborg have a lot of good players, and I can see them score a couple. Örebro usually score at home too, so I expect a 1-2 or 2-2 scoreline or something thereabouts.

Hammarby is a typical 1-0 team, and Trelleborg - Elsfborg I dropped due to those two teams inability to score. Trelleborg with 7 goals in 9 matches and Elfsborg with 6...

I agree that this month’s competition was a bit of a waste, with holidays and all that. But in normal months the number of participants shows that there’s still interest for it..In august we've got the Premier league, Serie A, Primera division, Bundesliga and all that starting again.

Sorry to be the bearer of badtidings but in the rules it say all bets must be possible. ie. multi bets must be placed with the same bookmaker or at SP. PaulRulz has a patent listing two bookies for the odds.
