Oakes is a very skillful, and very telnted youngster, although, i am worried about how many midfield players we r getting, and already have. a good move if he joins

Can't have too many midfielders in my opinion. Creative midfielders particularly. Cut out the hoof over the top and build from the back maybe.

Another very lightweight midfielder Smithy used to collect. Remember Bowry, Newman, Matthews

That's probably why he's signed Pollock!

Yes, he may be 'lightweight', but he is very skilful. Looks like Palace are gradually getting some depth to their squad...

Oakes has been in desperate need of someone to save his career, he's been forgotten about at Sheff Wed since his injury. Before that he was often a matchwinner for Luton then Sheff Wed.

It may be worth signing him for a year, and seeing if he gets back to his previous best....but probably nowhere near the 1st team just yet.

I,m not knocking Oakes. He is a skillful midfielder, but he is lightweight for this division. Pollock the lardball certainly isn't, but I would rather go for the skillful players myself, not the typical English clogger that's ruined our game over the last 20 years. But I'm in the minority and most clubs want the hard running triers, who can't pass, that's why players like Oakes find it so hard.

No - but I saw him described as a "talented youngster" earlier on in this thread.

He's got to be mid-to-late twenties by now - does that qualify as a "youngster" these days?

Wasnt it Oakes who featured on a footie documentary whilst playing for Luton a while back where a fan was giving the manager grief and shouting at him to take Oakes off just before Oakes picked the ball up miles out, ran straight in on goal and slotted it coolly into the net?

He doesnt seem to come very highly rated.Heres what the Sheff weds site says,

A former Luton prodigy under Pleat, he arrived for what seemed a bargain price in summer 1996 with a reputation for being a skillful, pacy, footballing attacking midfielder with an eye for goal. However, since his move his has shown precious little of these qualities, and has been given few chances to shine. Seemingly unable to tackle and not of the highest workrate, he seems to be surplus to requirements at Hillsborough.
