Work permits

Now that Tony Popovic has agreed a new two year deal it is still subject to obtaining a work permit.

Does anyone know what might prevent him obtaining one as he was a regular with us last season?:bash:

Apparently he didn't meet the standards for last year, so he has appealed to a board to try and get one even though he might be turned down, and have to go homw. But hopefully his appeal win be successful.

According to the Adder, Phil Alexander has said that the first application failed but we won the appeal on Wednesday. :p

So looks like everything is hunky dorey. :)

No, but basically tony didn't play enough (in fact any) competitive games for Australia and also Australia are currently ranked too low to earn automatic work permit. It will be interesting to see what happens with Mr Viduka as a new permit is apparently needed when you change employer. Pops only needed his extended which is, apparently, easier especially as he got a rise as it can be taken as as indication of his importance to the company. (Thanks to a mate in HR for this info - I can't vouch 100% for the accuracy as we are in different industries)

Some article mentioned it was because he didnt go to the Commonwealth games which dropped his international games played percentage.

Indeed. We will gain the permit on basis of fact he could have played if he'd chosen to - so don't worry.

I'm sure he would have been most welcome at the Commonwealth Games, but the article has got it a little wrong . Football isn't an event at the Games.

Are we likely to run into difficulty with work permit problems with Julian Speroni ?, presumably he is not a full international and the change of club may cause us more problems.
