View Full Version : I have a selhurst goal post and crush barrier

memorabilia time folks. My claim to fame is that I have the right hand goalpost as you are looking at the holmesdale from the smith championship year . I also have a crush barrier from compound three in the old terrace. Both achieved thru drunken midnight raids on selhurst during the pre season of the then forthcoming premiership campaign
To this day i will never know how I got that post home as I used to live up the top of South Norwood hill and the thing was about 9 foot high (lovely wood oval shape). I climbed in between this gap in the holmesdale , down the semi-demolished terrace
It gets a but blurry here . My friend Lord fruity was having trouble still getting over the wall as he is of the large variety. After about 20 mins stuggling we were both in . Selhust is pretty spooky at midnight. After hauling the post out of the ground(the crossbar was missing at the time I made my way to the whitehorse/arthur turnstiles .
This is a doddle to climb over onto the street, and from here i walked home with my treasure. I repated the sortie a couple of days later to get my crush barrier , minus the legs. My claim to fame is imortalised in the yearbook celebrating this promotion year as there is a spread on the holmesdale development and a photo showing the building work with only one goalpost standing. they now both stand proudly in my back garden

Goal posts usually start at 8ft high. How high your post now. http://64.65.14.178/ubb/wink.gif

My mate has a toilet seat from the bogs that stood at the top of the Holmesdale Terrace.

The really disturbing thing about this is that he wore it home around his neck without even the merest hint of a cleaning agent.

I went for a higher class of CPFC memorabillia that day, the Gents Toilet sign. Well I had spent a lot of lager in there afterall.

Anyone nick the urinal ?

And again on the same subject - my same mate that has the crash barrier - also has his seat from Wembley on the day that we beat Sheff U in the play-off's !! http://64.65.14.178/ubb/supergrin.gif

Large?? Cheeky blighter.

I was only 16 stone!!! I think the reason I couldn't get up and over was mainly because I hadn't drunk as much of that incredible climbing ale as you.

However, On your first sortie, you were all alone, which makes it all the more impressive. On the second, you got the C/B pole, but I had both legs, which are still the scurge of Lady Fruity's life. She will never understand!!.

Signing off with Snowy's (Flanges Pa) immortal words....

"Now what the f**k has he brought home!!!"

I managed to get a sign from the Holmesdale that said Gate 10, after the Watford game. The trouble is, you nick this stuff and then it just sits there gathering dust. I think my mum made me chuck it out when it was still stuck in her house three years after I moved out!

Mind you, she's chuffed with the chunk of Holmesdale terrace on her rockery!

Like most people I have a bit of the famous Holmesdale Terrace in the back garden back home.

My favorite though is from QPR, when we lost 1-0, managed to nick a photographers jacket from the pitch invasion after the game.

After the Blackburn Promotion game & the following pitch invasion, while everyone was heading for the directors box I was carefully cutting around a large slice of the turf and proceeded to take it home and plant it in my front garden where it has stayed. Funny thing is it looks in better nick than the current one !!

When I used to be a steward we blagged quite a few items of memoribilia, A mate got Phil barbers "all-in-one" subs Bukta track suit (when he was sub, circa 1992). Another mate ran onto the pitch at Ewood Park and nicked a training ball. My nearly blag was Eddie McGoldricks right boot.

Nicked the 'away team' sign on the dressing room prior to a game v Sheff Utd a few years back when Butts brought me along and dared me to. So I did.

My goal post is no more. Sitting rotting somewhere on a garage roof I believe in West wickham.

It never fitted in the removal van when I last moved:(

Crush barrier is still in good shape though and sits happily in my shed, resplendent in the blue paint of it's last year in compund three.:lux:

I have a blue away coach 'Visitors' sign from opposite the Admin offices, circa 2000-2002? Gathering dust in my room now, although it enjoyed a few years above a chair as if indicating some sort of waiting area.

If we got evicted from Selhurst, we could construct a new stadium out of this lot.

I have the Ground Regs Poster from the Holmesdale Terrace from the last game before the Holmesdale Stand was constructed.
Loads more Palace memorabilia collected over the years including signed shirts and a "Glaziers" Lamp shade from the late 60s.

I've got the whole of the old Whitehorse Lane terrace in my garden, and the floodlight pylons on each side. Must've been smashed out of my head when I nicked that and I had to pay extra to get it on the bus home.

I still have my brick sized lump of Holmesdale Terrace, it has survived funny comments on two house moves now, but I'm not parting with it.
