Is this really true? Teamtalk names Cottee as a target for Jordan.

He's 35! Please don't let this be true...

first of all if it's teamtalk take it with a pinch of salt

if it is true - I do seem to remember it being mentioned on this board before - in the SHORT term it might not actually be too bad a move.

That's the trouble - we should be looking to the long term. We want to build the nucleus of a team that will take us into the Premiership - Cottee will not be part of that. Much better to buy a good 27/28 year old if we want an experienced striker.

Success will come by having a good solid team that will only need certain additions once we get up. We don't want to win promotion and then have to buy 8 new players.

The fact that its been on this board probably explains where Teamtalk got their story from. I assume there weren't any quotes?

usual Teamtalk "caveat". I think all of our current forwards would do well to look and learn from Cottee, both for getting in to striking positions in the area and also being able to finish! could be a good thing, short term.

I've just found the full report, and there weren't any quotes. It also said that Cottee had a big money move from West Ham to Everton in 1998. This must be about ten years wrong?

Apparently, the entire basis for the story is that Alan Smith wants a new striker, and Tony Cottee is unlikely to be any more than third choice at Leicester.

Les Ferdinand is more likely IMVHO

Gabbiadini has been banging them in for the last 2 seasons. Any takers?!

I was the one who mentioned Cottee on the Peschisolido (sp?) thread. I said it then and I'll say it again, I think he'd be a great short term buy. Knowing teamtalk this is probably where the story came from. But anyway he would score goals and would add a bit of muscle to our forward line. Forrsell is looking worse and worse by the game. Cottee will help us for this season whilst we look for a good young striker.
