View Full Version : Crawley game

I'm presuming that the game starts at 3pm... I finish work at 2 (just up the road), so I'll be straight down to the game after.

Who else is going and is there any chance I can meet them there?

how would I get to Crawley from London Bridge?

Er, train? Should be able to get one there, I think, go down to Horsham and change trains there, although I'm not sure of that.

You can get a train direct from London Bridge, but they only run once an hour and stop everywhere. Best best, get to East Croydon or Clapham and change. Three Bridges is ok and get a cab. Loads of cabs at either Crawley or Three Bridges. Game kicks off at 3pm, £6 on terrace, £7 in seats. Quite a few fans will be there judging by earlier threads.

So are we all gonna congregate in one part of the ground, cos I would like to meet some of you lot.

Was told by an expert that Three Bridges is miles better for pubs, cab's to the ground though near bus station also? had to write this down as I was on the BBS pud crawl at the time. New ground so I'm up for it. Do we need tickets in advance as I think a surprising amount of the RED & BLUE ARMY will show up on the day?.

Has anyone got contacts at Crawley FC?

Afterall if they do not plan to open the whole ground they may get caught out. I guess all Crawley fans are gonna try and get to this one and if the BBS is anything to go by Palace could be there in force. Do you remember the intertoto fiasco when the game was delayed cos Palace didn't expect that many people?

To get to Crawley from London Bridge - change at East Croydon.

When you get to the other end - the ground is about two miles from the train station - handily there is a cab office right out the front of the station.

I recommend the club house for drinking at the ground - it;s a nice little club.

Will be posting a bit more detail in the next few days.

Went to the ground this week. No tickets on sale before the game, they don't expect a big crowd. I told him to think otherwise, to which he was quite happy!! Should be alright if you get there 2.30pm. It holds 5000.

Only really 1 pub at 3 Bridges (The Snooty Fox) right opposite the station. The bus station is outside Crawley Station as is a cab office. Probably more pubs from Crawley on way to Broadfield. Have just got in from the club house at Crawley and they are open Saturday if you are not a member you must have a ticket for the match. No tickets on sale until Saturday!

Before or after Selhurst!!

and if anyone has any useful info please pm or e-mail it to me today or tomorrow and I'll put all the details on one thread together.

oh and I'd be surprised if they weren't expecting a reasonable sized crowd as according to their web site their highest attendance at Broadfield Stadium was 2,424 v Crystal Palace 14th August 1997, Pre-season friendly!

Bud Eagle

I was there too. And I've seen us play there a couple of times before, including one of Ray Wilkins only full appearances.

Anyway, can someone keep a look out for me in the ground, as I don't have much of an idea what you lot look like. I'll be the one in the Palace shirt...

I was at the Crawley game either 2 or 3 years ago - I remember there were 10 Palace substitutions made at half time and Curcic scored a blinding free kick.

I'd like to meet you lot as well - does anyone know the ground well enough to suggest where we all congregate?

The club house is an ideal place to meet.

Look forward to meeting you all.

11.00am at East Croydon sounds good to me. Should be plenty of trains to Three Bridges, straight in the pub, then share cabs to the ground.

Gooders
17-07-2000, 07:42 PM
Oh yeah - that linesman - he was the spitting image of Basil Fawlty!

I seem to remember that the grandstand got pretty full last time so if you want to sit I suggest you get there in good time - especially as it seems that we are about to break their attendance record!

Get a train to Three Bridges they run quite regular and if you time it right you will go there and only stop at Gatwick.

Anyone going from Brighton?

From M23 Junction 11, stay in right hand lane and take A23 to Crawley, 1 1/2 miles down on left hand side! Can't miss it!

lightweight

Alternative to M23 is the A217 - the stadium is really well signposted Teaser - better than most other grounds!!

If anyone fancies meeting in the Snooty Fox opposite Three Bridges station (11-1 ish) myself and Dodger should be there.

Cabs won't be a problem - there's a rank at the station opposite. It's not far either.

Im leaving Croydon by car at about 1.00 - 1.30pm so hopefully Ill meet you all in the clubhouse. There is another pub not far from the Snooty Fox, called the Frogshole or something, a converted Barn, but I think the clubhouse is a better bet

Laurie

It is a nice little clubhouse and a good place to meet, but they only allow a few in at a time if it is busy. Palace played all there reserve matches there a couple of seasons ago, it's a good little ground which generates a good atmosphere.

Does anyone know how much it will cost to get from East Croydon down to...ummm....Crawley or Three Bridges? (Which one is the closest to the ground).
Altenatively, can someone tell me the number for Rail Enquiries? **** 48 49 50 or something? HELP PLEASE!

le piddler
20-07-2000, 04:37 AM
Snorwood, I think that the train from East Croydon is around five or six quid, however do'nt quote me on this but you can try British Rail on 0345 48 49 50 & ask them.
For train stations both Crawley & Three Bridges are the nearest & both have cab firms outside to get you to the ground as I'm not sure what buses go there. http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/supergrin.gif http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/supergrin.gif

P.S. Outside Three Bridges is a top boozer called The Snooty Fox which does good food & a top pint so that's worth a try if you do'nt fancy the Crawley Clubhouse!

I am thinking of bringing my video camera - to try and get an odd pre-season goal clip or two ... but I know that many grounds forbid the use of video cameras inside the ground. Does anyone know Crawley's policy on this? has anyone had any problem taking a camera (still or video) into other grounds?

Laurie
20-07-2000, 06:42 PM
Another pub worth meeting in is The Wetherspoons down the high street in Crawley.Used to go there before reserve games and they let shirts in. Its typically Wetherspoons, cheap. Opposite Argos store in high street.

lightweight
20-07-2000, 09:26 PM
James - never had a problem with normal cameras.. (and I don't think Selhurst does either!! http://www.cpfc.org/ubb/smile.gif ) although I do remember at Barnsley once they insisted we took photos at half time only so we didn't get the players in them!!

Not sure about video cameras though.

Argos has moved, so don't go looking for it. It's next door to William Hill.
