We've already mentioned how keepers always seemingly reserve their best game to play a blinder against you. But even more annoying are wage negotiations.

I took the famous Mogens Laursen on trial (as recommended by other CMs) His stats were decidedly patchy so I asked my scouts and they were so-so. I negotiated a contract and he's wanting 29 K a week  (three times my highest earner and I can only afford 14 K a week, despite a 50M surplus) I offer him 10K, he says bye bye.

Not two days later he signs for some obscure German team and his wages are... £550 / week. FER GODS SAKE MAN. I offered him twenty times that, he wanted sixty times that and he signs for them for 550 a week???

Jamie Smith wants to negotiate a new contract (despite not being that good). He doesnt believe the club can meet his demands. I transfer listed him. Whats the betting he'll be earning less at Bristol C or whoever than he ever was with me?

Yeah its north of Arizona. Going west to east think California, then Nevada desert, Rocky Mountains and then you're in Colorado. Very nice place from what Ive heard, but Ive never been.

Cheers Steve:) have you tried Carriere from Nantes....Daniel_Nash told me about him and he's turned out to be a champ in my team(although I must say I've only had him 1 season)

fricking board. I spot these two 16 yo's in Watford reserves, ask for them in part exchange when Watford bid for another player and the board expects them to be first team players because of a large transfer fee! god.

--yes this is becoming my personal bitching thread but feel free to join in--

You can never persuade a decent scout to leave his present club even if you offer him twice as much money per week as he is currently getting plus a generous signing on fee.

I suggest Anderson (former Newcastle) and David Collins if you are 1st Divison. Check the results!

Things that annoy me...

Despite being 5th in the Prem as Rushdens, in Europe and a top side, I can't sign another bloody physio. No-one will come to me :grrr:

Goal keepers who get 4/10. All the time :grrr:

The wages thing as well, is very annoying, bu I never just accept what they want, I always negotiate lower.

Minimum Fee release clause. Beware, you can lose your best players for low money if they've requested this :grrr:

He is quality for me. Prases from everybody! SIGN HIM :)

(Just won league, 109 points with a game left, could have been more but I played some reserves. And lost to Liverpool in league cup final 4-1 :( Richie Partdrige getting 3 :( )

Before version 00/01, whenever I became the manager of a club I would put everyone on the transfer list. It didn't mean that I thought they were rubbish or wanted to get rid of them, I just wanted to see what kind of offers would come in. You always need money in CM.
In the new version, however, as soon as you put someone on the transfer list they throw the dummy out of the pram and it affects the morale of the whole team. It's a pain, makes it much harder to get out of financial trouble.

Well, to solve the problem of high wages, the usual excuse is to offer a clause in the contract, or to offer the person a (relatively) large transfer fee.

If I can't sign someone, but I know they kick arse, I usually offer the moneygrabbing b*stard a signing on fee of around £200,000-£600,000. This may seem like silly money, but it's worth it if you win something at the end of the season.

I did this as manager of Walsall...wanted to sign Efan Ekoku, tried to offer him a contract, and he refused it, said he wasn't prepared to move due to a difference in language and lifestyle. I then offered him £400000, he accepted, and I then got promoted thanks to his goals, earning the team around £3m.

Yeah I hate this. Quite often I'll want to sell someone instead of letting them rot in my reserves. I wanted to let Morrison go as he wasnt good enough for me but I also wanted to see what he could do somewhere else. Like you say he spat the dummy and revealed in a parting clash it was down to me.

Although it does make the game a little more realistic, quite often it has the opposite effect. Also I wish there was something like the older versions where you could see if someone was available without being on the transfer list. Most of my squad I would sell but for the right price but I wouldnt transfer list them in case I upset them.

Like zonin says - I would like to see more player interaction, discussing his future plans and so on.

"Sean Devine gives Jon Reid a glowing testimonial to his efforts in training and believes he should be given his share of first team football."

Then,

"Your assistant Steve Devine has informed you that Jon Reid is showing signs of developing into a quality player for the club."

So I requested a coach report from all my coaches:

"Steve Devine is concerned that young Jon Reid has not progressed in the manner that we expected during his time with the club.

He thinks you should consider placing this player on the transfer list"

(same from all coaches.

GOD. Make up your minds would you.

I seem to rememeber trying to sign Franco Baresi as an assistant manager. I offered him 20,000 a week and also a signing on fee of 3m and he still rejected it. :(

Why must Good players on frees come from NON-EU countries, and, even though they have scored like 50 goals last season, they still dont have the caps needed for a permit!!!

I am sure the game just puts them there to p155 you off!

Another thing that annoys me is that, even though i have masses of games in hand, as soon as i drop out of the top two places in the premiership players start having a go saying that we are underachieving! This leads to players being unhappy about the lack of harmony etc.

GRADE A ANNOYANCE! :( :( :(

Agree with this

Also...

When going to the player search section, I always click 'Interested' on to 'yes', in a bid to not bother chasing players who won't come to me. I then offer contracts to 'interested' players who say 'they'd find it very difficult to leave their club' or 'want to wait to the end of the season to before deciding'. So they're not interested in moving, are they? So why say they are?

I've read somewhere that the makers of CM deliberately made the game so 4-4-2 doesn't work very well, which I think is stupid as most teams in the world play it.

English players always under achieve and are hopeless, which I find annoying as I'd buy more if they played OK.

it annoys me when complaining about a ref, all the FA says is how they understand my position, but they back the ref. every bl@*#y time, even when i has 3 players sent off, two of them harsh according to the commentary!

and it also annoys me how easy it is to stay in the premiership when you get promoted. i wish that they would make it a little challenging. i want the challenge where we struggle, and i need 10 wind out of 13 to stay up.

Steve in Phoenix

I agree its a little too easy to make it up the premiership ranks.

Have you tried managing a tiny team all the way up? I havent done that since 93/94 but will probably do so eventually. Its supposed to be more challenging.

The easy way of complaining, and getting a good result:

1) Look in the referee League Table, you have those that are poor at the bottom, and those that are good at the top.

2) If the allocated referee is good or average, forget about making a complaint...it won't work.

3) However, if the ref has a poor average rating, complain to the FA after the match.

4) You will now get an FA reply similar to : "We have received a number of complaints about this particular referee. The FA have decided to replace him".

Done!

The only ref i have ever managed to get sacked was in the beta of 00-01. I was playing Lyngby in a friendly, and 3 of my players got sent off, they got 2 penalties and beat me 5-3. I complained and the FA agreed with me, the ref was sacked. Hehehe

I have a player I purchased who, if you go to the transfer icon, says that he wished he never joined, he doesn't like me and he clearly made a mistake in signing. Then, under morale, it says "superb".

I'd like to know what he'd say about me if his morale was less than superb!

I signed a Georgian striker from Chelsea (Rat-something) on a free when his contract expired. He had some awesome stats (finishing, heading and jumping all 20 and off-the-ball high teens) and I was getting him for a reasonable wage. At the time I signed him, even though Chelsea seldom used him, he had 21 caps and by the time he was due to join me he'd added a couple more. What happens -- denied work permit, of course, even though you always get a permit if the player has 20+ caps. So he sits in Chelsea's first team on a monthly contract but they can't play him -- he has no permit now. I try again. He comes over. Work permit denied. So I wait for Chelsea to decide, as you'd think they would, to cut him from the squad (they pay him but he can't play), then I'll try again. Instead, Fulham, like Chelsea and my Palace a premier team, offer him a contract almost the same as the one's I've offered and boom, he signs and his work permit arrives in a week. Give me a break.

I came accross a weird one yesterday. There's this player I want to buy called Leilton. At the time he played for Inter and wants a new challenge etc etc. I tried to sign him and he wanted just 10,000 a week with a signing on fee of 450,000. He agreed to come to me and a couple of weeks later he was denied a work permit. After this Inter let him go on a free and because loads of big foreign clubs went for him straight away I decided to stop them from getting him by also approaching him. He decided that he wanted 50,000 a week and a £1m signing on free. Strange that I thought.

GOING 3-0 UP IN THE POXY UEFA CUP FINAL AGAINST EVERTON ONLY TO LOSE 4-3 IN EXTRA TIME!!!!!!!!!

I ALSO LOST AT GOODISON 4-3 IN THE LEAGUE AFTER, GUESS WHAT?, GOING 3-0 UP!!!!!!!

THE GAME HAS A BUG, I'M CONVINCED.

Other strange thing - player of mine is unhappy, says the 'Club's valuation of him is unrealistic' So I reduced his value to Zero. He still thinks the club's valuation of him is unrealistic.

How come sometimes a player is interested in joining you.. so you bid, accepted, offer the contract and he says "is not interested in joining Tottenham/Palace/Stevenage because he is very happy with his role at China FC" or whatever.

If he was interested in coming to my team why say no!

I am a good manager :(! I am very popular with the fans!!

I have found when you buy a top name player, say... Lilian Thuram bought by Nantes, a lot of others want to join you... as Nantes i could now get Zidane, Mendieta and Owen if i wished. Sadly, not even i have the amount of money to do that... and its the French League, do i really need these players?!?

There are only a few top teams, PSG, Lyon and Monaco.

Manager Claudio Ranieri said that while Edmundo has been performing well he hopes there is more to come from him"

He is sure that he can convince Ranieri of his worth in the future"

Didn't sound to me like he was being criticised !!

I found the following piece of commentary last night pretty hard to take, to say the least! Scores were level, 90 minutes on the clock, my team were in possession, and this was the commentary:

"Mackay comes forward with the ball.
Mackay passes it to Forrester.
Forrester skips past Jones in the area.
Forrester only has the keeper to beat!
Forrester passes it to Tweed.
Tweed comes forward in his own half.
Final whistle."

How did we get from only having the keeper to beat to dribbling the ball in our own half????????????? :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:
