My wife, kids & friends have always thought it peculiar, but over the years just about got used to the strange behaviour of a grown up man regarding his national Fantasy League team. Whilst still perplexed, they have become accustomed on a Sunday afternoon to the sight of me doing a lap of honour of the living room just because a player I own in the match on Sky has just got an assist, and therefore gained me 2 points. But at least my reactions are in relation to real people and real events.

Contrast that with my recent discovery of the fun of CM. The other night I leapt out of my chair, yelled with delight at the top of my voice, and caused such a commotion that my family came running upstairs to the study to see what the matter was. And what was the cause of all this commotion? A simple message on a computer screen , which read:

"Goal for Northampton. Forrester scores"

Now, these aren't real people. And Forrester, whoever he is, didn't really score, because it's just a computer game. So, how do you explain this curious behaviour from a middle-aged man? My wife would like to know.

In the meantime, is this sad? Or do you know sadder?

But hey mate, its escapism...

I have ran down the stairs many times to shout and jump if someone has scored an important goal.

Chris Vieri scored the winner for Inter in the CL Final and I tell you, my cheer for that matched what I did at Stockport.

Its flashing text for crying out loud!!

Erm. He plays for Northampton town in the second division.
Now i know it seems like the second division isnt real but some poor sods have to regularly watch it.

Now thats sad!

oi, the second divison is the creme de la creme mate ;)

i always cheer my goals! and go out and get pissed if, say, i win the title... actually, i go out and get pissed a lot.... maybe it's nothing to do with cm really :D

jlmatthews cut his knee (blood went everywhere) whilst celebrating a goal in the hampions League Quarter-finals of CM!!

Now that IS sad - especcially for a Yank!

Off topic i seriously think we should try to sign forester, i use to watch Cobblers and the guy is class, we could probably get him for 250k n`all

I must admit when, when I conceded a goal because of a penalty in the last minute to draw I was pretty mad.

I punch the air if my team scores (OK if I'm on my own, but I have to hope the girlfriend is watching the telly and not me if she's down)

When Tonton scored the second away to Huddersfield to cement Palace's place in the top six, I jumped up, punched the air and screamed "I fecking love this club!".

Sad child.

I came close to putting my fist through the screen when Kevin Miller kept saving everything thrown at him when we were beaten by Barnsley last season.

I needed a win to secure Serie A with Inter. at 4-0 up I would have thought it was in the bag but I did ACTUALLY HIT THE SCREEN:grrr: :grrr: when i went down 5-4 after including 3 OWN GOALS

Blimey! I would have punched the screen as well with three own goals.

Yesterday I went home miserable from work. My wife asked me if I'd had a bad day at work. "Yes" I barked "we lost 4-0 against Everton".

I can no longer distinguish between real life an CM. Thank god I only play it at work. At least I'm vaguely sane in the evenings.:eek:
