Anyoe had a player who's promoted from the youth team who's any good?
I've had three, but all right-sided midfielders for some reason.
So I sold one to Spurs for £3m, and the other two, aged 18 and 19, get about 20 games each a season.
Think it helps if you make sure you've got a top Youth Academy, and coaches who are good at working with youngsters.

To begin with my youth players are tosh, but after a few seasons you get the ones who are just so damn good!
As well as the youth academy and good coaches to bring them on it also helps if you have a smaller squad. Once you have a certain number of players in your squad you get youth players quite often.
As Spurs i sold 5 players in one pre season, was left with a small ish (maybe 25 players - my transfer bids hadn't been completed yet) squad, and i got 2 youth players. Always seem to be MC's though, not the Dj type either.

Someone once told me you will get youth players that are similar to your star players. For example if you have Ryan Giggs, you'll get young fast dribbling wingers coming through.
This was definitely true in the earlier versions, I would get 4 right wingers coming through or something like that. Not sure if it applies any more. All Ive had so far are DC and MC who are crap. One DC looked amazing and then his stats ran downhill and he was terrible which I found a bit weird.

Once you are a top club with a top academy you will get some AWESOME young players.
One summer i got two players - both 17 - who were instantly amazing and became 1st team regulars and within a couple of months i had them both in my regular England side too (and we won the world cup).
They both averaged over 8 in their first season and the striker scored 10 goals in his first nine games for England.

Am I right in thinking the youth team players are the ones in "faded" print? If so, how do they change into reserve team players? Does the programme do it automatically for you, or do you have to take some action yourself?
I'm in my second season and I'm pretty sure all the players who were in faded print in the first season are still in faded print. Should I have done something?

No, you're slightly off. They are generated players that appear in your side. Comes up "Daniel Nash has been promoted from the youth team for assesment. Your coach xxxxxxxx thinks he is a decent player"
Or something.

Thanks Daniel.
So what becomes of all those other players in the faded print then? Do they ever serve a purpose?

Well, for teams who aren't featured in the game.. like when you play a Moldovan team in the UEFA Cup or something they won't have many players so you make up for it with the grey ones.
I have had an occaision when i played Roma in the Super Cup. 5 of my starting players were off on International Duty and they had the same. I had to play with the grey players. You might find that if you have a good team the greys are also quite good.
