Forget the lack of striker...others can score too

Given the lack of striker. and previously the poor service to, and poor finishing by Benteke, we seem to have forgot that other members of the team should be weighing in with some goals. I wonder however if we have relied so much on the potential goalscoring ability of Benteke, that we have effectively trained the concept of individual goalscoring out of the rest of the players.

Given that Cabaye, MacArthur, and Puncheon (though not since he's been converted to a deep midfielder) have provided a few goals in their time at Palace, along with Dann... and both PVA and Townsend have a decent shot on them, how an earth can we change our play to get these players into decent goalscoring opportunities?

Agree, we will need more contribution from the midfielders and defenders. But the key is to get Zaha and RLC back on the pitch. They can score 20 goals between them for starters.

I reckon between them we might just about make double figures if we are lucky.

You are on crack if you think Wilf and RLC will even get close to 20 goals between them this season.

Over how many seasons!

Wilf 13 goals in 115 premier league games.

Reuben 1 goal in 26 premier league games

Punch last scored in the Cup Final.

When I were a lad playing if we were down 2 or 3 of our best players it was demoralising before we even got on the pitch - let alone expecting the average players to weigh in with goals that they never scored on a regular game.

How to Handle Losing in Sports By Patrick Cohn

Moving on After Mistakes

The Importance of Letting Go of Past Games

Do you find it difficult to get over a bad game or a loss?

Do you rehash your performance over and over in your mind, beating yourself up over every little mistake?

If you or your athletes keep replaying mistakes in your mind, it chips away at your confidence and interferes with your ability to perform to your capabilities in the next game.

It is absolutely normal to be upset over a loss and mistakes. You shouldn’t feel that there is something wrong with you after you played less than your best.

The problem is when you can’t let go of those negative thoughts and feelings… Or when you start doubting your ability to perform in the present… Or ask yourself, “Why does this always happen to me?”

Prolonged negative reactions to bad play becomes a mental burden or a weight that weighs you down and interferes with your game.

It's not just goals, it's that we continue to be a very basic side who can't retain possession, so having a focal point up front to look to hold the ball up and help us get up the pitch is important. This is especially the case without Zaha, because at least when he's playing he can carry the ball up the pitch, whereas others can't.

You could see in the first half against Man Utd (they just sat back in the second) that with Sako not winning the ball, holding it up, occupying their defenders, etc. we were constantly penned back in our own half and barely able to create a single chance.

Gotta be one of the last decent performances he put in too.

With all due respect, this is one of the most deluded threads I've seen. We simply don't have anyone in the squad beyond benteke and Wilf who are capable of scoring goals.

I doubt we will have more than two players scoring more than five goals this season. Unless we can bring in some quality forwards in January.

Puncheon, Cabaye, Townsend, RLC, Sako, Luka etc all don't score many goals. Sadly.

And celebrated by calling his manager a '******* wanker' for having the audacity not to pick him.

cdm61 03-10-2017 03:53 PM

How do you know that?

jimmy the gent 03-10-2017 03:54 PM

It's pretty clear on the replay, no?

cdm61 03-10-2017 04:03 PM

I don't know never watched it....the final was too much to relive...

cdm61 03-10-2017 04:08 PM

Yes I've just watched it. Agree pretty conclusive.

Palacebear 03-10-2017 04:24 PM

Last seasons PL scorers were;

CB 15
Wilf 7
J Mc 5
YC 4
Dann 3
Tomkins 3
AT 3
Luka 2
Connor 2
PVA 2
Frazer 1
Ledley 1

We need the same again from CB & wilf. RLC has to replace J Mc goals.

AT needs to score more, Punch just needs to bloody score, we cannot have a midfielder not scoring this season.

The others need to step up and score at least as many as last season.
