Your First Ever Away game.
My apologies if there's been a thread about this already but quite frankly I can't be arsed to check.
It's a personal defect but meh. Anyhoo, what's yours? It's not a competition btw. Can't remember if mine was at The Gallstone or Gillingham. It's a close one. I remember the Brightscum visit as if if were yesterday. I was about 9 or 10. It was so packed in the away end that we had to stand on the roof of the Khazi. How ironic! Standing on a Khazi in a Khazi! As for Gillingham, well Denny Warren was there with his old woman (she loved a row too). But that's another story. And you? |
Shrewsbury away 03/10/1987. We lost 2-0 and were shit.
|
Wimbledon away, 1st April 1986. Drew 1-1, Ian Wright header, Away end packed with Palace fans.
Drove there in my old yellow Ford Escort estate, which was closer in technology terms to a horse and cart than a modern day car |
Reading away at Elm Park.
Think we won 3-2, Gilkes scored for them, Nebbling got one of ours, 198-something (open to answers) I can also remember if you stood at the back of the terrace you looked straight down into the urinals, well classy! |
Fulham 77-78 season. Was a draw. Great laugh.
|
southampton v palace in the coca cola cup. Salako scored two in the 7th and 14th minute. Remember being blown away with everything, i was only about 14. My dad dropped me and a mate off and collected me afterwards. Nice.

Bristol City 2 - 0 Crystal Palace - August 1993.

13th September 1968 v Fulham.
Promotion season. We had started well, Fulham were struggling (might have even been bottom?). I went with a couple of schoolmates whose father was on a coach organised from the factories in New Addington. We lost, of course, to goal from Malcolm "Supermac" MacDonald, who back then was still a left back (remember them?), a left-foot pile-driver into the bottom corner from 25 yards, which was later to become one of his trademarks. On the way home, the coach stopped a boozer until 11pm closing, with us kids sitting on the coach being supplied with crisps and cola (no kids in pubs back then either). We finally arrived home around midnight, where my dad was pacing up and down outside the factories, fit to be tied. I wasn't allowed away evening games for a while after that. Still a good evening, though :p |

Remember having to step over piss heads in the nearby boozer on the way to the ground. |
Possibly Oxford - Peter Taylor debut
|
Millwall away 2001? under francis? we got smashed.
|
Other than Charlton or Wimbledon at Selhurst, I think it was as a 7 year old to see Palace beat the mighty Luton Town 0-1 en route to winning Endsleigh Division 1... Bob Bob, Bob Bob Bob Bob, Bob Bob Bob Bob, Bob Bob Bobby Bowry scored very early and the rest was quite dull from what I remember.
Heard a naughty song about Ian Wright. |
FA cup semi final v saints 1976

Away at Brum scum circa 1988. Won 1 nil with a goal which went in straight from a corner.
Remember loads of police dogs barking outside (like a scene from a concentration camp) and lots of Zulu graffiti. The men's loo consisted of three walls and a trench. Crap game |
