Room 101 for Xmas songs , and why

Wham last Xmas. Terrible lyrics and an even worse tune.
Slade merry Xmas everyone . Done to its absolute death.
Cliff Richard mistletoe and wine. Dreadful dirge .

I remember the slade one being sung at Ipswich away....late 70s I think(possibly) boxing day,and the whole end sung it ...******* brilliant.

Slade one is great.
Agree about Cliff though, also that horrendous diva Mariah Carey's one. And Wonderful Christmas Time by McCartney

Terrace Bickle 07-12-2017 09:28 PM

I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake is a classic, also anything Christmassy that Phil Spector produced.

Golf Boy 07-12-2017 09:30 PM

Mel and Kim.

Spindle 07-12-2017 09:34 PM

Dear Mariah, less is actually more.

Sorry SB. They are all dreadful and all need to be there. Its the whole point of this crappy overextended festive season , to hear all these shit songs over and over again.

Last Christmas is my joint fave song ever alongside Baby D Let Me Be Your Fantasy. Listened to Last Christmas about 8 times yesterday.

Oldtown Eagle 07-12-2017 10:22 PM

I wish it could be Christmas everyday. Just for the mere horrendous thought of it.

Good shout on Phil Spector.

I had the misfortune to hear Michael Buble's easy listening version of Darlene Love's wonderful Please Come Home For Christmas the other day. It is a disgrace.

The Macca one. Proper sack of condescending shite that took him two minutes to knock out, if that

Johnnieboy 07-12-2017 10:36 PM

If anyone suggests "Driving Home for Christmas" they will kill the festive season

Think you're a decade out! It was Boxing Day '87. We won 3-2 in a pulsating match and have to say singing that song is without doubt up there as one of my fondest Palace memories ever. It was just such a lovely moment due to the context. There was a real feeling at that point that we were about to embark on something truely special with Coppell pulling the strings and Wright and Bright leading the way - and we were right! The song's lyrics just seemed to chime and encapsulate the moment perfectly as we sang along all cramped together in the away end.

'So here it is Merry Christmas everybody's having fun
Look to the future now, it's only just be-gu-u-un!'

Ah no, that's what I meant, following the annual travels of Mr Rea is an essential part of the festive period :)
