Yeah I'd kind of forgotten about Phinney having thought about it before the crash. If he's not up to shape do they try and tow him round to preserve pink or cut him loose?

Green edge ought to do ok too, sky probably not got the best line-up for this but they won't be a million miles off.

Tomorrow's stage looks boring until the final 40km where there are a few blips. Will they be enough to drop the sprinters who will still have 10km of flat roads before the final sprint.




I'm already looking forward to Friday's stage which looks like a sort of Amstel Gold Race.

In answer to your question, not a chance - while there are more flat stages than last year, there aren't many and after the pile ups in Demark lots of teams will have something to prove and Sky will want to sort out their train if nothing else. Other than Cav, I'd expect Rabobank to feature - a Cav, Bos 1,2?

BMC did well to limit their losses after Phinney's pastoral interlude, Garmins much as expected but Rodriguez was probably the real winner today given Katusha's surprisingly good showing.

I agree with all of that. Watch out for Demaré who is a great prospect but who has already beaten some of the big hitters already.
The injury in fine had the better of the maglia rosa.

It should suit Cav down to the ground. There is a slight gradient in the last few kms but it's nothing really and the last 250m plateaus. And there doesn't look to be any turns. But we'll see how that crash may still affect him. The lumpy bit doesn't look lumpy or spikey enough and you'd imagine garmin will be all over everything as far as breakaways are concerned

Also, I'd imagine that anyone trying for a breakaway over that bit would be keeping their powder dry for the next day. There will be some breakaway riders but I'd imagine it would be the non-WT teams just getting their mugs on TV rather than serious efforts.

Although you could be right - I wondered when watching todya's stage whether the Mighty Thor might have been saving himself, but lots of riders will fancy their chances; but whoever it is it will be a hard day defending attacks for Garmin. Should be the best day so far.

You have me 'bang to rights'! I did waver about including him in my team (a bit of a cloud over him plus I've got an Astana rider) but couldn't pass up the value.

I do fancy him for this stage though, where are Sagan, Valverde, Gilbert? Not there. So he looks good for it.
