My next door neighbour (late 60's)asked my son last week if he could show her the basics. Here's what she wanted to know:

E-mail. Setting up an address etc. Sending. (He warned her of spam and never giving out bank details etc)

The weather forecast in Eastbourne. She has a caravan there, but others may have villas around the globe.

Reading the papers on line.

E-bay. Buying and selling. Setting up a pay-pal account. He said he could have done 8 hours on this!!

BBC gardening website.

Actually re email account.. I have had mine for ages (simply Yahoo prior to that freeserve) so have no real feel for who would be a good provider .. anyone got suggestions as to which provider would be best for them to use?

An entertaining thread (speaking as a 64 year old who would rather hear the Beach Boys sing about surfing than get called a silver surfer).

Some great ideas - Pookas examples are top notch - never get tired of watching Youtube - and N Herts Eagle is spot on with help in using Skpe, no mention of how to use a webcam here, that would important for some people. Has anyone mentioned lPlayer? That's excellent - whether it's BBC TV or radio or one of the commercial stations.

Forget about powerpoint, a bit of research on your audience wouldn't go amiss as the more you can get them to help one another the quicker they'll learn.

Cheers RoB and I like the suggestion re Iplayer .. going to be doing the research with them hopefully next week..basically it is a course for them , and there is so much I could cover, so best if I concentrate on what they actually want. Only going to work in groups of four or so, so it maybe possible that I can tailor it to each group. Should be fun...I hope!!

The thing to put over is that The Internet PC's Laptops etc in general is not the domain of checked shirt jean and jacket not shaved for a few days with a bag slung over like a school satchel types (Like a lot like to do to make out they are sooooo important) its actually a piece of piss.

Oh and a few spelling and typo errors really dont matter
