London Triathlon race pack came through the door today. First year that there's two different Olympic plus waves. Didn't realise the cheaper Tower Hill route would go off at noon in the afternoon heat, rather than the traditional cool 0630 wave. Shelled out a load of unneeded Royal foils on a hotel room. Boooo.

Anyone else signed up for this?

tyres not the newest but they're my race wheels so don't get ridden all the time. I suspect part of the problem was I didn't pump the tyre up as high as I might have done and that meant the sidewall was a little more prone to the little piece of metal that went in it. Just bad luck but a few others had punctures too so I suspect the roads were partly to blame.

First puncture in a race ever and my first in 3 years at all so I can't really complain.

What psi and tyres were they? I play safe with Vittoria Rubino Pro size 25 at no more than 110psi. Not the lightest or fastest rolling but do the job. If your experience is an average, then I'm due one.

I'm always amazed at the number of punctures that take place within a few kms into the big legs. The last one I did I saw a bloke dressed head to toe in Rapha gear changing an inner tube on a Specialised S-Works Ventage 100m into his journey. I tried not to smile going past on my BtWin Alur which cost 10% of his machine.

well i did the "Jenson Button Triathlon" over the weekend, not once but Twice!!!
it was a 200 mtr swim/6 mile bike/ 2.5 k run and to get a "medal" uyou had to do one in the morning and one in the afternoon;despite me NEVER having done anything like this i managed to do them both with a LOT of lessons learnt if i want ot carry on!!!

did 6:22 for the 1st swim:T1 was 3:26 (yes i know thats slow but im still learning!!) 25:14 for bike:T2 was 1:10 followed by 13:51 run....

in the afternoon i did 6:22 again T1 was 3:07 (and will get quicker!!) bike was 24:08 because i went for it more rather than trying to save energy for the run T2 was 56 secs and run was slower 15:08 which was expected as id tried harder in the bike 2nd time around!!!

imagine what i might do if i trained PROPERLY for another one which is currently planned for sept (Dorney?)

T1 will def get quicker, the swim might get quicker with more training and both bike/run will get quicker with m,ore training as ill get stronger!!

Glad u njoied it mate and sign up for Dorney now so you got no excuses not to do to it. You never know if you've trained hard enough until that run. Saying that, theres loads of inujury stores out there,, so take it easy and build up.

How much does such a super sprint event cost? I see some advertised for almost the same amount as some Olympic distances. Im such a tight wad, I'd rather do the olympic distances just to get 'value for money', but would be happy to do what you did every weekend for under 20 royal foils.

Completed the London Triathlon in Docklands last weekend. Very hot and windy conditions only made harder the Olympic Plus distance with the 80km bike section. Finished in 4:45 hours; 32 mins breaststroke, 2:40 hours bike and 1:10 hours run times.

Very happy to beat my little brother and win our small group of friends handicap times system. Only done a couple of bike runs and swims this year so like Ugly and fat says, what would happen if I trained PROBABLY?

Which will happen in the future as After collecting my medal, I promptly got dizzy and overheated. Ended up in an ice bath for 30 mins to bring down my temp and wired up to ECG machine for low blood pressure. Thanks to the dozen medics who looked after me Im still here and able to watch myself on the Channel 4 highlights show this morning.

London Duathlon at Richmond Park this coming Saturday - suddenly dawned on me that the last 'proper' bike ride i did was in the same race last year.. managed to get out on the bike today at lunch today and it wasnt too bad. Hoping that the stamina ive built up from marathon training over the summer will get me through.

Anyone else taking part?

Coming to the end of the tri season - and I'll be retiring from long distance events at next weekend's Ironman Barcelona. Probably. You always think, "hmm, maybe I've got one more in me!"

My first DNF at IM Barcelona.
PB on the swim, storming start to the bike - then went dizzy at about 45 miles and came off, tried to recover, no such luck, withdrew after 60 miles.
Not the sign-off I wanted. So maybe it won't be. Lessons to be learned, but I'll ponder that over the next few weeks. Still got my GB age group title for IM Cairns from last year to look back on!

I've done a few sprints and have always struggled on the day with the swim. I just cant get used to swimming in a wet suit. I find it far too restrictive and find i cant get my breathing right. This then tires me out too quickly as i don't think i get enough oxygen to my muscles.

I'm toying with entering the 2.2km swim (the entire lake at Dorney) at the end of June.

Would a Tri suit be better? Do they give you any extra boyancy? Despite me being a big fat bastard.

Assume you're using a proper triathlon wetsuit not a surfing one or similar.

For a majority of races in the UK you have to wear a wetsuit. That's typically worn over your trisuit or whatever. In warm water racing (like Kona) you can wear a swim skin which offers buoyancy but no legs/sleeves.

Can't get away from the fact though that if you're finding it restrictive the fit might not be right. As for breathing you just need to practice open water swimming often as poss.

Thanks. To be fair, im a pretty tight so have never spent a huge amount on a wet suit. Pretty sure they are meant for surfing so I'll have a look at a proper one.
