And my claim to fame was I set next to him on the plane when he came over to join Palace. I was oblivious until I was reading the Mail about what a coup it was to sign him, when I realised who my travelling companion was. Still have the signed paper in one of the boxes in the loft :-)

It was a long time ago and the old memory is a little hazy, but I remember being at the Phoenix festival with my brother and we saw in the paper that we were in for him but both pretty much dismissed it, we found out we'd signed him at Gillingham (but were we playing Brighton?) and I think it was Chris (Grim Reaper) who told us. Amazing player, and I love the stories that seem to show he still holds us in fond regard

As a Sampdoria fan I'd watched Lombardo, Mancini and Vialli etc. win them their only title back in '91 - he'd then gone on to great things at Juventus and here he was signing for PALACE! Truly brilliant signing. Had he not got injured we may have stayed up. Oozed class. I remember even taking a throw in he was class! The ball was on the ground during one home game but rather than pick it up he stamped on the side of it, creating enough spin for the ball to roll up his leg from the ground into his hands. Only time I've stood and applauded a throw in! ![]() ![]()

The One More Point book is underway....and only 12 years late. This will be a book about not just One More Point but a look at all fanzines and their impact. It will look at what it was like being a Palace fan and football fan back in the 80s/90s. If you have comments, memories or just to remind me some (most likely drunken) incident back in the day then please PM me. And if you can think of a decent title then please step right up! |

My favourite 'player song' by a mile. Leeds away my highlight. He tore them apart that day. Even the Leeds fans appreciated his class.

The goals in that Norwich game were unbelievable!!!
Such a shame we cocked it up that season...the makings of a good side but some very strange transfers before Goldberg ran outta cash.. |

20 years ago today Attilio Lombardo was named player-manager with Tomas Brolin as his faithful assistant. Remember the following day we went to Villa Park conceded after 2 mins and were 3 down by half time, 97/98 really was a car crash.

Remember the season starting well for us. Went downhill quickly.
