Have you read/seen The Shining?

The book is a massive pile of dung, whereas the film is nice and creepy.

And what about The Running Man? The film is well skill, the book is not.

I like the book and the film. The short story that Running man was very loosely based on, was a lot better than the film.

Free Fire - A Ben Wheatley shoot em up. An ams deal goes wrong in a warehouse with a bunch of people wearing flares. Cleverly choreographed and fairly gripping for the hour and a half it ran for. 7/10

Child 44

Tom Hardy

Unusual but very good and powerful film set in early 1950's Soviet Union. Won't reveal any spoilers but the juxtaposition of the real life Holomodor (Ukraine famine), NKVD (killer secret police) and a rather monstrous serial killer (Andrei Chikatilo he is based on) makes it fascinating.

8/10

Film Stars don’t die in Liverpool. A must see. Annette Benning & Jamie Bell are absolutely brilliant. Probably one of the best films I’ve seen this year.

Can’t believe the 5* reviews for The Florida Project. Some may enjoy it, but beware, most will not.

Speaking of The Shining I caught Killing of a Sacred Deer earlier this week and definitely found it rather reminiscent of Kubrick's film, most obviously the use of tracking shots and deadpan younger actors performances plus as ever from Yorgos Lanthimos the same black sense of humour.

Compared to The Lobster it feels like more of a return to his earlier work like Dogooth playing up the unsettling aspects to the maximum. Its not overly graphic(although the opening shot is a closeup of open heart surgery) by modern standards but its certainly not something to watch expecting a good time.

Just seen 'Murder on the orient express'
Didn't think I'd like it, because the Mrs watches the David Suchet one on TV.

Have to say was very impressed with the characters and special effects and cinematography

A real first class version (gets coat,....)

A Man Called Ove. Loved the book and really enjoyed the film. Gentle comedy with a few tear-jerking moments about a grumpy old man. Some lovely subtle Swedish humour. On Amazon Prime video with subtitles.

Stephen King very critical of the film which I think is one of the best horror films ever made. The scene is the toilets with Jack Nicholson and Delbert Grady is particularly chilling....

I saw this on Thursday. I though it was really good (lobster was crap).

Murder on the orient express - 7 out of 10; it was alright

The Death of Stalin - 4 out of 10; the only good thing about it was Paul Whitehouse as Stalin.

The political setting and, therefore, meaning, of the book are completely reversed fir the film. Ruins it.
