Was a good read, without the usual rock star excesses all the way through.
Yeah, I read this when it was first released but that was ages ago. I must read it again sometime.

Has many of the same characters as HDM, Pullman's ideas of daemons to represent human characteristics is so clever and brilliantly realised.

Our 10 year old daughter's middle name is Lyra. She hates it but she'll love it when she's older - hopefully!

It's good, finish it. The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov are worth reading too.

'Godsgrave', the sequel to 'Nevernight'. I enjoyed this one as well, preposterous, but good fun.

Finally got round to reading 'Marching Powder'. Read it over two nights, couldn't sleep, not just as a reaction to the subject matter, but also because it's a crazy story and I wanted to read it before the movie comes out.

Now onto something different... 'Deadly Messengers' by Susan May, simply because I couldn't decide upon anything else.

After giving upo on the never ending "Short History...." I have started on some of Garth Ennis' works in the comic genre. Read Preacher quite a while back but have now discovered "The Boys" series....which is superb.

it has taken a while due to me having a cold but i have finished American Gods, It was very good even though it isn't normally my kind of thing.

I am now reading two books which isn't something i normally do. I was lent a hardback copy of The Battle for Spain by Anthony Beever. I need to improve my sketchy knowledge of this time. I don't like taking hardback books to work so I am also reading Slam by Nick Hornby. I have read most of his books and there are generally easy to read.

For Beevor this is very dry, its one of his earliest books and I found it extremely dull. Good luck

Have been enjoying it greatly, about 3/4 of the way through and I was just starting to worry about the magic

I’ve finally finished reading ‘A Place of Greater Safety’ by Hilary Mantel. It is a truly great novel, one of the best I’ve read in many many years. She really captures how personal relationships affect politics, and how the revolutionaries created a monster that they could no longer control, so brilliantly and vividly. In my view this is a much better novel than ‘Wolf Hall’ or ‘Bring up the Bodies’.
