Sad fact is, despite playing well at times, we are not good enough. 4 goals all season and none away from home confirm this.

I have resigned myself to it weeks ago and now not as angry as I was. Season of total negligence in the weakest Premier League in many a year.
A "remarkable" prediction about a team flying high in the imaginary goals league and knocking on the door of a europa place in the what if cup for arrogant geniuses.

You are right. However the slither of hope is the next three games. We are a miraculous 7-9point run in the next three games away from 100% relegated in my opinion.

I am optimistic. However, it's certainly no forgone conclusion either way. I was going to lump on us to stay up after sunday - but the odds are terrible. I thought we were the 'worst premier league team' ever. So my optimism isn't misguided. The bookies rarely get it completely wrong, and the accurate statistics based % of relegation is /was still only 43%. We worse off than that last March, I think.

Massive 9 games ahead - including Arsenal at home. You cant win them all, but an unbeaten run will go a long way, and could turn into a winning habit.

Never stop believing. I pretty much did at HT against West Ham. Keep the faith, all the time the team is creating chances, it'll come.

I love your positivity Rambo, but doubt two successive wins will see us off the bottom with our goal difference, but after 8 games we could be out of the bottom three.

You are a good man. We'll know whether we have a fighting chance by new-year's day. The hard work to do this has to be done by Christmas.

Nobody should be resigned yet, the question will be better asked on December the 23rd after that Swansea game.

Yes that's how I'm looking at it. 8 winnable games. If we come out of that still bemoaning our luck and adrift, then the writing's on the wall.

All I'm wanting come Christmas is that even if we're still in the bottom 3, we've totally closed the gap on the teams above and it's basically an even fight with the bottom half to the finish.

We've lost 9 games so far but 5 of those losses have been 1-0. In each of those narrow defeats we have missed at least one golden opportunity. Benteke at Liverpool, Dann at Burnley, Cabaye (I think) against Southampton, PVA at Newcastle and Zaha at Wembley on Sunday.

It could be argued that opposition teams, especially away from home, know that one goal against us is all that is needed for the three points and they take the foot off the gas attacking-wise after the first goal. However all the chances listed above really should have been converted by players of Premier League standard and those five extra points would have put a totally different complexion on the league table. In fact taking those chances could have led to even more points as those games would have played out completely differently. In the Burnley and Spurs games, in particular we had a number of really good opportunities to score.

However I can't really decide whether we are nearly there and have been a little unfortunate so far, or whether the players as a group are just not of the standard required, and we are simply making excuses.

Palace due to injuries have hardly been able to field their best team yet and it does not take rocket science to see that not having key players has greatly weakened our team and when you add in that with them missing we have had to play 5 of the top 6 with 4 of those very difficult games being away from home you can see just how tough it has been for us so far.

However all is not lost as those games and hopefully the key players missing are behind us and teams we will be fielding a much stronger team soon and we can hopefully put this poor start behind us and get back to winning ways soon.

A poor start is all that it is at this stage and there are still 81 points to fight for in the remaining 27 games so already being resigned to relegation is quite frankly defeatist and ridiculous.

How can that possibly be true? We 'just' need 12 points from 8 games. Perhaps we win games 5-8 in the sequence.

We have one player injured - Benteke - so let's hope he has a transformational impact on the team, stating next week. If he doesn't then I guess we'll know that the squad just isn't good enough. Obviously really hope that won't be the case.

So it's 50 days to the window opening and we're on 4 points.
Three seasons we've stayed up having 16 points at Christmas.

This means we've gone into the new year in the past needing 22-24 points to ensure safety. Is it reasonable to assume we're perennials at this?

It's fine margins - maybe two or three points and the getting it wrong is frighteningly expensive. The difference this time around is that our goal difference is significantly worse than in the past. So if you are the owners at what level would you double up?

If we can get to 17 or so points or so (an extra one for the goal difference) it is perhaps worth going for it: It's 50 days or so for the window opening and to get there we need the equivalent of four wins and a draw. This will probably take us out of the bottom three and if it can be done we go into the second half of the season with momentum. This, along with reinforcements in January should propel us into the second half, where we need the equivalent of 7 wins and some draws, with a fighting chance.

If we can't get to 16/17 by the new-year's day then.....? How short of this do we have to be for the the owners to think it's worth the risk? 10? 15? There does come a point which if we don't get to where we accept relegation is more than likely and that it isn't worth the additional investment.

Easiest way to avoid this is to get the points before the new-year.

50 days to save our PL status.

We have an amazing run of fixtures up to the transfer window. No excuses. If the points don't come now they never will.

For a change there are any real crap team this year - just a lot of average teams. So, one mistake and you're in trouble - well, we made that mistake. And then made another.

Were not good enough to make up the difference and the others will swap a few wins against each other to maintain the gap.
