And just a nod to Adolf, (avoiding the 'he got the trains running on time', quip)

German engineering was ****** ace. The UK was a gnats chuff away from getting mullered.
And now we have BMW's, Adidas, Gola, Mercedes ad nauseum.
And football, well. We can still learn things from their set-up.

An influential young Air Ministry Officer, Sydney Bufton of the Directorate of Bombing Operations was tasked with putting a paper together to remedy the ineffective bombing results.

He was significantly younger (30's) than Harris and his Air Vice Marshalls (50's) and this exacerbated what was to prove a spikey and contentious relationship.

His paper and subsequent scheme demanded the establishment of a 'small force of highly skilled and determined crews who could locate, identify and illuminate the target, to act as both a beacon and an aiming point for following aircraft.' Crews selected would be of 'above average standard because their task required precise co-ordination, accurate timing and determination.'

Can we at least agree that the German's (Tirpitz, Bizmark) and the Japs ( Yamato, Musashi) had the most sexy battleships. I also think the Prinz Eugen did well to end up at bikini atoll.

One of PE's props is at the Naval Memorial Museum at Laboe. A big beast.

Never been a fan of the pocket Battleship. I prefer lots and lots and lots and lots of guns, of all calibre.

Itís overwhelming force and ability to defend from air attack that I would like. No subtlety!

Jap or US on that basis, for me.

I'm not so sure about that either. Goering changed tactic because he was running out of time and the other reason, him being an idiot unable to see that his airforce was not fit for purpose. It was great with an army to support, but alone not so good. Regarding the aerodromes, they were very hard to put out of action and rather easy to fill in the holes made by the bombs, so were quickly operational. For example, despite the frontline aerodrome of Manston being struck in pinpoint raids by Erpro.210 as well as level bombing, it was never out of action. There were also intelligence failures, with Eastchurch on Sheppey getting a regular pounding, but that was a Coastal Command base and not used by the RAF.

Concerning Radar, there were serious raids on CH stations but at significant cost, and the towers were very hard to damage. Nonetheless they did take some of the stations out believing that they were totally destroyed, only for the British to plug the gaps with mobile units and repair the damage. Ventnor was hard hit but was fully online inside a month. Because of this the Germans decided it was not worth further expense attacking them. This lack of understanding of the system was significant because further pressure may have worked, we do not know, but we weren't ever close to being blind.

Dowding's staff argued over strategy but they did not have Ultra and Dowding, to his credit, never let on. He may have adjusted had we lost RDF anyway.

And of course both Spitfires and Hurricanes could take off and land on grass with relative ease.

Hitler's all-conquering stormtroopers 'felt invincible because of crystal meth-style drug Pervitin' - The methamphetamine-based drug Pervitin was manufactured from 1937 onwards by the Nazis*and distributed among the armed forces

After having tried it in 1939 during the German invasion of Poland, the German army subsequently ordered 35 million tablets of Pervitin for soldiers before advancing on France in the spring of 1940.

The invasion of France shocked the world. In four days, Hitlerís tanks captured more French territory than German troops had managed to secure in four years of the First World War. Pervitin helped the invading Nazis stay awake, keep going and, apparently, feel great.

What does that have to do with GB being within a gnats chuff of being beaten in the BofB?
