European Super League

Probably AATOT somewhere back but thought it worth raising again with the ludicrous Van Dijk transfer.

With the obscene amounts of money sloshing around in the top ends of football at the moment and the increasing focus on marketing overseas against local community representation, I for one can not wait for the inevitable European Super League to come into play. Find it difficult to get on board with the Premier League train and the sooner the big 5 (can't see Spurs being a part of it!) break away and leave the better IMO. Football can go back to the fans and clubs can begin to represent their communities a lot more whilst the Football League might just become a competition again rather than a process of treading water and feeding off the scraps of the elite clubs.

Will be interesting to see when this does happen as I am sure it is an inevitability, and what it would mean for clubs such as ours who are left over. Can't imagine there would be a great deal of clamour to snap up the TV rights to the remaining clubs so would imagine the money would tail off somewhat. Would be interested as well as to what it would mean for the domestic cups and whether a renewed European Cup (knockout as per the old days) would begin. Bring it on I say!

Wenger reckons it’s inevitable and that it will be implemented in the next few years with Premier League games moved to midweek. Can’t see it myself

Super.

FIFA running competitive sport like a business for themselves, thus ruining the competitiveness, and potentially ruining the business part too.

This - be it the Super League idea or this idea - will tank when fans drift away, leaving FIFA with investors paying for an uninteresting tournament and then no investors. It'll last a few seasons, the novelty will be fun for a bit, then a team used to winning their own league will not be anywhere close (more so in a Super League) and even those who do end up winning it over and over lose interest - see some Man City's attendances - more so if they have to give up or move their domestic league commitments to do this.

At that point it would be nice for the respective Premier League equivalents to tell them to sod off.
