Murray's goal at Old Trafford in the cup? Can't remember if it should have been given offside.

Yeah I think it was slightly offside, but to be fair, Ambrose’s goal should’ve counted as two.

West Ham had a reasonable claim for a penalty in the play-off final for a challenge by Liegertwood. I thought it was impossible to be certain at the time but it's conceivable that it might have been given on review.

Yeah the papers loved that. Remember the following day, instead of celebrating a fabulous achievement they had a picture of that tackle with the headline, ‘The £10m mistake’ or words to that effect.

My memory of it was that he gave a fairly substantial shove to the player standing in front of him, who then couldn't jump for the ball. This is quite common (and GM is particularly good at it) but if the shove is slight it is never given. However, on this occasion it was more obvious than normal.

I have a vague memory from god knows when of a Walsall defender punching a shot round the post at the Holmesdale end. After the game the defender said he was a bit handy with his head. Could have been in the 'we want Whittle' days.

Anyone else remember that?

I think this thread shows that VAR should be resisted at all costs

We'd basically be AFC Palace now. FA Cup win and much of the past 15 years in Non-League.

Now bare in mind it can only be used for goals, penalties, straight red cards and mistaken identity.

I’ll start with this:

1990 FA Cup Final Replay.

1st half 0-0. Thomas is scythed down by Brian McClair a yard inside the penalty box. The referee deems the contact outside the box and gives us a free kick. VAR would’ve awarded us a penalty and that cup may well have been ours and history very different for Man U and Fergie.

Out of interest; I wonder who would’ve taken the penalty? Andy Gray? Thomas had missed one in the Liverpool 9-0 in September that season so doubt he would’ve. Can’t remember another penalty we got that season.
He was hacked down 2 or 3 yards inside the box. You can tell that by looking at where the huge chunk of turf had been gouged out.

One of the most disgraceful decisions in a cup final and yet the papers the next day could only talk about how dirty we were - by which they mean we didn't roll over when the mancs got up to their usual aggressive tactcis

Conor Wickham’s early disallowed effort in our last FA cup final against Moan U, can’t see much wrong with that - not sure VAR is even allowed for that review ?

The advantage rule allows the referee to make a subjective judgement as to whether an advantage exists. Which is exactly what that cheating prick knew when he hauled play back as we had a clear goal scoring opportunity.
