RE: The Human League - Don't You Want Me isn't even the best song on Dare. Love Action, for one, is much better

Saw them play in Birmingham a couple of years ago - they put on a pretty good show and started with one of my favourite tracks, Being Boiled. I was surprised at how good Phil Oakey's voice sounded - and how bad the voice of Joanne Catherall still was. Susan Sulley was just about ok.

Agreed - not my usual listening stuff, but their second album Once Around The World was excellent. Also some of Frank Dunnery's solo material is very good.

Their frontman Peter Perrett brought out a new album last year called How The West Was Won, his first in about 22 years it's well worth a listen, probably my album of the year for 2017.

It just means radio stations aren't allowed to play them. Radio X would love to play She Shook me Cold instead of Man Who Sold the World, Magic FM would much prefer to put out Quicksand or Bewley brothers rather than life on mars, and Absolute FM might actually prefer to air Jo the Lion for a change rather than Sound and Vision. But they're not allowed to. These songs are protected and left for us to discover ourselves in the form of paying to access their back catalogues.
Everyone knows that Bowies best work was The Laughing Gnome.

For me it has to be Midnight Oil. They are only known for Beds are Burning. I've got at least 4 albums of theirs. Although very political some of their songs are just superb and seeing them last summer in Hammersmith for the first time in 30 odd years was a massive walk down memory lane for me.

Other than the word 'much' I agree. LA is in my favourite 3 songs by any band.

Itís a matter of taste really. Whilst Pablo Honey (the album Creep is on) is a fairly standard grunge album, listen to the rest of their stuff and itís a completely different band, who youíll either think is brilliant or pretentious, (in Noel Gallagherís words, ĎIf Thom Yorke fvcking shit into a light bulb Ö itíd get 9/10í). I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Parachutes was a beautifully conceived album, before Coldplay decided that the best way to be big and stay big was to write anthemic, stadium hits.

When I saw this thread I immediately thought this too
'Don't You Forget About Me' wasn't even their song, some company songwriter did it, and it was intended for recording by someone else.

Of course people say their early stuff is the best, but also the stuff after '85 was much better than Don't You Forget About Me.

Still a very good live band now. The 5x5 tour a few years ago was superb.

Ultravox are another example, their best songs came out before Midge Ure joined the band.
