But what about Brenda and Clive who’ve had their seats for 20 years?! Them love them seats they do.

Surely the best answer is to plan the rail seating into the design of the new main stand. That way the HF could have the best view, from the half way line and they could bang their drum right behind the directors' box.

The atmosphere has deteriorated this season in my opinion, it's been an awful season, people can accept bad luck with injuries but I feel that people have been ground down by frustrating decisions by the owners and feel let down, certainly the manager had been. It's all taken it's toll.

For any of this to happen it would need a change in Government legislation. Maybe the club/FA/Football League were lobbying for the law to be changed, but currently, people are not allowed to stand at all seater stadia. CPFC cannot act unilaterally. While the HF and others do stand and attract publicity for their noise, flags and atmosphere, they are currently not in the main view of the TV cameras.

To have moved them to block E, displacing other supporters who probably have the best view in the Lower Holmesdale, could have been considered a PR disaster as the club presently want the council to grant planning permission for the new main stand and that same council has to licence the ground for use knowing that a group of supporters would be standing illegally in full view of everyone.

I find it hard to believe that legislation to allow safe standing will be done imminently as this Government currently has some bigger issues to solve.

Maybe we will get that change in the law around the time the new main stand is built so there will be a less enforced change of viewing and peace and love can return to the BBS.

I agree: another season of scrapping around at the bottom of the table, another season of unfulfilled promise both on the pitch and from the board, another season of "if only...".

It's taking its toll on the majority of fans who are usually upbeat and positive about the club's prospects - you only have to read these boards to see that. We're most of us suffering some sort of "supporter fatigue" and are just holding on and hoping for the least worst outcome to the season.

It's not surprising that the atmosphere has suffered - though it's worth saying that it's still far better than at many other clubs: just look how toxic things are at Arsenal for example - and I'd cautiously venture that they are in a far better state than we are at the moment.

Thing is, I do believe that matters could turn around in a fairly short period of time if things improve on the pitch: get Zaha and some of the other long term injuries back, Benteke miraculously finds his scoring boots again (!) and we go on a late late run of form up the table (we all know that even a few wins could move us up into the top half) - and just watch the noise levels increase and the atmosphere improve.

Can only see it going further downhill that is why I thought the club would go for a singing section, even if things pick up supporter fatigue will kick in at some point as we battle for mid table/relegation every season. The best we can ever hope for is finishing 8th-10th in the league.

Signing a few exciting players in the summer might help. Can always make the whitehorse end a singing section the season after next with some forward planning and luck with staying up two more times.

Don't see why there would be any need for rail seating if they left the seats unlocked. It would mean a one person to one seat ratio unlike im Germany, but as it is now there's nothing stopping you from standing in your seat I don't think this would change.

If so the board should be careful what they wish for... how long before the newly-vocalised Lower Tier starts singing 'Sack the board, Parish Out'?

This post is a bit "elephant in the room". I was hoping the club had made some progress on this behind the scenes but reading their latest response it looks like just another poorly advised **** up from start to finish.

I emailed the Sports Minister, Tracey Crouch in 2016 about the governments stance on safe standing and the response was completely negative, I.e. No change. Of course this was before their near election disaster so they may be open to discussion more now, although you usually hear about it in the press. If I can find the email I'll post it on here.

Quite possibly.

No-one wins here. The only losers are the club for the shocking levels of communication, which continue to amaze. And the players for missing out on what sounded like a much-needed boost for the home atmosphere at Selhurst.

There is no doubt that plans for a singing section that all Palace fans could be part of would’ve been exactly what the club needed as other clubs overtake us and ours gets worse each year.

I can understand some fans not wanting to move their seats – but this may well have to be weighed up and accepted one day if it’s deemed best for the club and done in a way that looks after those who’ve been with the club for years. A section open to all Palace fans that’s for the good of the club is hard to argue with – and I’m sure as other clubs continue to introduce similar moves, we’ll see the real need to make it happen.

People rightly kicked off not knowing what was happening – and a shame to see vitriol aimed at others when no-one actually knew what was going on in the first place.

It’s imperative that any future move keeps everyone happy with proper communication and assures loyal fans that they’re valued and can renew with minimal disruption. Only then can we think about getting the Palace atmosphere back to where it should be and offering everyone the chance to be involved.

Shame as I really think Selhurst could do with a shake-up and this could have been a really positive move. Oh well we can always hope for next season.

Only then can we think about getting the Palace atmosphere back to where it should be and offering everyone the chance to be involved.
well thought out, reasoned post.

Why are you so offensive to loyal Palace fans? How would you feel if you were kicked out of your seat?
