Innit. What's the point? It just seems to be them fulfilling some obligation and it's not like we have to confirm anything in the emails. Just a lot of bollocks.

Of course it's fulfilling an obligation. GDPR.
Have you been living under a rock?
It's a great opportunity to divest yourself of all those useless communications from companies you bought one item from six years ago.

This. If you transact with them again, the new policies will apply to you anyway. Plus, I'm beginning to suspect that some firms are using this to create relationships that didn't previously exist. I've received GDPR notices from companies in Italy and Germany (in those languages) that I am confident I have never done any business with so if you are minded to respond to these requests, make sure you know who they are from.

best is to ignore all such emails. If you get one later you can act all outraged and demand free stuff

Some of the ones Iíve received only have a click through opportunity to indicate that I want to continue with them.

So if Iíve decided to drop them, I ignore the email. As a consequence, these are now emailing me daily with panicked reminders to submit my agreement to continue.

I do hope that after this week, they will finally b***er off.

As others have said, Iíve had a few emails from companies I donít remember dealing with, so Iíve treated these as spam and will continue to junk these mails without responding.

With GDPR - surely companies that hold PPI with you - should be contacting you ?

Or am I getting confused?

Most people are totally misunderstanding GDPR. For example, if you've previously signed up to receive emails from someone, they don't need to get you to agree again - they already have your consent. Similarly, they don't need your consent to send you emails related to a service you have with them - ie purchase confirmations. So most of the panic isn't needed.

You've got that very wrong.

Giving someone your email address is simply that. It does not mean they have consent to use it in any way they wish. That's really the whole point of the sodding thing.

I feel your pain. Well, mine actually.

It has just taken me 40 minutes to walk what normally takes 15, and I had to get 2 people to help me stand up earlier.

ICO have given very clear guidance around the use of email addresses. If you can't demonstrate consent under one of the 6 legal bases for processing, you must gain explicit consent before using the email address.

It may be they obtained the right consent initially, the real issue is they can't demonstrate you did now to the GDPR standard.

I agree loads of companies have got loads of things wrong tho.

Im turning 36 soon and can't play basketball even for a scrimmage anymore because of back pain after a couple of jumps.

Recovery time followed by all the right exercises at the gym just makes me think I can play next time.
