English football, best in world ???
anyone here got on any views on it.
i personally think that the divide in class between the english & scottish premier leagues is definately closing. although the english league still has the edge, i dont see how they can say that the 'Premier League is the best in world'. there's no way as much tactical nous as in seria a, or the variety in Spain. it beats me how people can bang on about how the english league is the best, most entertaining league in the world when it's been so comprehensively dominated by one team for a decade. |

Not much difference between the English and Scottish leagues...You have to be kidding! If Rangers and Celtic were in the Premier league I'd be surprised if they would finish any higher then mid table.
The English game is by far the most exciting to watch,It's fast and furious and the skill level is as high as anywhere in the world. The Spanish game is also great to watch but serie a is sooo boring because of all the stop starts(from all the diving) I guess I'm going to get slated from all the Italians now... THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS THE BEST IN THE wORLD!!! |

I don't really care which one is the better, that's just up to each and everyone to judge. I like English football best not because it's oh so great, but I think it's the most entertaining, with the Spanish league and also the French one up there. That's what football is, entertainment! As for Serie A I agree with last post, it's very often very boring.
I also think that English div. 1 matches can be more entertaining than watching the big games in the Premier League, as the best teams usually are too careful, too afraid of losing. Often the pace of the game in division 1 is more than the players actually can handle, but that just makes the games more entertaining from my point of view. The game then flows from one end to the other instead of for instance that booooring Liverpool-way... Entertainment, that's what it's all about!! |

I think when they mean the best league in the world - the premiership is talking about entertainment, the game is faster, more goals, more mistakes.
In terms of technical ability and quality - La Liga is streets ahead. Three in the last four of the euro champs last season and again 3 in the last four of the quarters. Italian league has been in the past and will be again - its in transition |

I'd like to echo some of the above posts - other countries' football just seems boring in comparision to English football. two teams who want to go at eachother from the off, e.g.a classic FA Cup match is easily the best for entertainment IMHO.

So starting the season and knowing that Man Utd are going to win the league once again is exciting???? Just because we have the best defenders in the world doesn't make Serie A boring. I mean if I'm looking for comedy I'll watch a Premiership game, if I'm looking for skill and excitement I'll watch La Liga, but if I want to see pure class I'll watch Serie A! I have to say this year has been one of the best in the history of Serie A in my opinion. Roma are top of the league with an 8 point lead, but we've seen many times before (the past two years are perfect examples) that the title will go down to the last day and probably go against Roma if we look to the past. Theres also been new teams battling at the top like newly promoted Atalanta who were 2nd for much of the campaign and have just now started to slip (its just a shame that the big clubs are poaching their young players, watch out for the likes of Donati, Rossini, Pellizioli, and the Zenoni brothers, they will be world stars!) as well as Udinese and Bologna who have both done well but are slipping now. Its a shame Serie A has been dominated by scandal this year (Passports, betting, doping, blaming chickens for positive drug tests, etc) or it would have been even better. Sadly there is too much at stake in Serie A now and it will go into dicline as it already has with al lthe teams trying to find some secret about their rivals so to get them in trouble in some way or another. Still Torino are back in Serie A next year so its all going to be ok ![]() Serie A is and always will be the best. Premiership is only good becuase of the foreign managers and players!!!! |

Don't get me wrong,I'm not doubting the skill level of the Italians at all. What I was saying is that it is way too slow and not very entertaining to watch. I don't like the fact that Man U seem to win the premiership every year but people used to say the same sort of things about Liverpool, remember???. It seems to go in spells in England and I'm sure over the next few years it will be either Leeds or Liverpool lifting the trophy. Also what about the feats of a team like Ipswich this year,in contention for the champion league spot when everyone thought they would hardly win a game???and Marcus Stewert is top scorer in the league. |

I think that the Premier league is regarded as the best because it is the most exciting. We cannot deny that despite the higher skill levels overseas. Because we have been brought up on this type of game, we will always agree.
I'll never forget a comment made by Rodney Marsh a number of years ago, (when Best and Moore were playing at Fulham). He was brought to Selhurst with a view to coming to Palace. He was asked whether he could slow the game down to expose the real skills. His reply was that Pele couldn't slow it down. The same is true today. The Pemier League is the best in the World, but when it comes to World Cups we have to be the most skillful and we are a long way from that. |

Do they dont have foreign managers as its not allowed! When Erikkson was "manager" at Lazio officially his assistant was the manager and he was the assistant, obviously its an easy problem to overcome but at the moment in Serie A there are no foreign mangers. As for foreign players I'm not denying that there aren't foreign players but it is much less of a problem than in England. In Serie C (like the second/third division here) only Italian players are allowed, however this rule may soon change due to all these EU laws, etc. If you look at the Premiership all the top teams have foreign managers: Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds. And most of these teams (Arsenal mainly) have foreign players. Would Arsenal have doen as well as they have if they didnt have the Serie A rejects such as Viera, Henry, Kanu, Bergkamp????? Face it, the Premiership is full of Serie A rejects, and sadly for you it is these players that make the Premiership good, stop living in a dream world! |

I think English football is the most entertaining/exciting...I live abroad and have some Italian mates who think our football is more exciting. They think that their league is more technical but this makes it boring.

What about if I keep watching the Premiership and you keep watching Serie a and we agree to disagree because this argument is getting quite old and boring...much like an Italian league game |

No I don't really have a view on this debate because it is pointless. Ideally FIFA should organise a "World Leagues Cup" tournament to sort this out once and for all but that would just cause more fixture chaos. I couldn't be bothered to argue the case of the English Premiership against the Italian Serie A or Scottish Premiership right now because Palace are not in the Premiership so I don't care. I have no interest in Italian football because I don't support any of the teams, except that I hope that Lazio and Juventus both get stuffed and would laugh in the unlikely event that any of them ever get relegated.

When you say 'English Football', did you mean the league or national squard?
If you meant the league, there is little doubt that the Premier League is the most exciting and entertaining one on this planet. It would be my No.1 choice if i had to choose one league to watch. However, if you meant national squard, then I would not say English Football is the ''first class''. I always believe that the performance of national team reflects the level at whcih the national football is. Having watched all the England matches for the last 3 years, it just seems to me that English football is not as good as people would like it to be. I am sure that you would say French League and Italian League are not as exciting as English Premier League, but you look at their national team's performance in comparison with England, you would have to admit that they are better sides. In my opinion, English football is technically poor and physically strong and that doesn't help a lot nowdays. |

I agree but with players like gerrard,J cole,Ashley cole,Lampard,Carrick,Brown,Ferdinand,Smith,Barry etc coming through and the management of Eriksson we can adapt. It's already started in the european competitions. People will be running scared of us in the next few years.

Sorry Marco but Serie A has had its day. Their clubs have been outdone by both Spanish and English in the last 2 years and most of their stars are beginning to age. As you pointed out yourself the league is also beset by scandal and dropping attendences.
