Haha yeah those south coast ones can't be done without a stopover or some late flight from Gatwick. Carlisle need to get their finger out too.

Calling it now.
That is certainly how we have been playing. The alternate is that we go for the good old infant school tactic of everyone one chase after the ball. 1 - 10.

Only question mark there would be on the fitness of CB in which case Sorloth will slot in.

Fulham, barely have an 18 yet. (According to their own website they have in their 1st team squad 1 goalkeeper, 5 defenders, 7 midfielders and 4 forwards)

Just to stay level with last season we need to replace Cabaye and Loftus Cheek in addition to which we need another striker, midfield player and winger.

And in reality, that’s actually a good thing. Someone posted above that a lot of the work has been getting rid of old “deadwood” - Delaney, Lee, and fringe players on too high wages - for all his good spell that is Sako, plus Mutch loaned out until Xmas.

Our form late in the season was excellent, with just two of that group no longer here - RLC who may yet be back, and Cabaye who does need replacing regardless of how we play. If Kai Kai and Williams are replacing Sako and Lee in the squad for one season as a short term approach to see if they can cut it, that is a big reduction in wages and zero fees. Players in those two roles would normally get minimal starting times, just bench time on a pretty sporadic basis. The same was probably the plan with Jach for Delaney, but that may not work out.

At our level, a core group of around 18-20 first teamers, backed up with a few emergency cover players (like Kai Kai & Williams) seems logical.

Not a bad side really. Just will have almost nothing to bring on from the bench to change a game in midfield:

Bench: Hennessey, Ward, Dann/Kelly, Ridewald, Puncheon, Sorloth, Williams? Kaikai?

Just two good loans. One centre mid, one winger. Easier said than done. But that is the challenge we are faced with.

Not enough. We can at least afford one permanent signing to replace Cabaye. Otherwise we will be in the same position next season.

Very little strength in depth, plus cabaye & RLC being replaced by two weaker players in Macca & Sclupp.

However it’s the injuries that we are likely to get through the season that concerns me, with us having to call on Jairo, punch & JW to start games, assuming they are fit as well!

The new signings may well be on the bench. As a minimum they would have been involved in training on Friday and they should be relatively fit having had pre-season at previous clubs.

Agree it's a decent side. My concern is we've always had injury problems and many of the clubs in and around us (West Ham, Leicester, Soton, Wolves, Brighton, Huddersfield, Watford) are making significant moves in the transfer market.

and a Central defender , we have Sakho , Tomkins and Kelly ( good chance first two will miss quite a few games ) . Dann has been out since xmas and hasn't played since . Jach appears to be leaving and is not good enough for first team

West Ham have made some big moves and have also lost a very influential player in Lanzini.

Leicester have also lost one of their best players in Mahrez and their back-up keeper and replaced them with Ward and Maddison. They have added Evans where Huth has left and Pereira. Whilst the incoming signings look pretty good they have lost a huge source of their goals.

Southampton have finally tried to replace VVD, they replaced Tadic with Elynouissi and the signing of Gunn looks a good one. They are probably stronger but start from a very very poor base and were lucky to survive last season.

Wolves have spend a lot of money to get the team they had last year back for this year as most of the players bought were there on loan last season. Patricio looks an improvement in goal and will be interesting to see how Sportings compensation claim plays out.

Brighton have signed a lot of players, including 1 they will loan out straight away. Would only have been interested in us signing 1 of them (another is a decent prospect in a position we don't need).

Huddersfield like Wolves have spent most of their money buying the players who were on loan last season. A striker with no real scoring record in France and a winger who struggled to get a place in the Stoke team.

Watford have signed Deulefeu who was on loan last year too and apart from that they are usually active in briging in lots of players hoping a few pay off. They will become more active if/when the Richarlison deal goes through.

I would disagree that the any of those clubs (West Ham excepted) have made significant moves in the transfer market. They have signed players but mostly to stand still and just a few players in there who have really strengthened them. All but Leicester start from a position of finishing below us last year.

The argument is that we are weaker and have slipped behind them that way but many of us hope that we will plug the 2 major holes in the first team and then maybe a player or 2 to strengthen the squad behind that. If we do that then the business done so far by the teams mentioned does not look too worrying at this stage. Obviously depends if they do more business in the window too.
