Indeed.

Article clearly articulates the background to our spending and why we are currently in the tighter position re dosh than we should be if we didn’t have a succession of managers coming and going. Nicely - and professionally - written I thought. Assume by, you know,, a trainee journo rather than by a 20year old fan for an amateur online site.

Itís a decent article and makes a few good points, but also wraps in some glaring errors. Delaney is NOT a loss, even in depth while Sako contributed nothing after Xmas and precious little for most of his time. It ignores us making profits on Gayle, Mandanda and McCarthy plus making money on the declining Jedinak.

The whole buy low sell high also baffles me. Right now, we could probably make decent profits on Townsend, PVA, Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, McArthur and Luka - but why would we? And why would the fans want us to? Right now we need stability or a season or two.

It lists some players on the fringes from last season, or who in Benteke's case had a poor year last year but ignores that Benteke scored 15 league goals the year before, or that Tomkins, Van Aanholt, Milivojević, Townsend, Sahko and Cabaye were all bought by other mangers but key players for Hodgson last season. This doesn't make the article wrong, it was just looking at things from one direction.

But he didn't suggest Delaney is a loss and as regards sales he mentioned an initial fee of £10m.

As regards buy low sell high I don't think he was suggesting for a club of our size paying £10m plus which was the case for the players mentioned other than McArthur.

I don't agree either that managers have been "saddled" with their predecessors' signings. Pardew's were mainly s***e but we can hardly feel "stuck" with Milivojevic, van Aanholt, or Schlupp; the two loanees last season were useful although Fosu-Mensah did get upstaged by Wan-Bissaka; and Sakho was bought in permanently despite de Boer, not because of him. Riedewald too will be useful to Hodgson.

Also BTW we haven't been spending "European money". Our top transfer fees have been about £30m: Champions League contenders spend far more than this on players of similar importance to them, e.g. compare Sakho at £30m with van Dyck at £75m.

The 25 is irrelevant really. How many sides play 25 players regularly. Especially if you have a couple of 1st team players under 21 a squad of 20-21 is what you are actually going to use.

Also ignores the likes of Williams and KaiKai who will need to be named so it is more than 1 in.

His words on Delaney said that over 100 appearances were cut by the departures of Delaney, Cabaye, RLC, TFM and Sako, hence we have less scope for rotation. Last time I looked Delaney had about 3 or 4 last year, Sako very few and none after Xmas and TFM very few after AWB came through. They arenít really impacting rotation and fans would have been seriously pissed if we rotated Sako for Wilf or Delaney for Tomkins.

On the £10m fee, fair enough, but a awful lot of the undiscovered gems earning large profits have come via the Championship eg Maddison rather than the PL.

Southampton have sold mostly academy products for large fees - good luck to them, but I wouldnít want us to sell Kirby or AWB anytime soon.

Couple of errors in it i think (like Benteke scoring 5) but paints a pretty accurate picture i think. It is rather pessimistic though.

With the recruitment and sacking of managers comes huge 1 off costs. If Roy is with us come May we will have saved £5-10m from our expenditure in the last couple of season on the manager alone, without considering their wider teams.

The wage bill has been growing year on year however at this point we are spending a significant amount less on wages than we did last and new signings may only take that to similar levels. Painting a picture of little money is not necessarily a bad thing to do in the transfer window.

People worry about having 25 players in the squad but why? Each of them is taking a wage, £17k a week is £1m a year when you factor in NI.

28 players played in the PL for Palace last year, 4 of whom were U21 and did not need to be named. So we only used 24 over 21 players i think. On top of that 4 of the over 21 players (plus 1 U21) played twice or less. Suddenly you are down to 20 players over 21 last season.

We don't need to pad the squad out for the sake of it.

It is a good read, but a little sensationalist in places.

It seems that our wages to turnover ratio is our albatross and the last couple of windows show a side that are seeming to redress the balance. The squad is thinning out (it needed to, financially speaking) and we have a wily character in Roy who not only is unlikely to throw his toys out of the pram, but may just be one of the few capable of allowing us to hold onto our PL status whilst we lift the burden of past profligacy.

I think the enthusiasm and naivety of our ownership following an unexpected promotion is paving way for greater pragmatism. Rather than viewing it as the start of things falling apart, I view this as us self-administering some needed medication.

Hope we are not going all out for rlc he isn't what we need

We need now a defensive midfielder with height as we are a shortish team these days

And still a fast nimble forward

And an attacking midfielder

At the least three new players none of them have to be marquee type signings more 10-15 million types

That's where you get the best value eg cabaye townsend tomkins not at the 25 million plus level like benteke and sakho

We would usually have 2 CB's, Luka, and CF all over 6 ft tall. A couple of the players we are looking at (supposedly) would add additional height too.

Compared to a few teams in the league we have decent height and compared to others we are a lot better on the deck. Think we are pretty well balanced at present.

Right random text but bugger it, Iím sitting on the side of the road with tooth ache having snuck out from Les Miserables leaving my bird to suffer.
Iím in NZ constantly on the BBS reading all you fellas post your opinions and thoughts on the great CPFC.
Iím not gonna bang on, but Iím a Iím a big long term fan whoís flown all over to see our boys and Iím in the mood to chuck me 5p in.
Forgive me. Iím 2 thirds into a bottle of good gin.
Weíve got a good team and squad right now as I see it.
Yes a few key players have left, but nothing extraordinary. Obviously we need 1/2 inputs to the midfield which Iím sure will be fixed. Our owners arenít completely clueless.
With all due respect I really enjoy reading all of you banter, argue, and discuss everything that is palace but some of it is absolute pant wetting bollocks. Itís not how youíd talk to your mates so why vent it on here? Yep fair enough itís easy. And to be honest i(and plenty of others Iím sure) love reading you arseholes talking shit.
Itís my small connection back to all you fellas back in the motherland.
If we can sign a couple of standup midfielders that have graft and a modicum of talent, donít get injured at the drop of a pin then sweet. Everyoneís being a bit fussy. Weíre Palace. Letís not forget who we are and where we come from. Iím ******* stoked I can watch us on tv in NZ. 6 years ago I couldnít. If we stay up each year I celebrate like itís my 30/40/50th......
Anyway enough boring drunken rant, Iím getting another gin, but,
Long Live Palace!!!!!!
Weíre ******* great and some of you have forgotten that!!!!!
Donít stop posting, none of you I love the banter, itís gold dust to an expat, god bless you all.
Cheers
