I have, but I would still be disappointed at not getting Nugent. What do you think I would say 'Oh Brilliant. We dont need him now so it doesnt matter on bit'

No, I'd expect you to now come to your senses now and say "oh well - 4 million is a silly price to pay for him anyway".

Can we get DM loves Nugent t-shirts printed up ?

The wealthiest Premier League clubs are always capable of out-
bidding all Championship clubs for the best players available.

Past experience shows that big clubs will tend to let the less
affluent clubs start the bidding to enable the market to reach
a more realistic level and then move in for the kill.

Once the eventual transfer fee has been reached, often with
more than one potential buyer there will then be competition
between the interested clubs over the player's new contract
and salary level.

If Preston can afford to, they will try and hold out for the high-
est possible bid for as long as they can, then, provided Nugent
agrees to move to a bidding club and accepts their offer of a
new contract, he will be on his way!

We may all realistically rest assured that the successful club
in a Nugent auction will NOT be CPFC!

Yes but he has also said that they want to keep him! You can be sure that if we were the only club in for him that they would be doubling there efforts to try and keep him, how bad would it look seeling there star man to a promotion rival? At least by selling to a Prem team, the Preston chairman won't get abuse of the Preston fans, he'll be able to use the usual "oh, we wanted to keep him but we couldn't stand in his way". Some people on here that thought no Prem clubs would be in for him need a reality check.

If this is true then it's completely out of our hands and there's nothing we can do about it. He wants prem football unfortunately and we are not in a position to offer it.

Hopefully this is hot air though. He doesn't sound like a signing to appeal to Redknapp and as Dave suggested, I'm sure he would prefer to sign players who will "benefit" him in other ways.

Also, you have to remember that Pompey/Harry are always being liked with players, but how many of them do they actually sign?

Unfortunately that report actually confirms that they are moving for Nugent. The other striker is someone they are trying to offload.

I don't think we will get Nugent. I think our first choice is Carl Cort.

Nowhere in the article does it suggest Pompey are after a striker other than Nugent. Doesnt matter how far you read into the article.

I think the original poster believed pompey were after Dario Silva, not trying to ge rid of him.

I think Pompey are after anyone really. They have also been linked with this morning Nikola Zigic in the press.

obviously we are seriously interested in cort, but that would contradict taylors desire for 'another type' of striker'.

It was a nice try, I think we should move on and try and get someone in who is affordable and prepared to play in this league. It looks like being Carl Cort, not overly excited by that, but we'll see.

I really hope not as we now have Scowcroft and dont really need another target man type player. I am also DEAD against paying £1.5m for a player who has a very bad injury track record.
