Ward, his defending is second to none and he is absolutely solid. When you consider the current crop of English Right back's he has a great chance of making the world cup squad if Roy takes notice. His attacking is no worse than Gary Neville's, I genuinely believe he can have a similar career to Leighton Baines.

Ward for me, a more rounded player and improvement to come especially when he settles into the way the prem is played

We have been so lucky to go Butterfield, Boyce, Butterfield again, Clyne and now Ward. I know Butterfield wasn't really in the same class as those 3 but he was still a great servant to the club and certainly had the best delivery out of those 4. |

Agree with the first sentence (well, or Jedinak) but the second sentence is rubbish. He's done really well at Southampton.

I see Clyne has made only 1 league appearance so far this season. Falling out of favour?

Obviously I haven't seen much of Clyne since his been at Southampton so can only judge Clyne for his time with us and I'd place Ward over Clyne. For all his strengths his big weakness was positioning by getting caught under the ball and being turned round, then having to work extra hard to get back. He may have worked on this but for me it was a weakness in his game.

Ward simply oozes quality and it's very obvious that he'll be wearing an England shirt very soon.
Now all England needs is another 10-15 players of his quality in order to make a team. |

Ward is much much better. Obviously his defending is much better but Ward is far better at linking up with players going forward. Great little passes going on all the time, Clyne relied on his pace far too much

The cross for the Sunderland goal came from Wards side. If that was Moxeys side there would have been a thread on how sh*t Moxey is and how he can't defend.
Not saying that it was Wards fault as I think he is absolute class and in no way could have stopped what I thought was an excellent Sunderland goal. Just mad how different players who play for Palace get praised and abused |

Ward is a superb player, a joy to watch. Hopefully he'll be with us for a long time. While Clyne is great, it's got to be Joel for me.

He isn't really close to Johnson yet. A very underrated performer for England in our recent years. Ward has been good so far but he's only played 3 prem games so at the moment clyne is better. Ward looks capable of being at least as good though.

Ward is improving and for the balance of our team is more useful than Clyne as Ward is better going forward. Defensively though, Clyne is better due to his pace.

It's a tough one but I'd rather have Ward in my team for his defensive and aerial prowess. Clyne does offer a little more going forward at the moment though.
In the end, I think Ward will be the better player, and there's no doubting he's one of the best buys I've ever seen from the club. I don't think anyone honestly thought we'd find such a good replacement for Clyne so quickly and for so little money. |
