Most full backs these days can't defend. Lucky for them managers don't seem to mind this.
Glen Johnson springs to mind. God awful defensively yet has still commanded ridiculous transfer fees. Compare him to someone like Clyne who can defend yet bigger clubs don't seem interested. |

We cant keep a player who is, rightly, behind Ward, Mariappa, and Kelly for the RB berth based on some good (attacking wise) games in the Championship because he might be worth £5-£10m in a few years time.

I didn't say we should

Indeed, if we did attempt to do the above, he would never have the chance to reach such a transfer fee, as he'd never play any games.

Glen Johnson defeats that argument.

Hunt is better than Mariappa.

So you think GJ is good at defending? Either that or you have forgotten the amount of money spent on him.

Whilst I think GJ has limitations, I think comparing him to Jack Hunt is disrespectful. It's not that I particularly care about Johnson, but, comparing the quality of player and subsequent value to Jack Hunt is just stupid.

No I don't think he's worth 5-10m, we would be lucky to get our money back.

I have not seen much of Jack but he was fabulous for Huddersfield before moving to us. A seriously unlucky injury and then the quality of Ward and Mariappa last season understandably set him back. The chance to have a good long loan period at a decent club like Forest will do him the world of good and will allow the people that understand these things to make a judgement call on what happens next. I wish him the very best.

I dont think it is stupid at all. Billyd (whose opinions on players I normally respect), suggested that full backs who arent that good at defending dont attract high prices. Johnson has never been rated for his defensive capabilities but always good at attacking, yet he has been transferred for fees £6m, £4m and £17m. I would say that shows full backs who are good at attacking but not defending can attract substantial transfer fees. There are plenty more examples.

Kyle Walker, Cresswell etc disprove that statement. And Hunt is only 23. His defending will improve given the right coaching.

He has a four year contract with Palace so he is not likely to be going anywhere unless Palace want to sell him.

Got injured at Millwall yesterday and only played one half, not sure what the injury is?

Think its stupid to sell in January. Real possibility of Palace being in the Championship next season with Ward leaving. Hunt is getting good reviews so far for Forest so would make sense to keep him at the moment

From Forest website;
Jack Hunt was substituted towards the end of the first half and Matty Fryatt, Andy Reid and Jack Hobbs all missed the trip down south. But Pearce hopes all three will be available for selection again soon. He said: "From what we can gather, Hunt may have got a kick to a nerve. If that is the case it's all well and good, but we won't rush him back. He has to be right because he's a big player for us."
