He's always poor after international break... give him a few games and he'll be back to been a beast.

Have to agree. Doyle was pretty decent, probably suits us in our formation tbf.

A poor game for him - exacerbated by the shape today which exposed him. Nothing stuck up front and there were few simple options on so we reverted to long balls up to a short front line. The loss of Chamakh was stark. I can only presume Ledley was not 100%.

Ive been shouting all summer about us needing to spend money on a pacey target man, we havent but Doyle maybe our best bet. Hoping AJ might still have some magic but that might be wishfull thinking. |

It's a good point about the formation exposing Jedinak. If Jedinak needs Ledley, where does McArthur fit in? I can't see Warnock dropping his number 10.

Jedi had a bad game sure. Unravel us further at your peril.

Normally an inspirational leader (all last season). Had a mare today but he has bounced back from far worse and will do so again.

I felt for Jedi today. His game isn`t suited to a 4-4-2. His only duty should be breaking up play infront of the back four and winning arial challenges.
I`d be tempted to play him in the away games (in a central 3) when we`ll be backs to the wall and give the McArthur/Ledley combination a shot at home. That way everyone should get game time, rest and competition for places. |

Totally agree as soon as he came on we actually were linking play together. Jedi has always been poor with distribution that is why you need a passer along side him. Ledley helps Jedi as Ledley is a cultured player but so is Mcarthur from what I saw. Interesting to actually have options.

I don think it is weaker? Cam jam and Murray are our only losses in offseason and Doyle sounded useful. Midfield is stronger we've also added at tha back

The former likes to stay deep, McArthur looks like he's used to pressing high up Problem is, when one presses and the other doesn't you end up with both players being isolated making it easy to play the ball around them. Burnley didn't have the quality to take advantage of this but better sides will. It's a worry and I can easily see McArthur spending much of the season on the bench. |

Suits our long ball game but still isn't good enough for the PL

We didn't need him today.
In the rare games where we should win possession we don't need him in the side as there is much less breaking up to be done. His passing is so bad that a lot of moves break down with him. Last edited by Friskey; 13-09-2014 at 07:00 PM. |

No, not even close to dropping him yet. Although i suppose the ledley and mcarthur combination does actually make it feasible to do so. If he has too many games like today.

He was like this last September awful passes at Saints and Man Ure. Hope he gets over it like last season.

Tbh he was so immense last season that I think he deserves better than to be dropped at the first sign of a bad game
Happy that we have both McArthur and Ledley that could run side by side if needed now though |
