1.5m was a steal for what he offered to the team, our choice of strikers now are way behind where we were in May.

His touch and finishing aside (apart from his superb finish at Goodison) I liked Jerome last season and was disappointed we didn't re-sign him.
I strongly disagree with those that say we miss KG. |

Jerome was pivotal to our success last year.... pace , strength & hard work ... 3 things missing from our front line yesterday. |

Pulis may of thought he'd be able to bring in an a good centre forward to replace Jerome? This did not and has not happened since he left either. Jerome ideally needed upgrading but we now find ourselves missing him.

Not bothering with a proper target man when you finished 11th with one is obviously shocking." Oh look we've AJ and Doyle" is an insult to the vast majority of Palace fans' intelligence. We were as clueless last term with the CB cover we went in with and got incredibly lucky with injuries. The current situation reminds me of AJ's last season when Dowie didn't bother to get a target man for him despite having seen us rip it up with Shipps in tandem, last time in the league. Wasted him and didn't go up. What a surprise.

I think your right...for me Jerome at £1M would be a handy permanent replacement for Wibs, and either FFS or Cam Jam would be an ideal foil for Gayle, yet in all the discussions over potential transfers this summer aside from Conor Wickham, centre forwards did not figure that prominently

Said this the entire window.
A target-man, in a similar mould to Jerome though ideally with a greater goal-threat, should have been our top priority after a LB.

Speaking of big strikers, Jutkiewicz looked decent for them yesterday.

Always said I would have liked to keep Jerome if we stayed up but in truth we missed Chamakh yesterday far more.

Agree with this, Chamakh is a massive player for us. Gayle and Campbell were isolated yesterday, and if Campbell was playing the link role, it did not work. Whoever is playing up front must close down the opposition constantly as a minimum requirement. I would take a goal scorer above Jerome's other attributes.

Only let go (or not sign) if you have better. Murray, Cam Jam and Jonny Parr, KG and arguably Danny Gabbidon would all improve our current squad ahead of people that are in it. Murray - Doyle, Cam Jam - AJ, Parr - McCarthy, KG - Guediora, Gabbidon - Hangeland.

Can't believe anyone's shocked about the fact we're missing him. One of our most important players last season.

Too much is made of his poor scoring record. He was a massive part of why we stayed up and he single handedly kept a whole back 4 on their toes. Times last season where I was curious why a team would keep 4 back marking CJ when we played 1 up. The truth is he'd work a whole back 4 and gave us the opportunity to counter and fill the space between their back 4 and midfield.
I've said before unless we could find an upgrade on CJ we should've signed him. Problem is any upgrade on CJ ie someone like him but scores goals would probably cost you £30m+. We've no one anywhere near who can do the job he done I'm afraid.

Jerome was an effective foil , pacey workhorse, physical presence , added extra height in defence and top at defending from the front . Was folly not to sign him

For the doubters, Everton and West Ham away were pretty convincing proof of his value to us.

Don't forget too that Cardiff at home was a massive result for us. He was superb that day.

It's not that we are missing Jerome, it's that we didn't replace him with sufficient quality. It's early days.

I would have Kevin Phillips even now on the bench rather than campbell or AJ thats how poor our striker dealings have been. Don't invest in your strikers go down I reckon
