Tremendous win, the happiest I have been with a victory since the Chelsea home game last season. We can play a lot better though. I am a big fan of the Warnock appointment, but I felt he got his tactics all wrong, especially the subs that were far too late, and he should have kept some pacy options on, and brought on Zaha. I also thought we were naive at corners by not picking up the short corners, and looked susceptible as soon as they tried to pass it in and around the edge of the penalty area.
Having said that, brilliant team spirit. Winning the penalty just shows that no matter how much you are being outplayed - and I have not seen such a one-sided opening 20 mins to a Palace game for ages - if you are only 1-0 down you still have a chance of coming back into it. The penalty was out of nothing, the 2nd goal looked a little lucky as it came off the top of Campbell's head, he didn't know where the ball had gone, and the keeper should have done better; however, the 3rd goal was a decent move - excellent set-up play by Punch and a super finish from Bolasie. So pleased for him. Speroni 7 collected balls when he could have stayed on his line. the odd good save. His experience was vital. Ward 6 defended stoutly. Delaney 6.5 I know some will blame him for the 1st, but where was Dann? (There was no defender between Kelly and Delaney.) Other than that, not really troubled Dann 5.5 I felt he was slightly at fault for the 1st goal, and gave away the pen for their 2nd. Shame because other than that he was fine and had some good moments Kelly 7 Rock solid Jedinak 8 Great to see him back to his best. Won free kicks, headers and led the team magnificently. Without him on the pitch we would not have won. Looked sharper, and as for his penalty, all i can say is massive balls. To put it into the top corner at such a pivotal moment was huge. Surprised Punch wasn't on pen duty though Mcarthur 6.5 did well to win the penalty. Fairly tidy. He's obviously a good player and has decent energy, but I think there's more to come - he doesn't look totally fit yet. Ledley 7 covered every blade of grass and some important interceptions. Great to have him back. Bolasie 8 MOM After the first 25 mins he tore Stones to pieces with pace and skill. Unlucky to hit the bar, but a sublime finish that wouldn't have looked out of place if Aguero or Rooney had scored it. So pleased for him. He's a very talented boy, and it's great to see him back to his best Puncheon 7 Great work for the team, and superb assist for the Bolasie goal. Feel Zaha will eventually take his place, but it's great for the team to have competition for places. Campbell 5 I thought the goal was fortuitous, and he didn't offer anything up top - not enough pace or strength and didn't look sharp or have the ability to hold the ball up. Doyle looked better. Subs: Guedioura 5 should have buried his chance but did well to fashion it Fryers 6 Looked quick. Looking forward to seeing more of him. Doyle 6 Held the ball up well and looked bright and a handful. Warnock 6 I know we won, but I think his tactics could have been better. And I am a fan of the appointment before anyone labels me as an anti. So pleased to get a win. I hope we put in a display to win against Leicester. Won't be easy, but we can do it. I assume competition for places just got tastier. There will be those who play against Newcastle with a real point to prove, Zaha included I assume now. EDIT: I have bumped Warnock's score up from 5 to 6 because on reflection the subs all had an impact, and helped us get the win, especially Doyle. But the subs were too late imho, we didn't have enough pace on the counter when Bolasie went off, Campbell is our least effective forward despite the goal and should not have started, and I felt we switched off at corners. There's room for improvement

To be fair, I was always confident he would turn us around - if you read my posts you will know I have not once slated the Warnock appointment. I don't actually like the guy, but I respect his quality and passion as a manager. There's more to come though. Zaha and Gayle will contribute before the season is up.

Bolasie was rampant this afternoon. Great performance from him.
Please Palace, don't start so deep. We are better than that. |

The most heartening feature for me was that we looked like we played last season. Far stronger defensively and quick, dangerous counter attacking. We have to be honest and say the game vs West Ham was awful but this was us back to our best. I think Ledley coming back was very important. Jedi suddenly felt comfortable and played so much better and the whole thing came together.
Hopefully this will also make Warnock comfortable with this style of play because I think it is certainly our best style in this stage of our evolution in the Premier League. Pip pip. |

Warnock got it wrong? We won... He got it spot on. Not many teams go there and win. Give the man credit.

Kelly will have enjoyed that.
A very ungracious Martinez (as per) Nearly as bad as that miserable, 'entitled' one at Citeh. |

I can't help but think after playing terribly and conceding early the players thought 'feck it, the pressure's off, let's play a bit' and we grew in to it more and more. I do hope this brings some belief back. Could be as important as the 3 points.

Heading home and just got past Crewe.
Don't write us off. A couple of guys in front of us acted liked right c*nts shouting for Warnock's resignation. When we play in the way we did, we can give anyone a good game. 10/10 for everyone. |

Bolasie man of the match, great penalty by Jedinak, loved Puncheon's determination for the 3rd, and pleased to see Campbell on the scoresheet.

Won't do all the ratings stuff, but a few observations:
Bolasie was different gravy today. Subs were too late yet not the wrong ones given the result - I wanted to see Zaha come on to force them to keep an extra man back when attacking in the last 30mins or so, though Adlene should have buried that chance, but he sure did well to make it Doyle did literally everything right when he came on Despite the goal, I wasn't overwhelmed with Campbell - did he catch Howard in the face as he jumped? I am not sure if I'm just being harsh, because I'd rather see Gayle up top Two pretty soft penalties in my book, and I was sure we had a pretty decent shout for a handball in the box as well (though, probably wrong) Great result. |
