Bright's comments hardly reflect well on Paddy.
Maybe we should nick Bolton's U18s coach.
Dougie may know him of course.

Some context:
Siddik (Fellani lookalike) has barely played before at U18 level. He's played, at most, a handful of games. At U16 level, he's been decent. It takes most lads half a season to adjust to the step up from 16s to 18s. Taking that into account, I thought he did ok last night. He's probably only played 1 previous match in front of that keeper, so the misunderstanding between them for the 3rd goal is not too surprising.
Bolton seemed more tactically disciplined and maintained their team shape better. But Palace had more lads who tried to play off of the cuff and take people on (Aveiro, Pierrick, Donkin, Addy).
Coaching U18s is a balancing act between trying to teach the tactical, team shape, game mgt suff while trying not to stifle the flair/individuality.
Sometimes to maintain and build on that flair you have to lose a few battles in order to win the war.
The most successful Palace U18 side that I've ever seen in terms of league results was ultra strong on shape, physicality, discipline, desire, fitness but low on individual skills so nobody came thru to be a regular 1st team player. This was at a time when our U18s regularly played the big clubs U18s. I think they conceded the least goals at U18 level in the country that season. And of the back 4, Jack Holland plays for Bromley now. Jerry Nnamani spent a lot of seasons at Leatherhead after leaving us. Matt Parsons played a few 1st team games but seems to have drifted out of the game following injury troubles. And RB Kieron Kenlock was released after U18s season and went to Loughborough uni to study.
Saying all that, yes it was disappointing last night. But a crowd of almost 1k was entertained well. The game was very much in the balance at 2 all until the comedy own goal knocked the stuffing out of Palace. To their credit, they kept going until the very end and almost scored in added time.

Gazza, it was clear that we had a more talented set of players than Bolton. This is a pretty important competition, and the lads would surely have benefitted from going further in the youth cup. Surely they could have been prepared and organised competently so that they could do themselves justice - they must have had weeks to prepare. It was a mess.

Gazza my sasdness was that heads seemed to drop and composure lost after the third. Bolton looked a bit more cohesive and in the no 11 for me the best player on the pitch. The 8 was also decent.
Btw Is Ty Brown a year too old. Full back was an area we struggled in. I liked Siddiq. Physically he could become quite imposing. I enjoyed the game but sadly the better team probably won

I turned to my mate as soon as comedy 3rd went in and said that that was killer blow that young lads won't have maturity to come back from. 4th for Bolton soon came. But I was heartened by how they pressed in the 5 mins added time and fashioned 2 near misses rather than just give up.
True, we looked far less well organised than Bolton.
For a combination of reasons that include form, injuries, lads playing for U16s or U23s, only 3 of our 11 starters had played the majority of games this season in our U18s in the positions that they started on Friday.
Onoabhagbe, Chamberlin-Gayle and M.Boateng.
GK has spent most of season on bench.
RB has not played in defence all season.
CB has been playing mostly in U16s.
D.Boateng has spent time in u23s and at RB.
Donkin has been on bench or on intl duty a lot.
Addy has been with U23s a lot.
Aveiro usually plays more centrally.
Street had a spell out injured and has been in u23s some weeks.

Bolton's stand-out player Connell started for their first team in the FA Cup tonight.
