Ouch, and limited money in the pot for players - that'll be rolled out in January. And we can all ask SP how much he paid FdB in comp.

6 million gets you a back up striker if you do your close season transfer business properly.

Love this line from Southgate Eagle:

'I've watched this club do better than its football deserved for forty years'

Indeed - in all that time we don't seem to have players that can pass or put a decent corner in. Are all clubs like this?

Look at the facts, from a business management point of view - FdB FAILED major KPIs and in another job you would be punished severely for this. I run a store, if I failed to fill my store with staff (a backup striker) then I went off sick (Benteke injured/suspended) then what sort of piss poor 'management' is that.
you think managing a professional football club is the same as running a shop then ? Marvellous comparison there mate .. Who's on your tills Messi ?

It's 2 mill the comp.
We have wasted lots though either paying off a manager n coaching staff or buying poor players because there's no scouting infrastructure.

We have a director of football who is an ex-player and manager.

We have a manager who is an ex-player (of sorts) from Croydon.

We have an assistant manager who is an ex-coach and assistant manager.

We have a captain who is from croydon and one of our own.

We have the Parishs advisor who is an ex-player.

We tried a manager who wasn't an ex-player and not from Croydon and he only lasted 77 days. Nothings changed.

Still CPFC is my club come what may. Perhaps better times lie ahead. I do hope so but still feel a bit sad at what we have become today.
DeBoer's lawyers are negotiating with the club for an expected 2 mil pay off. Even that's too much after he failed at every hurdle. Surely a contract is based on what you alleged you could could do when interviewed and it wouldn't surprise me if Steve Parish doesn't take that to court.

And there lies a serious problem. The best man for the job is the best man for the job regardless of where he's come from, where he's been. Croydon isn't that greater place.

Roy is one of our own too I think he'll bring to Palace what SSC did a bit of dignity.

What a great post! You've just expressed my thoughts so much better than I could have. It must be that our vintage brings a clearer and more measured perspective.....or we've been battered into submission :-l

Please go and read my post on page 2 of this thread and see we are 100% in agreement. These are fun great times in comparison to the disaster that was the early Noades days

Instead, we will scrape by playing mostly shitty football and praying for Wilf to 'please do something' so we can score.

We stamped on the egg just as it was about to hatch. What a cowardly club of half-measures we are. I've watched this club do better than its football deserved for forty years and am sick to the back teeth of seeing us unwilling to take the evolutionary steps to become the superclub that every metric indicates us to have the potential to be. And f*ck off any Neanderthal who tells me I should go support someone else.

But such is the desire for instance gratification and the lack of backbone for the long haul, and the panic about the EPL millions (that is just wasted on players and agents anyway) that we bottled it.

So actually the old Palace will reign supreme, always fighting relegation when we're in the Premier League, and never amounting to much really. I don't expect to ever see us lift a trophy (a proper one that is). We are too good for the championship, but not good enough for the Premiership.
The reality is unless we are one of the super rich clubs we will always have the possibility of relegation.

There isn't some magical playing style that will gurantee we will finish 10th or higher every year. For example Bournemouth play passing possession football but could still get relegated.

The object of the game is to win. If passing the ball backwards and sideways and keeping possession works then great. If a more direct style works then great. The point is this, the right playing style is the one that works.

We've struggled in the past because of having a poor manager, and poor players, nothing to do with the playing style. If Pulis or Allardyce had been manager for the last 4 years we would have been nowhere near relegation.

I think that could be said about a lot of clubs now..

The tv money in the premier league and the foreign ownership has changed the face of football and it will keep changing.

Sky will eventually lose the rights to a netflix style platform where you will buy games on demand - that includes saturday 3pm.

The money will keep getting bigger and bigger and the identity will be lost forever.

So which is it?

Are we a corporate behemoth that sold its soul and has been ruined by international money?
OR
A tin-pot, family-run, parish-pump operation who can only employ people from Croydon and is a local club for local people?

We need to get our story straight here folks.

The club feels very plastic at the moment and the board have to take the blame.

Give me the days of misspellings on shirts and 5 year plans over this new breed of Palace anyday.

Going to watch some 1990 clips to remind me why I first loved the club.
Almost spot on. The club is now almost soulless, almost.

We decide not the EU
@GuyVerhofstadt.@EmmanuelMacron spoke about an open door for the UK. I agree. But it will be a brand new door, to a new united Europe with real powers. Very ominous.
