Brighton being classy again.
It's good that their squad actually understand the rivalry at least. Even had Sam Baldock on the train singing 'Crystal Palace we're coming for you'. If we stay up, who in our ranks would know the deep hatred and rivalry we have with Brighton? With Zaha off, Delaney and Speroni approaching retirement, the only player left who would have even played against them is Joel Ward. I always worry that the players who have only been here a few years will see the fixtures against Brighton next season (once again, if we stay up) as just another game. Need the HF down the training ground the day before the game to drill into them how big this will be.

Was at the game in 1974. We had around half the ground. Great time half of Croydon seemed to turn up. There was a conga by the beach that went on for 100 feet before the match. I believe our support really pissed them off. Wish I was 40 years younger again . Great times

Let's be honest, even though they need the rivalry more than we do to define themselves and make themselves a bit more interesting, it will be the first fixture most of us look for.

I remember the away games in 74/75 and 75/76 and even then there were smoke bombs and "stuff". From the supporters perspective, the managerial rivalries never came into it (or not that I heard). Of course, Mullery throwing his money on the floor after the Stamford Bridge game added to the fun.

That's how I remember it.
I vividly recall that wet night at stamford bridge and am positive the "hatred" not "rivalry" was well rooted prior to that encounter

To be honest I always presumed it was a craic to take a train trip to the coast and go large nothing to do with the faggots at the destination

Hardly played them TBF. I was It was 1987 when I first went to Palace with my son to watch them play and beat Notts Forest in the Cup, so 30 years ago rather than 35. Went regularly from the following season.
So all the history with Mullery and Venables passed me by. It was only really Millwall that were rivals.

Yes but their hate must be based on stories they have been told. We haven't played them enough for anyone who started going 1989 onwards to develop genuine hate.

I'm 34 and seen genuinely horrible scenes involving Millwall, including 5 Millwall 'fans' kicking lumps out of a young Palace fan on Holmesdale Road in front of stewards who did nothing..... Also Palace fans closed in from leaving Holmesdale Road by Police vans for 'our own safety' while Millwall smashed up our seats. Never seen anything like that involving Brighton.

On their last visit Brighton yobs pelted Palace fans and the public with bottles and other missiles as they were already at Norwood Junction after the police had diverted Palace fans from their usual route to the station.

It will be far better to keep the Brighton fans in the ground after the match to prevent this happening again.

Not sure of most of the non entities who play for Brighton, but I doubt they have many who have played against us either.

Not to mention Sam Baldock, who must surely be aware that the only people he'll be coming for in the PL are the ones paying him for sex.

Could depend where you live as well.

If you lived in the north of Croydon, Bromley or the south of Lambeth or Southwark you'd mix with a lot more Millwall fans which only intensifies hatred for them.

Spot on.

I've lived amongst both types (Brighton and Millwall) dislike them both of course. The difference being for me is Millwall supporters are genuinely more down to earth and realistic whereas the Sussex snobs have this holier than thou attitude and generally think they're better than what they are. And for that reason I hate Brighton a great deal more.

Yep. I'm surrounded by the plastics. So many have 2nd teams it's truly staggering. I played 5 aside last night and a player saw my palace top, he said "we're coming for you" I looked at him, he had Liverpool shorts on... I said " you can have the 3 points, if you sell us Sakho"... he replied "oh, I meant Brighton... next season"
He supports two teams that will be in the same division next year... what a ******* moron.
