thats how I grew up too after the countless stories from my dad telling me what ***** they are however the sheer arrogance & entitlement the tesco bags have means I love when we completely **** up their day.

We get to do it twice next season in front of a global stage before they retreat back to the lower leagues where they belong

Maybe they can get Will Buckley back from tinpot Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday. He's better than Wilfried apparently

I'm 30 so for me the Brighton things isn't of my era.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the games, atmosphere and was at the first game at the AMEX - but I went to school and grew up in Beckenham, where you had either Palace or Millwall fans (or ManU, but they weren't really fans for you'd ignore them) so for me, I hate Millwall

It was only 4 years ago we played them in, at the time, the biggest game of our season yet next season would be the first time you see us play them?!

OP only heard of us when we got promoted. The championship gets little coverage in America.

I was at the goldstone in 1974. Opening match of the season. Old 3rd Division. Palace in their end. I was 14 at the time and made a small fortune picking up all the 50 pieces being thrown around.

Personally I can't wait for Brighton to be promoted !! a guaranteed 6 points and I get a smashing seat in one of the Boxes at Falmer courtesy of my Brighton supporting mates who I can wind up weeks prior and after the event.
Although I was a bit miffed on Friday when a Brighton shirt and scarf went up behind the bar of David Lloyds gym in the Marina.
I am hatching a plan to put a CPFC pennant up over it but the bar is covered by CCTV so I might have to get the old fishing Balaclava out for a pre opening raid.

My first ever away game with my mate's dad at the age of about 11 was Brighton on Boxing Day either 1979 or 80. I saw incidents like I had never seen before in my life at that time. It was scary yet very exciting at the same time.
My first ever away game on my own with mates was Brighton aged 16 ish on a Bank Holiday Monday a few years later and there was a welcoming party the minute we came out of the station. These two reasons alone are enough of an explanation for why the Brighton rivalry is very real and the only club I truly hate.

Millwall have particularly scummy fans but I don't really care for them as a club. I never really got the Charlton thing and actually quite liked them under Curbishley.

I'm looking forward to playing Brighton if we stay up - should be a good atmosphere and will help explain our obscure rivalry to other fans.

I agree, I accept that they are our main rivals, but we have far closer clubs to form such a relationship, and to me personally Brighton matter not a jot, in the same way Carlisle mean nothing to me.

I also date back and was in the Goldstone Ground in '70s with the accompanying trouble that saw me standing in the ground with police and their dogs in amongst us while the game was played.

I remember a couple of Palace fans running from one of the stands towards the Brighton fans behind the goal, only to be lifted but instead of being chucked out, escorted to the Palace end. I only recently found out that one of those chaps is a very good mate now, and very occasional contributor on the BBS.

But even having seen trouble back in the day, I just wish they were seen as some club on the South coast than our main rivals, which helps to give them an identity they do not deserve

I got my band to play Glad All Over at my sisters 40th birthday party in the heart of Brighton where she lives.
Still one of my proudest moments, especially as my 9 year old son came up on stage and sang it with me!

The fact that the Brighton and Palace "rivalry" only started in 1976 explains why many older fans like myself will always regard Millwall as our true rivals. As a schoolboy I used to go to Millwall v Palace in the 1970s and always went in the home end as it was the safest place to be.

I am pleased to see Brighton will be joining us in the Premier League and look forward to taking six points off them next season.
