It does smack of political opportunism by the Tories. UKIP are finished with their current leader and the Out vote already at the referendum, the Lib Dems will stand for staying in the EU but that will only get them seats in Labour areas like London and the other big cities. The SNP will take most of the seats they currently have if not all of them. Labour could get wiped out though.

You've just outlined the reasons why it's a snap election.

Once again the Tories interests are being prioritised over those of the country.

Reckon I'll vote Lib Dem if they promise to hold another referendum.

Could that lead to another coalition I wonder......

Probably the correct thing to do despite promising they wouldn't.

For the first time in 30 years I'm not sure who to vote for. It won't be the Tories or UKIP.

My vote will not make a jot of difference however.

Didn't see that coming.

May previously made it abundantly clear on more than one occasion that there was going to be no election until 2020 and I actually thought she meant it. More fool me.

I can utterly understand why she would want an election though. Labour are fecked, the UKIP leak has been fixed and most of all she needs more backbenchers to marginalise the nutjobs in her own party.

Think they are more stuck than the Labour party.

We may very well be past the point of no referendum, where there is no going back anymore.

Personally I think they'd be far better off campaigining based on post EU policies they would push through.

Campaign based solely on no referendum, and if the conservatives win, watch them get completely sidelined from any negotiations. "You made you point clearly that you never wanted this anyway so why should you get to play a role in dediciding the terms".

we'll see. But saying no single market will cost them votes, and UKIP turned out to be no threat when there was something at stake, they're even less of a threat now.

She doesn't need to say no single market to win easily, so why would she?
