As for Bournemouth, crowds of 11k don't generate that much less revenue than 25k, nothing that finishing a few places higher in the league than us won't solve. They can still spend up to the 67m limit on wages and amortised transfer fees without restriction.
bournemouth has many more suites so the ticket revenue is probably closer than you think

We don't know if they're breaking the Short-Term Cost Control rules though, or what the punishments for doing that might be. If it's just a fine, then it'll be like the luxury tax in baseball - for every 1 you overspend you pay a 1 fine.

The FFP rules only apply to Palace, and only when Parish needs an excuse for not buying players.

As QPR have proved, FFP rules can be negated by a good lawyer.

I'm only asking as I am a financial dullard.
We have been here before, and I am just commenting on the 'wage cap'.

The problem is, as far as I am aware, there have been no published numbers which breakdown as to whether we or any club is under or above the cap. I presume we have not been above the cap as there has been no mention of any club being sanctioned so far.

SP has said in the past that we are near / restricted by the cap. To suggest that we can ignore the rules is ridiculous but there have been several examples of clubs that have seemingly broken rules relating to overall losses where any final judgement seems to have disappeared into the ether.

The bonus for us this year is that we sold a couple of players for large profits which will offset a large increase in our wages.

Because crowds and gate money are pretty inconsequential for 50% of clubs in The Prem.
Last season the TV money was 86% of Bournemouth income. It was 77% of Palace income.
Palace take about 11m in gate money. It's peanuts compared to TV income.

Bournemouth wage bill last season was 68% of their income. Palace was 79%.
So we were worse than them on this ratio.

Only Swansea and Villa spent a higher % of their income on wages than Palace last season.

On commercial income last season (income other than TV and Gate money) Palace earned 12m. Bournemouth 7m.

Sorry had to amend my original reply!

2014/15 wages were 65% of turnover so a downward spiral.

True. Look at effect of ITV Digital collapse leaving a lot of Football League clubs trying to pay player contracts signed when the clubs assumed they would be getting the ITV Digital cash.
Sky viewing figures down for live games for lots of reasons but one of major ones is people watching for free via streams. More people who cancel their subscriptions and watch for free, the closer we get to the financial abyss.

Teams like Bournemouth will carry on breaching the FPP rules as they stand.
7.6m fine is nothing given the cash awash in the Premiership as well as where they have finished this season.
Every club might as well ignore the FPP rules!

Andy - I thought that you did am explanation for the layman once - or was I dreaming?

There is one thing that sticks in my mind that I am not sure I have right.

It's that the profit from player sales is realised at the point of sale and boosts the amount you can spend 1 for 1 (not sure that's a good explanation but....)
is that correct and if so - does it increase the wages we can pay, or the transfer fees we can pay? And which is FPP and which is STCC

Hmm I don't think I explained that well - sorry.

Short Term Cost Control is part of Financial Fair Play. Any profit after amortisation on player sales allows us to increase our wage bill above the STCC cap 1 for 1. The sale of Bolasie would have been a big plus for us.

Here is an easy to follow animation on STCC:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Financial Fair Play relates to the maximum permitted losses a club can occur over 3 seasons. The max is 105m or 15m if the owners do not inject more capital. Without a bit of research I can't remember whether that is before or after tax. As it stands in the last 3 years we are c19m in profit so FFP is not a problem.

As regards this summer's transfer fund we can in theory spend, spend, spend but then we have to be wary of the effect on the bottom line - spend say 60m on several players each with 4 year contracts and that means a 15m hit to our bottom line over each of the next 4 years. All doable but the club has to balance the two; FPP and STCC.
