Ignoring the comparisons above Will what confuses me is the time and energy you put into stripping away the EU level of government dominance. As a visible effect on our daily lives or a tax paid by us as individuals it was tiny and insignificant. Nothing in comparison to the effect the local councils or our government have.

As for the laws it imposed upon us - I cant really think of anything that stopped people going about their daily lives blissfully unaware of doctrine forced from the EU on them. (Copper apples aside)

If it was a vote to control our borders and put more checks on immigrants surely that is a wish for more government, more taxes, more laws and more control? This is the polar opposite of your beliefs? Stripping away borders for people capital and goods, 1 medical agency not 27, 1 banking agency not 27 is less government not more. In fact if we gave up national sovereignty and pooled it everything would be cheaper, more efficient and less bureaucracy? As an example how many civil servants does the EU have managing the whole of Europe in comparison to the UK managing the UK?

I am trying to get my head around the link.

No matter. It was not exactly the main thrust of my point.

But I see you continue to ignore that, in favour of insults. What inferiority complex drives you so hard??

Intetresting articles today in the Irish Indy. Ireland has the fastest growth in the EU but is the only one with falling car sales. By all accounts there is a fair bit of inflation building in the system around health care fees and car and home insurance. There is also a housing crisis building with home ownership among the young falling, rents now an average of nearly $200 a week and rising numbers living in overcrowded housing. they are struggling to increase housebuilding to match rising population. The other week they mentioned that there was serious job creation in Dublin but unemployment wasn't falling as the numbers seeking work rose. I know it is frowned upon on the BBS to criticise the way the EU system is working but the 4 principles are causing serious distortions across the housing and labour markets. You would hope the EU would be looking at ways to make things work better for modestly paid families rather than just big business.

And Irish domestic policy has had no role in this?

Brexit latest: Retail sales volumes fall at fastest quarterly rate in seven years To view the link you have to Register or Login

Sales were down 1.4 per cent, the biggest decline since the first quarter of 2010 when they fell 2 per cent

"We should see these retail sales figures as the start of a period of much weaker consumer spending growth - which will act as a drag on the overall progress of the UK economy over this year and next," said Andrew Sentance, senior economic adviser at PwC.

"This is the clearest indication yet that the expected slowdown in the UK economy has begun, and we should expect to see this confirmed in other economic data over the next few months."

Only economic study showing benefits of Brexit debunked as 'doubly misleading'

Finding widely cited as evidence UK economy has little to lose from failing to agree a trade deal with the rest of the EU

The sole economic modelling exercise showing material benefits for the UK from Brexit has been debunked as “doubly misleading”, further demolishing the argument that for Britain “no deal would be better than a bad deal” when it comes to the EU.

Work by the “Economists for Brexit” group, led by Professor Patrick Minford of Cardiff Business School, before last year’s referendum suggested that if the UK left the EU without a trade deal and unilaterally dropped all tariff barriers on imports the country’s GDP could be boosted by 4 per cent relative to otherwise.

The finding, which contradicted all other studies which showed that Britain would be worse off due to leaving the EU, has been widely cited by hardline Brexiteers and even some business figures as evidence that the UK economy has little to lose if Britain fails to conclude a trade deal with the rest of the EU.

Yes from a tax perspective. They do seem to aggravate the booms and busts but as part of the Eurozone they have very little control. The Bundesbank told them that . As their mortgage system and economy is much like ours, twice in the last decade they have become seriously out of kilter with the wider ECB area. In 2005 when their money supply was around 30% they couldn't raise interest rates early enough as they were part of the euro. Then when
the ECB started pushing up rates in 2007-8 to curb oil price driven inflation the Irish housing market got slaughtered. Spain was in a similar position. It looks like the Irish cycle is well and truly on again.

As we suspected from May's cringing visit to Trump.
