It's going to be a bumper day for club shop sales tomorrow. Hope they've stocked up on Monopoly.

We're having a bad season, seems odd not to want to do whatever possible to maximise numbers at away games. The police will be blamed on this particular occasion but there seems to be much less interest recently in the whole loud and proud best support in the league thing. In the scheme of things it's coppers to run promotions to sell out away, and at c.£2m per finishing place up the table it might be short sighted.

There are some idiots on both sides of course, but in my experience of Brighton games home and away, it's the over the top policing that creates the tension

Don't think they've cottoned onto the fact that once we realise we are being treated like product we'll stop coming from nearby/miles away. They'll need us when the armchair money dries up.

As for this, well its plainly overkill.

Crap that is one hefty charge, still if some young lad in China can get to see Jordan Mutch on an illegal stream then that clearly is a potentially better revenue stream then you...hush it with the complaining fella

I know for a fact, er FACT, that there already existed an agreement between the 2 clubs regarding damage. Palace fans smashed up some Amex toilets, and Brighton did similar at Selhurst and also vandalised a few cars around the stadium.
both clubs wrote-off the stadium damage. As told to me by 'Big' Phil Alexander.
I wonder if a certain ex-policeman employed by Palace had anything to do with the ticketing allocation ?

The club can do no right at the moment

Maybe. But perhaps those who smashed up the toilets might like to take some of the blame.

Probably the true answer. The club seems to be penny pinching in every way at the moment. As a fan and customer I'm more interested in Palace supporters being able to see the team play than in the club taking decisions that save a few grand. Is anyone at the club interested in the supporters anymore?

I guess if everyone boycotts the beamback then it'll make the whole idea completely pointless from a Palace perspective.

As others have said, this is Brighton's Cup Final. We hate them but they have craved this fixture for decades (at the top level) so it's logical that they would want to make things difficult for us when we visit, they'll sell out the remaining tickets, no problem.

You can picture it though, we've probably thought we'll make money from the beamback as it's already on TV somewhere and we won't have to pay for that part. We'll get fans at Selhurst paying for food/drinks and for the return leg, we'll most likely have to pay for far less police and probably a no mans land for the block they would have taken up.

Great idea? Bullocks. The fans are already pissed off with the current state of affairs. Pissing about in the transfer and managerial market along with taking reduced allocations elsewhere may have been a warning but it's starting to feel like the fans really mean very little anymore.

And yes I'm talking as a fan who's been looking forward to this game for a long while being from Brighton and now I'll be highly unlikely to go.

Sadly I think the club officials have been told by the owners to become more commercial and to maximise the amount they raise per unit (spectator). So no, we don't count anymore.

Obviously, the closed shop of hardcore away fans are being hit by the reduced allocation. I understand that.

But for the rest of us....it's beamback time! I'm already planning my itinerary. I love a beamback; it's like sanctioned trespassing. A sort of 'right to roam' for football fans.

Then of course there's the new bumbatrom. I can't wait.

Am I being thick here or can someone point it out to me... where are the details in the link provided by the club tells me about this:

There will be a football special train after the game leaving Falmer Station, stopping at Three Bridges, East Croydon and Clapham Junction and Victoria.

I'd love to know if money or safety was the primary factor in this decision. My money's on money.

I think it's a great deal and I'd happily pay £5 to go, but it seems the club only care if you've paid for a ST or membership.

Really pissed me off. I'm just not a loyal enough customer obviously. Stuff like this only annoys fans and pushes the divide between the club and us even further IMO.

Just guessing but wonder if the options were 3k allocation comes with a bubble (and associated costs) or 2k and these minimal restrictions???
Sue Maisey and I act as supporter observers on the Croydon Council SAG meetings and the Brighton game has not been specifically discussed at any earlier meetings. There of course is a strong probability that the club and Police will have had a separate meeting which is not part of the specific SAG committee. The next scheduled meeting is due in early November with a further special meeting on the same day at Brighton to discuss arrangements but clearly it seems that the key decisions have already been made by the clubs.
The SAG is only an advisory body to Croydon Council and therefore does not vote on any of the issues involving safety or security which are discussed. It consists of members of the Croydon Council including Licensing, Building Regulations and Highways departments, all emergency services including St John medics, club officials including the Stadium Manager, Safety Officer and Crowd Doctor and a representative of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority which replaced the FLA. The ultimate decision related to the issue of any safety certificate and subsequent conditions is made by the Council Licensing Officer on behalf of the Council.

People may claim that there have been no problems at recent games but this was probably only due to the massive police presence. The fact that it is now an evening game means that it is quite likely some fans will gather in Brighton pubs during the afternoon and they can probably expect to be marshalled all the way to the ground which is 3 miles from the centre. Because of the idiots who caused problems in town before the play-off game and those who set off flares and loud explosions at Chelsea last season all of the more reasonable fans can expect rigorous body searches and severe restrictions on bags. The history of this fixture and similar games against Charlton suggest that not all fans of either club can be trusted to behave in a reasonable manner, however small a minority they may actually be. The restrictions imposed at future games will entirely depend on our behaviour at these fixtures. Problems at these games will almost certainly lead to stricter measures such as the previously discussed bubble system.

It was almost certain that whatever restrictions were applied at one ground would be replicated at the other. Obviously for operational reasons Police cannot divulge all aspects of their crowd control tactics but it is hoped that after the fiasco with the infamous wall a more open approach will cause less misunderstandings.

Edited paragraph to clarify
My current understanding is that initially the Police required extra-large sterile areas inside both grounds to avoid conflicts which means that CPFC will have to restrict Brighton to 2000 tickets due to our smaller capacity. Brighton may have allocated slightly more tickets but has subsequently given us only 2000 tickets as a reciprocal arrangement to also allow for a larger sterile area. These restrictions are the direct result of the previous history of these fixtures plus the problems which occurred at the previous Chelsea away and Charlton home games.

Supporters will probably be held back for at least 30 minutes until all home fans have dispersed and will be able to still use the seats and facilities in the ground. Brighton claim that they usually clear the area around the ground including park and ride queues within 50 minutes of the game ending. However they have yet to play another London club at home so the problems of more localised away support has not yet been tested as most Northern clubs will have a much larger number of coach travellers. Southampton this weekend will be the first local game to test their systems.

There are no local free parking options within about 2½miles as both the local Moulsecoomb and Coldean estates are now resident parking only and are monitored by stewards. There are 3 park and ride zones at Mill Lane, Brighton University and Brighton Racecourse but these are notorious for long delays.

Southern expect to run a special train back from Falmer which would probably travel via Lewes where it would need to reverse direction. This would probably depart after the service train which is at 22:13 so my guess at approximate timings would be departing Falmer about 22:25 with a stop at Gatwick about 23:20 and arrive at East Croydon at 23:40 and Victoria about midnight. The arrival times might be 20 minutes earlier if they can fit it in before the 22:40 from Lewes. There is no news yet about train arrangements before the game but rush hour schedules means that any special train down is unlikely. It is also unclear what ticket arrangements will be required for any special train and it may yet become free travel back.

Brighton offer free travel on trains and local buses to the ground between 16:15 and midnight within their travel zone which is bounded between Worthing and Eastbourne and Haywards Heath in the north on production of a valid match ticket. This even includes bus travel from Tunbridge Wells. The easier option is to take an Eastbourne train and change at Lewes which will avoid crowds at Brighton station.

I will post an updated version of travel information once full details have been confirmed.
