can I upgrade computer parts

Hi all, as the title says I have a HP computer about 5 years old and it struggles to play Total war games on steam (Rome II etc)
The graphics are awful and the map is half blanked out, it can cope with Rome Tw and Med TW but not much newer
As a computer ignoramus what should I do ?

Sounds like you’ll need s fairly decent graphics card at least. I might be mistaken, but you’d need to check if your motherboard has the availability to add a graphics card (I think this is called an expansion slot). You’d also need to know if the graphics card is compatible with the power supply and motherboard. I’m only a computer science student, so not 100% on this. Others may be able to help.

Most HP machines aren't overly upgradable but you might be lucky. Problem is at about 5 years old you're likely to find that even if you can install a new graphics card getting one up to date enough but also compatible with your PC might be a struggle. The CPU, ram might not be up to the job either. Do you know what the model is?
